Chapter 8

"Please turn in last night's homework assignment." Mr. Avila came around and took everyone's papers. "Okay, so for today you can work with the person sitting next to you on page 312-313 in your textbooks."
Honors math was pretty easy. At least for me and Travis. "What period do you have lunch?"
"I have it 4th period, you?"
"Same time, but I never see you there."
"I normally go to the music wing and listen to the choir."
"Well, why don't you sit with me today."
"Yeah, I will." Me and Travis finished our work early so we just sat and chatted some more.
"You know a lot about me but I don't a whole lot about you. Tell me about yourself."
"Well, I have two younger sisters, Kelly and Hannah."
"That's cute. Twins?"
"Yep. They're 12. You can meet them and my parents tonight."
"I'd love to."
"Have you two finished your work?" Mr. Avila came over to us.
"Yes."
"Can I see your papers?" Travis showed him what we did. "You two got every problem right. Nice job." Mr. Avila walked back to his desk.
I looked at the clock to see what time it was. There was a minute left of class.
The bell finally rang. Travis walked me to my next class. "Where are you headed to next?"
"I have study hall."
"I have gym. But I'll walk you to class." When I got there I was about to walk into class, but Travis was pulling me back. He pulled me into a hug.
"Travis, your squishing me."
"Haha, sorry. See you at lunch."
I waved to him and sat down. I could hear someone laughing obnoxiously. Ugh, it was Sherry Norred and her group.
"Was that you with Travis?" I really didn't want to have to deal with this.
"Uh, yeah." She laughed again.
"How did you manage to get him? I mean you're not even pretty." She's right.
"Unless Travis is into freaks like her." This time it was her friend Amy.
"I doubt it! He's probably just using her."
"That or trying to get into her pants." Michelle joined in too. The three of them were laughing hysterically now.
"But who would do Scarlette? No one likes her!" Don't cry.
"She should just jump off a bridge."That was it. I couldn't stand it anymore. I left to go to the bathroom.
I walked into the biggest stall. My eyes were flooded with tears. Should I do it? Travis won't have to know. I reached into my bag and pulled out the small blade. Slowly, I rolled my sleeve up, and put the blade to my arm. I pulled down creating a new cut to add to my collection.
That felt better. I washed up the blade and put band-aids on. No one has to know about that.
When I walked back in, they were still laughing. "Awww, did you go and cry?"
Dammit, I forgot to check my eyes. I sat back down without saying anything.
Just ignore it Scarlette. "Why don't you go find Travis to cheer you up!" Be strong. Don't say anything.
As soon as the bell rang I ran straight to english class. Finally, relief.
Aw, I forgot Sherry was in this class too. And she sits right behind be. I heard her say something. "Thought you could get out of it huh?" I sensed that she was smiling. This class was just as worst. Sherry kept pegging small crumpled papers at me. I looked down at my arm. I had to make sure Travis didn't see the new cut. I kept checking the clock. Fifteen minutes... ten minutes... five minutes... I was out of here. Travis met me out front of the cafeteria.
"So how were your classes?"
"Um, fine." Don't tell him anything. "How was yours?"
"Boring. Except for gym class." What is it with guys and gym class? "So, can I buy you something for lunch?" I opened my mouth to say something but Travis kept talking. "You can just get a water if you want."
I nodded my head yes. "I'll get a small salad." He wasn't pressuring me to eat. I liked that. After we bought food, we sat at an open table.
"Hey, hold on. There's something in your hair." He reached and pulled out one of the papers Sherry threw at me. Travis opened the paper. There was something written on it. "He doesn't deserve you. Who wrote this?"
"Uhhh Sherry did. She meant to throw it to Amy or Michelle. They were passing notes in class."
"Wow, she would." Thank god he bought it. I picked a few bites at my salad. Travis was watching me. "Sorry for staring."
"No, no it's fine." I smiled at him so he knew I wasn't mad or anything.
We talked for the rest of lunch and walked to our last two classes together.
Science and history went by fast. I was excited to see Travis when it was over.
I found him waiting by his car when I walked out of school. He looked quite happy.
