Alice in wonderland 2: like mother, like daughter part one (or introduction)

/Ten years after Alice’s adventure into wonderland..../

Alice stubbled up to Hamish Ascot’s front door holding a little girl’s hand. Alice banged her fist against the wood, using the small and only energy she had left to get his attention. Hamish opened the door and gasped, he hadn’t seen Alice since she had said no to his proposal ten years ago.

“Miss Kingsleigh?!?” he asked in shock. The light spilled out onto Alice, but my she had changed! Her cheeks were so pale; she made ghosts look like they were blushing, her brown eyes were dull and lifeless. Alice collapsed but Hamish caught her before she hit the ground. The little girl looked up at her mother with the same brown eyes her mother use to have and whispered “Momma?” Hamish looked down at the child and his jaw dropped.

“Quickly, come inside!” he said as he carried Alice inside. The little girl walked in and took pushed the hood off her head. Hamish carefully laid Alice on the lounge and propped her head up with a pillow. “Alice? What happened to you?” he asked the slowly dying woman.

Alice turned her head to Hamish and took in a deep breath. “Poison. Stayne did this to me Hamish, my entire family is dead. My husband....” a tear trickled down her cheek as she thought of the man she loved. “...Died protecting me and Lucy. I need you to look after her, protect her. Promise me!” she said with a dying voice. Hamish was in tears by this point and little Lucy just stared up at her mother, not knowing what was going on.

Hamish looked into Alice’s eyes and remembered why he had loved her in the first place. “I promise Alice.” He said confidently. Alice smiled and took her last breath. Lucy ran up to her mother screaming and crying, Hamish grabbed Lucy and held her gently in his arms. “I promise”
