Chapter 1
That Night
It was a dark and stormy night. Suddenly, a flash of lightning goes across the sky. Bella speeds up, wanting to get home as quickly as she can. For a few minutes, she keeps driving, every now and then hitting 100 miles per hour. All of a sudden, her front wheel hits a ditch in the road. Going too fast, the car goes off the road and starts rolling. Bella feels a shock of pain go up her spine and then..... darkness swallowed her.

Nicolas paces the floor. His sister should have been there by now. Bella was supposed to be here an hour ago, he thought. She's fine, he thought, arguing with himself. She's probably stuck in traffic. No surprise with this weather, he thought, looking out his window into the gray and black sky that was pouring rain down at an amazingly fast speed. Nicolas went into the kitchen and was putting on a pot of coffee when he heard a knock at the door. He walked over and opened it. There was Bella, soaking wet and shivering. "There you are!" he said, relieved and smiling. "I thought you might not show up!" His smile faded away when he saw the expression on her face. It looked like she was really worried about something. "What's wrong?" Nicolas asked, steering her towards the kitchen. "Nothing," Bella replied flatly and simply. Bella sits down at the table while Nicolas fixes her a cup of coffee. While he's trying to get her to tell him what's wrong, the phone rings. He walks over and answers it.
"Hello?" he says into the phone.
"Hello, this is Sheriff Thompson. Is this Nicolas Sheay?" a voice says on the other line.
"Yes, this is he." Nicolas replied carefully.
"Well, Mr. Sheay, I'm sorry to tell you this, but your sister, Bella Sheay, was in a car crash this evening. Apparently, she hit a ditch in the rpad while going too fast. She died instantly." Sheriff Thompson said, grief and exhaustion clear in his voice.
Nicolas couldn't speak for a few moments. After a moment, he said into the phone, "But, that's impossible, my sister is right here, sitting at my table!" he paused then continued, "About how long ago was the crash?"
Sheriff Thompson replied, in a careful tone, "About 45 minutes ago,"
Nicolas looked back at his kitchen table.
Bella was gone.
