It wasn't long before I found the rocks behind the new house. They were huge and towered over me like skyscrapers. I didnt think about climbing them untill my friend Archie told me to. Archie was my best friend. Back in Texas he was the only person that didnt make fun of me. I loved Archie. I loved his green eyes, tan skin, and sandy blonde hair. Even though he made me do stupid stuff that usually got me in troble he was still my bestfriend.
" Jump Mia jump!, yelled Archie from below.
" No Im scared! ", I yelled back.
" Come on Mia! It will be fun like your a diver! "
I looked down from my perch at the lake below. It's waters rippled gently against the rocks. The lake looked harmless but what if they were snakes or leaches? I shivered.
" Don't be such a baby Mia! Its jusst water." Archie yelled.
" Im not a baby!", I yelled, " I'll jump!"
I stood up on the tall bolders with my arms to the side. I probably looked like someone on top of a mountain. I looked back down and saw Archie standing there staring up at me with those green eyes. He smirked and gave me a thumbs up. I noded and turned arond torwards the lake. The wind blew tossing my black curls around and I nearly got blown over. I took a deep breath and took one step off the rock when my mom ran behind the house.
" Mia!! No!", yelled mom before I fell into the cold water.
The lake was deeper than i expected. There was no snakes or leaches just gross merky water and rocks. I remembered trying to grab on to one of the rocks to pull my self out of the water but couldn't. I was being sucked into the deep waters of the lake. I believe I blacked out after that for I didn't remember anything until I woke up on shore with a towal around me. I looked up and saw moms worried face.
" Momma?"
" Oh my god Mia your ok! What in the world made you do something as stupid as that?!"
" Archie made me do it!" I yelled pointing at Archie who was leaning against a tree.
I saw mom look at Archie and back at me frowning.
" Honey I thought we went over this Archie isn't real."
" What are you talking about?", I replied," He's standing right there."
"Honey Archie is just one of your voices. He's an imaginary friend."
" No!", I yelled jumping off my moms lap , " You just think Im crazy like everyone else!
" Mia! "
" Hello is anyone down there?", said a voice somewhere in the bushes.
Suddenly a old man with a white beard and a red jacket appeared.
" Do you ladies need any help? ", asked the old man, " Im Denis Edwards and this is my granddaughter Rosella.
I looked behind the old man and saw a girl about my age with short strait brown hair and a teal dress.
" No thank you Mr. Edwards were fine." Said mom getting up.
I turned to her and snorted and started to climb the dirt cliff. I grabbed on to tree root which snapped and almost made me loose my balance if someone didnt grab my arm. I looked up and saw a pair of brown eyes, Rosella. She helped me to my feet and stared at me for a while.
" Thanks" I said and she cocked her head.
I thought she would say something like I was crazy or something but instead she said, " You have pretty hair.'
" Thank you.", I said a little shocked.
Mom was lifted up from the cliff and brushed of all the dirt from her white pants.
" Thank You Mr. Edwards. It was a pleasure meeting you"
" Ready to go inside the new home Honey?" said mom smiling at me.
I looked at her and snorted walking away back torwards the house. I was half way there when I heard running foot steps. I turned around and saw Rosella.
" I believe I didnt catch your name'' said Rosella out of breath.
" I'm Mia. Mia Wilder.", I replied.
" Nice to meet you Mia" said Rosella shaking my hand.
" Rosella!"
" Coming grandpa!" yelled Rosella before disapearing into the woods.
That night I sat in my new room thinking about what happened. I looked around and saw the many boxes that contined my toys and clothes. The moonlight casts weird shadows onto the floor. I thought about today, Rosella. Did I make a new friend? Rosella was the only person that had ever looked at me like I was normal. Her and Archie. It's probably because she didn't know I had problems. When she finds out that my brains messed up she is going to cower away like everyone else. Her brown eyes that are full of curiosty and joy are soon going to fill with fear and hatred. No! Im not going to mess this up. This might be my only chance to having more than one friend. Archie.... Was what mom said true? Is Archie not real? Is he just somone I made up out of lonliness? I remembered when I first met Archie. It was last summer at the park. I was crying behind an oak tree because some kids were picking on me. Archie showed up and asked what was wrong. When I told him he laughed. I thoght he was laughing at me and started crying again. When he said he wasnt laughing at me he was laughing because he thought it was stupid for someone to be made fun of because of their brain. He said that all those kids were brain haters. this made me laugh and ever since me and him were best friends. I didnt think I was talking to no one that day. Archie had to be real! Suddenly my door creaked open. I thought it must be Archie or my black cat, Ruby. Instead it was mom.
" Mia Honey are you still awake?" Mom whispered.
I grunted and hid under my violet covers.
" Please Honey. We need to talk." mom sat down on my bed.
" Honey what happened today could have gotten yourself killed...... ", Mom paused, " Jumpping off those rocks was very dangerous and stupid and........and you really should start thinking about your actions."
It wasn't my fault!!!", I yelled lashing out, " Archie made me! He kept calling me a baby and!"
I started to cry.
Mom sighed," Than maybe Mia you should stop listening to...Archie because what you did today was crazy."
" Im no crazy.", I sniffled.
" Of course not honey.", " Goodnight "
Mom got up and walked out the door; I watched her disaper into the shadows. I was about to lay down and fall asleep when Archie apeared at the foot of the bed.
" Archie! ", I yelled, " What are you doing here?"
" You took a mighty good swim today" Archie said with a smirk
" Shut up! I could have died thanks to you! " I said crossing my arms against my chest.
He laughed, " Who said you would die? "
" Momma. She said what I did was dangerous."
" Well your alive arn't ya? Your mom was wrong.", replied Archie.
I thought about this. He was right Im still here in one peice. wait no he cant fool me.
" No Archie! Momma's right! I shouldnt listen to you anymore"
He was silent. I looked and saw he had his face in his hands. Little sobbing noises came from the slits between his fingers.
" Archie? "
" Im sorry Mia that I almost got you killed", he sobbed, " I just thoght it would be fun"
I thought for a moment. Archie rarely cries this was new to me.
" Archie it's ok "
" Can you ever forgive me Mia? ' asked Archie his voice cracking and his green eyes all puffy and red. " Are we still friends?"
" Of course Archie!", I replied, " We will always be best friends "
Archie finally stopped sniffling, " Really Mia Im soo sorry I made you jump. It was a stupid idea"
" Its ok Archie. Now go and get some sleep you look horriable."
Archie smirked and hopped of the bed." Night Mia "

finally the moonlight and sound of crickets wisked me to sleep.
