Avalon Academy of Elements ~ Part 1 (READ INTRO)
Kat Jones is a girl different from anyone you'd ever meet. First of all, her looks: Kat has straight fiery red hair with aqua blue eyes. Second, Kat is the most popular girl in Fox Meadow Day Middle School, but she is also the nicest girl in the school. Lastly, strange things have been happening to her. Kat's diary is set fire and a cute, stray golden retriver puppy has appeared on her doorstep. But when Kat recieves a mysterious letter, her life changes completely...
Dear Diary,
OMG it's been an awesome summer!! Where can I start? When I first got out of Fox Meadow Day, I've been texting my BFFL Chloe for weeks. I miss her so much since she's at a sleep away camp as a counselor for 3rd graders. So cute though! My mom also got a new job as a teacher, so I will step up on my responsibilty and live my life even better now that Mom gets better pay!! It's been the best part of my life yet, and I'm excited for more good things coming along! Dad would've been so proud, but he passed away (I miss him so much!). My life will get soooo much better!

I push back the red part of my multicolor pen. I close my diary and push in the key to lock it. A mysterious plume of smoke emerges from my diary. I quickly open it up again. I scream. The shriek pierces through the air. My diary was on FIRE. I blow on it, and it quickly stops. Thankfully, none of my precious diary pages were burned. But it was so strange though, how can a fire not destroy paper? It was so mysterious.

"Mom, how are your summer students?" I ask over dinner. I pick up a piece of chicken with my fork. "They're a pleasure, Kat! If you could tutor some of them that would be nice..." replies Mom. I don't hear her, though. I hear a whimper on the doorstep. "I'll go see what that is." I say quickly.
I open the door, and a golden retriever puppy bounds in! He's a bit skinny, and I can see his ribs. Must be a stray, I thought. But she's so cute! "Mom" I call. "There's a stray puppy in the house!" Mom walks in the hall. "Aaaaw, she is cute, but this might be someone elses." says Mom miserably. We let the puppy out so the owner can find her. Five minutes later, she comes right back in. The golden retriever seems to be attached to me. "Well, looks like your ours now." I say, and the puppy barks happily. She runs around the house and jumps on me. "What will you name her?" asks Mom. I think for a bit, but the perfect name I realize was right in my head all along. "Ember, because she's a firecracker." I reply. "Come here, Ember!" Ember runs toward me. She's a very smart dog, I think. The summer's been so awesome!!

I am out walking Ember on a beautiful sunny afternoon. It's been three weeks since Ember appeared on my doorstep, and she got vaccines two weeks later. We share a special bond, and she's my favorite animal in the world.
"Hey look, we're back home." I say to her. Ember barks at the mailbox. There is stuff weird going on, I think. My diary was set fire, should I open the mailbox? So I open the mailbox. All that's there is a single envelope with a mysterious A seal. I take it inside and open it.
Dear Katerina Jones,
You have been accepted into the Avalon Academy of Elements! You and your dog, Ember, will be taken to Avalon Academy by train on August 31st and will attend school until June 10th. Avalon is a boarding school, but you can still come home to visit during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter.
The Avalon Academy of Elements is for teens who are exceptional at controlling the elements. For example, has your diary set fire for no apparent reason? You have done it! Avalon Academy searches for those who are worthy of controlling their powers, and you have been found an accepted into our journey.
The supply list is attached to the back of this letter.

Um, hellooo? This is blackmail! But this might be true, my conscience tells me. How could they not know that your diary was set on fire and your dog is named Ember? Oh my GOD they are total stalkers!!! I storm into the kitchen. "Mom, please read this and tell me if this is blackmail." I say to her. Mom reads the letter, and I get so angry, the paper is set fire. Mom notices, but the fire doesn't hurt her hands. She keeps on reading. "Yes this is true. Because you set this paper on fire with your mind, and both my hands and the paper weren't destroyed." points out Mom. Now I believe it, and I'm happier to go to a boarding school than Fox Day High.

Kat: i've been accepted into a prestige boarding school.
There, I thought. Avalon is a boarding school, and maybe prestige to those who know it. Barely a little white lie.

Kat: of course! omg ur allowed 2 text @ boarding schools. :P
Chloe: been nice txtin u. c u later!
Kat: chloe, if @ fox day high ppl ask where i am, tell them what i told u k?
