Chapter 1

Not Anymore

by: Jacers__
Two weeks before school starts
"Please mom. You are always telling me to follow my dreams and this is one of them!" I said fiercely.

"I meant that you follow your dream to find a good man and raise a family." My mother replied, exasperated.

"That's your dream mother. Not mine. It was never mine." I said through clenched teeth. My hands balled into fists and I hid them behind my back, forcing myself to unclench them.

My mother sighed, sitting lady-like on the couch. She turned her body toward me as if I would listen.

But I wont. I cant. Not anymore. Not when all she does is make me live in her perfect little world. Not anymore.

She opened her mouth to say something but I stormed out of the room before she had a chance.

Feeling her eyes on me as I ascended the stairs, I made an effort to really slam my door. So hard, in fact, I nearly sent the door flying off the hinges.

That got a chuckle out of my father. I heard him from the entrance of the living room, where my mom turned around and began to lecture him.

"Don't laugh Robert! She needs to learn manners! She just let's the words we say slide off her! She's too rebellious!" I heard my mother scream, her voice becoming high pitched.

From behind my door, I imagined her white and black casual dress flying around her as she paced, yelling. Her brown bun was probably coming loose from her head moving so fast. Her green eyes are probably blazing with anger while my dad's brown ones are sparkling with humor.

I smiled too, thinking of my dad. He's has always been the parent I could talk to. He's the one who talked my up-tight, strict mother into letting me attend public high school.

My mother continued to rant and heard her say something like, "...We must tame her, put an end to her rowdiness..."

I whispered to her although I knew she couldn't hear me.

"Good luck with that."
