Chapter 1

Prom

"You have to go to prom with me, Sarah! Even though you don't have a date yet, you still have to go. I'll die if your not there." My best friend, Ashley shrieked. I rolled my eyes and started walking to my car. It was the end of the school day and I needed to get home and babysit my little sisters. Ashley trailed behind, whining that I won't have a date for the senior prom. I sighed,

"Well, it's not my fault that no one will ask me to go to the prom with them. I mean, come on. We both knew that I would never go to prom." That wasn't true. A lot of guys had asked me. I just wasn't going to tell Ash the truth. Yet. Ash looked hopeful as she hopped into the passenger seat of my Mercedes. Starting the car, I heard a tap on my window. I didn't pay any attention to it and continued getting the car heated. It was winter and getting colder. Again, a tap sounded on my window. I sighed at Ash's shrieks and looked at my window, knowing it would be Matt, the school's "Hottie". I rolled down my window and looked at him, ready to snap at him to leave me alone. This is the 100th time that he tapped on my window, asking for a date to prom.

"What do you want, Matt? I need to get home." I impatiently asked. He just stood there staring at me. His pale white skin looked even whiter against all the black he was wearing. I was already angry at him for keeping me waiting. I opened my mouth to snap at him when the two words out of his mouth, along with blood, terrified me to the bones. His voice was raspy as he spoke,

"Too late." I screamed when he dropped to the ground with blood pouring out of his mouth and the huge hole I could now see, on his back. Ashley and I both screamed at the top of our lungs and we both jumped out of the car to see if Matt was okay.

"Matt! Are you okay!?!?" Ashley yelled......No answer...

"Call 911." I said shakily as I checked his pulse. His pulse was just fine. I frowned. Just as Ashley took her phone out of her purse, I heard snickering. "Where is that noise coming from"? I asked. I looked at Matt's face, he was smiling. Then he couldn't hold it in any more. Matt started laughing his head off. I looked at Ash's face, I could tell she was as mad as I was.

"What was that for?!" I yelled at his face as I stood up. I felt my face heating as I hopped in the car, without waiting for an answer. Since my window was down, Matt could talk to me.

"I did it to get your attention. Seems to me, I'm not good enough for you." I rolled my eyes. I started to back out when I stopped, Wait. What if... Thoughts swirled in my mind. Yes, I'll do that. I got out of the car, smiling. Matt smiled back. Perfect. I walked to him, acting all flirtatious.

"So, it did work, didn't it?" I asked him. He was dazzled by my beauty.

"Yes. of course. So, will you go to the prom with me?" I stood on my tiptoes, our faces inches from each other. I felt him take in a quick breath. I smiled once more.

"Why don't you let me think about it?"

"Okay, okay. Take as much time you need." Dude, this is too easy. I pretended to think about it. Well, it wouldn't hurt to go.

"Sure." His eyes widened.

"Finally! Under one condition," Condition? "You kiss me in front of everyone when we are voted king and queen." Well. that didn't work. I smiled to hide my anger. I leaned in, getting him to take the bait. When my lips brushed on top of his, I took all my anger and kicked him in the shin as hard as I could. As he doubled over in pain, I crouched down next to his ear.

"That's the last straw, buddy. Everything else that happens after this, it's because I hate you. Understand?" He nodded quickly and I got up and walked to the idling car.

"What did you do to him?!" Ashley shrieked the whole way to her house. Once arriving, she got out and close the car door, but not before she stuck her head in, "You have to tell me, Sarah. Sooner or later, the entire school will know about you and Matt."

"Just go inside, Ash."

"Not yet. Just answer these two questions for me and I'll drop the subject 'till lunch tomorrow." I rolled my eyes, but I waited. She took this as an improvement, "Okay Question #1: Did you kiss Matt?"

"No, but our lips did brush." Her eyebrows raised. I quickly answered, trying to hide the blush, "It was to trick him to trust me. And trust me, it worked!" I laughed as Ash stood there, shivering. "Girl, get in the car! We can go to my house and finish talking about it." She beamed and left her stuff in the car as she ran inside to tell her parents that she was going to my house. As I waited for her, I drummed my thumbs on the steering wheel, whistling. Something at the corner of my eye moved. I whipped my head and saw an old man staring at me with disbelieve. Dont' show him you caught him staring at you. I followed my inner voice and looked straight ahead, wishing Ashley to hurry up. As if on cue, She shot through the door and quickly got in to escape the cold.

"Ready for the explanation?" She asked as we sat in my room, waiting for my mother to bring the food up. I sighed and told her everything that happened after I got out the car to the old man that I caught staring at me.

"It was weird. Like he knew something I didn't. And a lot of people don't know a whole lot, but us two." She smiled, glad that I had included her in this. "Well, you're my best friend. Of course I'll include you in my secrets."

"Well, I never did ask you my second question."

"Fire away." I sat back on my bean bag.

"Okie-dokie. Question #2: Are you going to prom with him?" I was silently thinking about what happened. I did say yes. I guess I am.

"I think I have to. To show I'm not afraid, I guess." Ashley's eyes widened as she also caught on what I meant. I positioned myself because I had a feeling something bad was going to happen soon. I was just about to tell Ash about the feeling, when my bedroom door opened and my bad feeling got worse. In walked...

Hey guys. Comment who you think should walk in the door. Remember, its a bad feeling. She's a witch, which you will find out in the story how Sarah herself finds out. Hope you enjoyed my story!!
