Chapter 1

The Lone Slytherin

by: BakaGreen
James watched his sister talk animately at her table. Once again she was sitting at Malfoy's side. You hardly ever saw one without the other. "Are you okay mate? Looks like your about ready to break the fork," Lucas said. He let go of it. "It's Lily again, isn't it?" James didn't have to answer. It was the preverbial pink elephant at he Gryffindor table.

The next day after Gryffindor got out of History of Magic when he ran into Scorpius near the Transfiguration classroom "Have you seen Lily?" he asked.

"No, I haven't. My sister spends more time with you than she does with her own family," Scorpius looked put off.

"Calm down I didn't mean anything by it," he told James.

"I don't care just stay away from her. We all know she doesn't belong in Slytherin,"

"Don't take it out on me. Talk it over with the Sorting Hat or the Headmaster," he said. James pushed him. Scorpius tried to walk away but James grabbed his robe.

"Where are you going? To chicken to fight?" he asked.

"Your a hypocrite," Scorpus said pushing James back. That's were it got out of control. Lily was coming out of the classroom with McGonagall when they saw the two of them.

"Stop this instant," the professor cried. Lily ran to them trying to pull them apart. Finally she pulled James off of Scorpius, who was cradling a bloody nose. "Ms. Potter take Mr. Malfoy to the hospital wing." she said and Lily nodded, grabbing his arm and leading him.

"As for you Mr. Potter. I expected better. Come with me to the my office. Wood is off watching the team practice," she muttered something. Oliver Wood was now the head of Gryffindor house, since McGonagall took over as Headmaster. If it was possible he was even more obsessed with Quidditch now and always watched his team practice. " As head of house he should be the one to punish you," she said. He nodded and followed him.

Lily walked into the common room, feeling terrible. None of the students bothered to lift their heads. She never had felt so alone. James had broken Scorpius nose. She herself had some blood on her robe from taking him to Mademe Pomfrey. "Lily! I heard what happened," Her roommate cried running up to her.

"Yeah, my brother broke my best friend's nose. Fifty points from both houses since McGonagall can't figure out what happened. Wood was furious," she said refering to Gryffindor's head of house. "Slughorn said that Cori wouldn't even get detention since he already had his nose broken." Ronny nodded.

"Let's go up to the room. You need to change before dinner," Lily followed her up to the dorm where she took a shower and changed her robes. She sighed as she pulled her hair back knowing this wouldn't be the last encounter between them.

"Harry," Ginny shouted as soon as she heard her husband come through the door.

"What, Gin?" he asked as he set down his briefcase. He walked into the kitchen and saw his wife sitting at the table. She looked extremely worried. He gave her a kiss on the cheek before sitting down next to her.

"I just got a letter from the headmistress," she said handing it to him. He read it over and ran his fingers through his already dishelved hair.

"He got into another fight?" Harry asked.

"It gets even better. Lily owled me and told me it was her friend he got into a fight with. James happens to have broke his nose," Harry shook his head.

"Did he give a reason?" Harry asks.

"No, but things haven't been alright since she got sorted into Slytherin," Ginny said.

"I know, it didn't matter to me what house she got in as long as she didn't get into any trouble and tried her hardest. I don't know about her friend,"

"It sounds exactly like her to become friends with Draco's son, doesn't it?" Ginny asked. Harry gave her a hug and laughed. "What else could we have expected?" He answered.

"Oh, I do have some good news. We're invited to the Burrow for Christmas," Harry let out a happy groan.

"Fun, I assume your brothers are going to be there," she rolled her eyes and hit his arm.

It was just before Christmas break in the Slytherin common room. Scorpius and Lily were finishing up a game of Wizards Chess. "Are you going home?" she asked.

"No, my parents are out traveling," he said.

"Oh, I'm going to the Burrow and it's going to be insane," she said. "I'd invite you to come, but..."

"I get it, James hates me. I know," he said. "Plus my dad would blow a gasket if he knew I was spending Christmas with the Potter's and Weasly's,"

"Don't forget a Granger," she added. He laughed and said, "Check mate," she smiled looking up at him. From what she gathered from her father and uncles he was nothing like his father. Or at least how his father supposedly acted. Scorpius or Cori as she called him was nice and kind. He was smart too, he excelled in potions and DADA. The only class he had trouble in was Charms and Lily helped him in that.

"I'll send you something. Probably something from my uncle," she said refering to George Weasly, the owner of Weasly's Wizardly Wheezes.

"Should I be scared?" he asked.

"Be afraid, be very afraid," she laughed. "I have to go, I promised I'd help Ronnie with her Charms essay," she jumped up and walked away. Scorpius had never felt so happy as when he was with Lily.

Two days later Lily was putting a back pack over her shoulder. She had changed into muggle clothers feeling comfortable in them. "See you after break, Ronnie!" she called to her roommate before leaving her room.

The eleven year old headed downstairs and scanned the small crowd of Slytherins. Her friend was nowhere in sight. "Loki! Where's Score?" she asked.

"In his room still." he said. Lily sighed and headed up the stairs. His door was closed she sighed.

"Cori, open up it's Lily. I wanted to say bye!" she said. Soon a very dishevled boy opened up the door. His pale blonde hair was going every which way and he was still in his pyjamas. "You just got up?" she asked. He nodded. Lily had eaten very quickly in the Great Hall and tried to remember if she saw him. Nope, she did however see her happy twins scowling face.

"Yeah," he groaned. She laughed. Scorpius looked at her. They had barely known each other for four months and already were best friends. Lily was always upbeat and vivacious. Even when he felt terrible all she had to do was laugh. Her laugh was happy and musical. Bell-like almost. It lingered in your mind and you always hoped you would be lucky to hear it again or even better; triggering her laughter made you feel wonderful.

"If you didn't get breakfast just go down to the kitchens. That's what Uncle Ron and George said,"

"Thanks, you leaving now?"

"We have to catch the train," she gave him a quick hug before skipping away. Scorpius would bored for the rest of Christmas break. He sighed as he remembered her laugh, hoping it would last in his mind until she came back.

James got off the train. He waved 'Bye' to Lucas and headed towards his parents. They went through the barrier where his parents where waiting. Lily ran towards their dad at full speed ahead, so did Rose to Aunt Hermione. Hugo half-jogged to Ron where he clapped him on the back. He saw Victoire, their cousin, walking hand in hand with Teddy Lupin. Victoire's parents were talking with Mum.

"James, hurry up!" she cried. He jogged over. "Have fun?" she asked. He nodded and mum hugged him. Rose was already discussing her classes with an excited Hermione.

"Is everyone accounted for?" asked dad. There was a quick head count before the mob headed out. Once outside Kings Cross, they tried to locate their station wagon. They had to be careful, because Aunt Hermione had charmed the car so everyone could fit comfortably.

As quickly as they could the twelve people crammed in. "Ronald, I wish you would let me drive," Hermione whined.

"Nonsense, I'm a perfectly good driver," he said.

"Shall we ask the Whomping Willow?" his mum inquired.

"Play nice Gin," his dad said lightly. James's mum was always reminding their dad of things that had happened when they were at school.

"Where's uncle Percy?" Hugo asked.

"Him and Audrey are picking up the girls and arriving earlier. Did I mention Charlie's coming home too?" Hermione answered. The car was filled with noise and laughter as they arrived to the Burrow. Everyone piled out of the car.

"Welcome, welcome," called their Grandma. "A little late aren't you? Percy and Audrey are already here, along with George and Angelina." She said hugging everyone. "Oh Teddy! Andromada is here already," she called out to the boy who was busy snogging Victoire in the back of the mob.

"Give it a rest!" James cried.

"Be nice, James," Lily said. "At least if they get married, he'll actually be family," Teddy hairs changed from it's normal brown to a bright pink. Soon the mob shifted inside. The house seemed to have shrunk, with the size of the family. Inside you could see George talking to his son and daughter, much to his wife Angelina's dislike. Uncle Percy had greeted Harry and started discussing new regulations.

The Burrow seemed back to normal. With only Molly and Arthur living there it was strangely empty. Now the whole family was here (somehow they even managed to pull Charlie away from his dragons) and the house seemed to be bursting at the seams. Hermione had already helped Molly Weasly with some spells and charms to coax the house to expand even more. They had put tempory expansion charms on it so there was extra rooms so everyone could stay.

Lily greeted everyone happily and struck up conversations with a few of her many cousins she had not seen much of at school. They all danced around the topic of her house and mangaged not to bring it up. She suspected that Uncle George was going to say some kind of comment but her mum had got to him first. There was no denying it. Lily was an outcast. The lone Slytherin in a house full of Gryffindors.

It was late at night just before everyone fell asleep. Not a lot of people stayed behind. There was five Slytherin's altogether. Everyone sat at the same table in the Great Hall, it would of have made the room seem even bigger with everyone spread out.

Scorpius heard a noise outside the window and opened it. In flew a small brown owl. He didn't recognize it but pulled the piece of parchment and smiled at the handwriting; distinctively Lily's.

Scorpius,
The Burrow is buzzing with activity. Somehow the entire family has shown up! Well not the entire family, but all of mum's brothers and their families. My Grandmother's house has already took much abuse from my mum and her brothers now it looks like it's in for the count.

My aunt Hermione helped charm it and put many spells so it could all of us (nearly thirty! I lost count trying to get the exact number, but there was twelve at Kings Cross and there is at least double). I think I might go insane. James and I are still hardly talking and the entire family has skirted around the issue, but I don't think it will last much longer. I'm the black sheep, but I'm fine with that. At least people don't try to stick James and I together!
Your Friend,
Lily.

Scorpius was glad for the letter. He sent the small owl down to the owlry. Even though it was late he penned her a letter and intended to send it first thing in the morning, along with a Christmas present he bought her.

Lily,
Thanks for the letter. Hogwarts is strangly empty now, but it looks brilliant! You would like it here. I'm sure your having fun. I can only imagine what it is like there. Professor Longbottom, Wood, the flying instructor and McGonagall always tell tales of the infamous George Weasly and his late twin Fred so I sit here laughing picturing it.

I sent your owl to the owlry for the night so it could rest, you neglected to tell me it's name. I also sent you your present. Don't open until Christmas.
Scorpius.

He signed the letter and went to bed silently laughing. He couldn't stop trying to picture Lily's eccentric family.

The Burrow was warm and quiet. Lily awoke in one of the rooms Aunt Hermione added. All seven of the girls were sleeping in there. Molly, Lucy (Percy's daughters), Roxanne (George's daughter), Victoire, Dominque (Bill's daughters) and Rose lastly.

"Wake up," Lily whispered. Rose slowly woke up and smiled. "Merry Christmas," she said. Lily walked over and woke Roxanne up shaking her slightly knowing her evil plot.

The three girls grabbed their wands and tip toed down the hall. Lily heard something and saw Victoire standing barefoot in the door way wearing a white night gown. She gestured toward her.

The girls, now four in number were standing in front of the the doorway to the boys room. The held their wands like guns in the detective shows that their grandpa was fascinated with since he brought home something called a telly-vision home.

Victoire took her time casting a dissilutionment charm over every one. She was in her sixth year of Hogwarts and could do many advanced spells. Slowly they creeped in and began to spread mischief. Rose reminded Victoire to cast a silencing charm, so as not to wake them before the time came. The girls took turns drawing on the boy's faces and setting up booby traps (which included, but not limited to: three dungbombs and a bucket of water over each of their heads) before heading out Roxanne stopped and wrote in large red letters: Curtesy of The Weasly/Potter Girls. The lettering would dissapear as soon as the door opened.

Lily remembered to hide an extendable ear in the room before heading back into the room. The girls layed on their beds trying to keep from laughing. Soon the three they left behind awoke. "What did you do, V?" asked a drowsy Dominque.

"Nothing, Minny." she said.

"Sure," she muttered. Dominque was in her fifth year and resented Victoire for acting very foolish as times.

"Is daddy going to be angry?" asked Molly who was eight.

"Probably, Roxie was in on it," answered Lucy who was nine.

"Uncle Percy needs to loosen up," Roxanne said. Victoire was resting her chin on her knees, her silky hair a curtain around her mumbling, "What will Teddy think?"

"Shh, I think they're waking up," Lily said.

"Bloody hell!" James cried.

"What happened?" we heard Hugo ask.

"It was the girls!" Louis said. By now everyone had broke into laughter.

"Ugh, why couldn't Roxie take after mum?" Fred said.

"Victoire wouldn't do this," Teddy commented at that point, she broke her calm deminor. The girls settled down quickly as Rose lept up.

"Places everyone," she said. Roxanne had been planning this for weeks, her and Rose. They were fed up with the boy's pranks. Quickly Roxanne buried herself underneath the covers. Victoire started to do Rose's hair as Dominque and Lily started helping Molly and Lucy.

They heard a knock on the door and exchanged glances. "Hide the ear!" Rose hissed and Lily grabbed it and put it in her pillow case. "Come in," the girls, minus Roxanne chorused. Ginny and Hermione walked in.

"Hello," they said eying the girls suspicously.

"We were just getting ready," Rose said.

"I see that and have all of you been in here all morning?" they asked.

"Yes, I've been helping Rose with her hair for ages," Victoire said. In the hall they could hear the adult's voices.

"It was not my daughter. How could you even tink zat?" they heard Fleur say, starting to slip into her French accent, which had almost completely disapeared.

"I thought you said the boy's would demolish the house if they shared a room?" Harry called to Ginny who rolled her eyes.

"Blimey! They're worse then Fred and I," George said. Angelina could be heard yelling unintelligble words at him.

"Then who did do it?" asked Hermione looking as if she was questioning someone in court. The girls shrugged and the confounded adults went back to help clean the mess up.

Scorpius was back in his room. His parents had sent him presents, mainly some candy but a few other odd things. He was eating some Bernie Botts Every Flavor Beans and reading a Quidditch magazine someone had lent him when he heard the familar noise: the owl was back at the window. He let him in and sent him back down to the owlry, after taking the letter off his leg.

Scorpius,
Christmas was amazing this year! Four of us: Victoire, Roxanne, Rose and I snuck into the boys bedroom to play some pranks on them and our parents can't pin it on us even though it could be no one else! We were very careful casting silencing and dissalusionment charms.

I got several presents, but my family is huge. Somehow my Grandma found the time to knit us all sweaters. Mine is green with a white L. Thank you very much for the writing quill. It's much better than the standerd ones I use for school. Have fun with the stuff I sent you, Uncle George was suspicious when I ordered it. I hope you had a good Christmas even though you stayed at school.
Your Friend,
Lily.
p.s. The owl's name is Mad-Eye. My dad named it. Thanks for letting it rest.

It was the day they returned to school after Christmas break. Lily was the first girl up and brought her back pack downstairs. She was about to walk into the kitchen when she heard the adults talking.

"I can't believe your fine with it! Come on Lily's in Slytherin and friends with Malfoy's son!" she heard her Uncle Ron cry.

"Give it a rest, Ron," she heard her Aunt Hermione say.

"Ron, we've discussed this," she heard her dad say exsasperated. "I'm fine with whatever house she's in,"

"Have you seen how it's affected James?" her Uncle Ron continued.

"I'll raise my children and you raise yours Ronald," her mum snapped. She heard people leave. She crept a little closer and could hear her parents whispering.

"Do you think he's right?" her mum asked. For a second it seemed like her dad wasn't going to respond.

"I don't know. It seems like it's affected James more than her,"

"What if she does go...wrong?" her mum asked. She peeked her head around and saw her dad holding her mum. Lily felt the tears prick her eyes. She wasn't angry at her mum; she had just voiced what was on everyone's mind since Lily had been sorted.
