I should have seen it coming. My dad dying and my mom sinking into a depression that had lasted seven years...
My name is Allison Hale. I am sixteen years old and am in tenth grade. My father died when I was nine, and my mom died with him on the inside. When I was eleven I met John Parker, who would become my father figure in this small town with so little female role models.
John owned a large farm two blocks away, and his wife had passed away years ago. I met him while I was walking my HUGE German Shepherd, Kong, down his street. Kong had caught scent of something, and suddenly darted forward, startling me and causing me to fall down.
My hand was all tangled up in the leash at this point, and I was being dragged behind him. After going by about six houses, I finally untangled my hand and fell to the ground. I crawled over to John's lawn and curled up on the cool grass, cradling my obviously broken arm.
