“La Push Washington” I read the sign entering the town “population to small to even remember” I looked down at my phone “and to make matters worse I hardly have phone service” I sighed “this is ridiculous”
“Oh we’ll get you a new phone,” my mom said from the passenger seat “be happy it going to be fun” I sighed pushing my silky jet black hair out of my face “at least there’s no sun” I looked up through the windshield, the sky was a shining gray
“Yes and…” she waited for a response
I rolled my eyes, “and maybe it won’t be all bad” I said
“It’s a new start a new school and old friends,” she said happily “honey you will love La Push”
“I didn’t grow up here mom so I don’t have friends here,” I said as a fact
“But you’ll make friends” she looked at me “besides you needed to get away from that boy” she said the word with a little anger

I looked at the rearview mirror at the little boy sleeping in the backseat then back at the road. We passed by a beach and two houses before we reached our new house. It wasn’t small, but it wasn’t huge the best things about it was the two stories and huge yard. Parking the truck in the driveway, I took a good look at our surroundings, which were mainly trees but the house itself was beautiful. My mom said she had it rebuilt a few years ago so now was a as good a time as any to move in
 “You can go for a walk after we unpack ok,” my mom said from the other side of the truck I nodded in agreement and headed for the trunk. Popping it open I looked at our stuff “why do we own so much stuff” I said
 “Well we are two women with a good financial situation” she was right we did have a good financial situation my father left us all of his possessions he is or was a wealthy Spaniard “Then we have this little edition” my mom came towards the back holding the sleeping little boy I just smiled
“I get it,” I said, she went inside and I began taking out the luggage we crammed into the back. Since the furniture, entertainment center, and breakables had already arrived at the house two weeks before we did we didn’t have anything to do except unpack clothes. Okay to a normal 17 year old girl trying to carry two big roller suitcases filled with shoes, ones mine the others moms, up steep steps at the same time would be impossible but I’m no ordinary 17 year old girl. I lifted the two suitcases with ease and headed into the house sitting them in the living room, I made two more trips before everything was finally inside. I unpacked my belongings and put them in the right places that took three hours, deep breath “done” leaving my room and entering the on across the hall from me Asher was wide awake and playing with his toys which were all over the place “having fun” I asked

I wouldn’t have looked away from his eyes if it weren’t for his rippling muscles I mean I’ve seen some ripped bodies but damn. “Whoa gigante” I spoke in Spanish he smiled showing off his bright canines
I cocked an eyebrow “what are you smiling at”
“I made an impression” he continued to give a cocky smile
“Well if the impression is you’re as big as a bus then yea you made an impression” I smiled then looked down to see an older man around fifty in a wheelchair he had long black hair and eyes that showed he knew things that normal people didn’t “ ‘sup” head nod
“‘Sup” he returned the head nod and smiled “I’m Billy Black” extending his hand I shook it “and this is my son Jacob” he gestured to the person behind him who was still smiling
“I’m Arianna Rodriguez” I introduced myself then moved aside letting them in, Jacob had to slightly lift his chair in order to get him inside when they were in I closed the door after them.
My mom came down the stairs “whose at the…door?” she smiled
“Maddie” he said with a little shock “Madison Waters” he said her full name

It was true we had no idea whether that man was alive or dead he just decided to up and leave one day. Ironically enough that was the same day I got into my very first fight.

I decided to turn on the TV but as I reached for the remote, there was a muffled thumping coming from the second floor. I ran upstairs to see what was wrong when I was in the hallway all the doors closed. I opened the first door on my right, which was my mom’s room
I was a little surprised by how huge it was “she over did it a little” I got back on track and opened the door to my room I covered my ears as soon as the door was open. “Punk” I punched him in the arm making him go ouch he looked a little surprised that I actually hurt him slightly

“Yeah well it wasn’t supposed to feel good” I said walking towards the bed “now where is he”, I said in a low voice
“Who” Jacob asked still rubbing his arm
“Asher” I answered looking under the bed

“Crap!” I walked out the door quickly with Jacob not far behind “Asher” I said a little annoyed heading downstairs. I looked around the room and saw nothing walking into the kitchen mom and Billy were still talking then looked up at us “did Asher come in here” I asked looking around the kitchen

“Yea little boy cute as a button but has a mischievous glint in his eye” describing him is easy finding him is the hard part I walked out of the kitchen then back in “damn” I put my hands on my hips mom gave me a look “oh sorry” I bit the tip of my thumb “where in the world…” I trailed off then there was a tap on my shoulder I looked up at the source
“You looked in the back yard” he gestured to the glass sliding doors in the living room I looked back
“We have a back yard?” I asked confused
“You didn’t notice” mom said
“Sorry if my hands were full at the time” I apologized sarcastically heading for the backyard Jacob was not far behind sliding the door open I stepped outside into the chilly wind. “If you find him just yell” I walked towards the back it was already landscaped and filled with flowers *wow she works fast* I thought mom has always been a perfectionist she likes things done and done right. I searched behind every flower and tree and nothing so I decided to try my secret weapon this kid could not resist
“You would not believe your eyes,” I sang quietly at first still looking behind plants, “if ten million fireflies lit up the world as I fell asleep.” Then I got a little louder “'Cause they'd fill the open air and leave teardrops everywhere you'd think me rude but I'd just stand and stare.” After that line, I heard whispering
Coming from a patch of flowers I already checked so I went back and it was slightly louder, “I'd like to make myself believe that planet Earth turns slowly. It’s hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep 'Cause everything is never as it seems”
“Got that right” I said standing over the little boy with my hands on my hips, he looked up at me with a sheepish grin
“Hi” he said innocently
“Hi” I said and he knew he was in trouble “you know better than to mess with something that’s not yours right” he nodded in agreement “so you want to tell me why my stereo was up all the way Asher,” he did not answer

“Asher” I said sternly he was still and I continued to wipe his face then went to his hands “there” throwing the paper towel away “now was that so bad?” I said
“Yes” he said in the crook of Jacob’s neck we all laughed
I decided not to punish him but give him a warning and he was happy with that
“We should be going” Billy said rolling towards the door we followed “it’s nice to have you back Maddie” they hugged “you should go by and see Sue”
“Yea if she will let me in,” she mumbled thinking no one heard but I did
“Want me to show you around tomorrow” Jacob asked me
I pretended to think about it “uh…..okay be here around seven tomorrow”
He nodded lifting his dad and walking to his house, which happened to be four houses down from us, we went back inside ate dinner and got ready for bed, which was a challenge since Asher does not like taking baths
“Asher its 11:00 I’m tired just get in the tub please” I begged it has been a long day and this kid was wired with what I don’t have a clue he was just more energetic than usual “please” I put my hands together standing by the bathroom door he pretended to think about it then shook his head I sighed “okay”
Ten minutes later, I was scrubbing him down in the tub he was laughing the entire time ten more minutes he was in his pajamas and twenty minutes after that he was fast asleep. I was wiped so I decided to take a quick shower then go to bed where I slept calmly in my new home.
