Chapter 1

I've seen him around our house for sometime now. I didn't know what his name was, or how old he was, all I knew was that he was a worker for my family and I.
The only time I would see him, is when he was tending the horses in the stables, brushing their manes, or walking them around our yard.
He was a good looking boy, he looked to be around 18 years old. He had a dark tan, and green eyes, and a perfect smile. I wanted to know him, but it was ruled that the rich couldn't be with the poor. Unless telling them what to do.
I just so happened though, as I was re-telling myself that rule in my head, I looked up, and saw him brushing Massie, one of our horses. He saw me, and smiled. Of course I smiled back. Before I knew what I was doing I looked over my shoulder, picked my dress up by the sides, and walked over towards him.
"Hello." I said, with a smile. He looked alarmed, he knew the rules to well.
"Hello, Miss." He said. He shyly bowed in front of me, "What can I do for you?" He asked sheepishly.
"Oh, nothing. I just wanted to see what you were doing." I said. I shook my head at my ridiculous excuse of walking over.
"Oh. I'm just taking care of the horses, Miss."
"Call me Julia." I corrected him.
"Julia." He repeated. He was staring at me, as if he was remembering my every feature. "I'm Robert." He said, extending his hand. I took it, and then I heard my Father calling out to him.
"Julia?" He called again, close to the barn. I released Robert's hand and straightened my dress.
"Here, Father!" I called. Father turned the barn, and narrowed his eyebrows.
"What are you doing in here, Julia?" He asked. I cleared my throat, and walked towards him,
"I was admiring the horses, Daddy. I think we should go for a ride, one day?" I said confidently.
Father smiled, and looked at Robert as if for the first time, "Was she, doing just that?" He asked. Robert looked at me, then back to my Father,
"Uh, yes sir." He said. Focusing back to Massie.
Father started to laugh, "Julia, dear. You've never shown to care for these animals."
"Well, Father. I should, they're beautiful animals. Maybe one day I can go for a ride with you?" Father shook his head,
"No, no, dear. I don't know how to ride. But this servant boy can take you."
Robert looked back up at Father and nodded, "Ye--Yes Sir."
I smiled back at Robert and nodded, "Tomorrow?" I asked. He looked at me and smiled,
"Yes, Miss Julia." Father and I turned around, and started walking back towards the house,
"Nice looking lad, to bad he's a worker." He said, shaking his head. I nodded, and we continued to walk in silence.
