Never Was A Fairy Tale

Sunlight fell over my slightly bronzed skin and I ran to take cover in the shade under a couple maple trees with my twin brother, Sam. His black hair fell in curls down his neck and his sky blue eyes held laughter in them. We layed there for a few moments trying to catch our breath, it was just another typical summer day. We had spent a few hours down at the river, played football with some of the neighborhood kids, and ate icecream at both meals. Dusk was starting to fall upon the cloudless sky. "TAG! You're It!" I yelled tapping Sam lightly on the shoulder then sprinting away towards the park across the street. My dark hair fell straight down to the middle of my back and I was wearing one of my sunday school dresses because we had had services earlier that morning. "Shane!" Sam screamed pushing me into the gravel and I began to tear up as blood poured from a gash on my knee. Before I could scream at Sam for pushing me, the sounds of screeching tires and breaking glass broke in. My eyes were still watering with tears as people began to rush around. I didn't even notice the flashing red and blue lights or long wails of sirens as they grew closer. After a few moments of confusion I saw my mother run into the picture crying and screaming. I wanted to tell her I was okay and that Sam didn't mean to hurt me but I couldn't fit the words around the lump in my throat. Not even five minutes after my mom had arrived my father came behind her pulling her back by her waist as the police began to inspect the scene. Beep Beep I slammed the snooze button on my alarm clock down as I sat up in a pile of sweat. That was the third nightmare this week.
