    I don't really care for any of the disney pop singer (or Avril lately, her first two albums were ok, but then... she went way too poppy for my taste.)
    But it's called a song cover. Covering someone else's song is just paying tribute to them. (At least that's how it works with bands, I'm not sure about pop stars, but I don't see why it would be any different.)
    plus it's not 'stealing', since there's a section of copyright law that allows for cover versions.

    One either has to have permission from the original artists, or a mechanical license in order to legally cover a song in the first place. It's ho that part of copyright law works: the copyright holder gets paid for every cover of their songs.
    So it's not theft. It's just a cover.
