Chapter 1

Kind of Like a Muggle Soap Opera

by: BakaGreen
Scorpius was acting strange, Lily thought as she packed her bag to take with her. She had everything ready and was going to meet Flint in the Common Room so they could walk to the train together.

In the Common Room she heard her name being called and put a polite smile on her face expecting Marvolo, but instead saw Scorpius and felt instantly happier. "Hey, Score," was all she said. A small smile played across his lips, a smile reserved only for her.

"Lily can I talk to you?" he asked.

"About what?" she asked but was inturrupted by Flint walking up behind her, giving her a kiss on the cheek. His smile faded and the intensity of hers wavered.

"It's not important I just wanted to wish you a merry Christmas," he said before walking away. That wasn't it. She known him for almost three years and if he just wanted to wish her a merry Christmas he would have said so in the first place.

"Are you ready to leave?" he asked. She nodded and he wrapped an arm around her waist and the two left. During the train ride she sat with Marvolo bored out of her mind. She missed the fact that Scorpius always brought a game of wizards chess with him and they could play. Somehow she doubted that Marvolo would like to play, but still.

Instead she got out a book in read and Marvolo was content to watch her, which was mildly creepy (finally he got out a Quidditch magazine obviously bored). If Scorpius was here he would ask her why she hadn't turned a page in five minutes. The truth was Lily was always doing stupid impulsive things to prove others wrong, sometimes they turned out alright. Like when she got sorted into Slytherin, but this was one of the times it didn't work out for her.

"You coming Lily?" she heard Marvolo's deep voice and looked up. She tucked a lock of hair behind her ear.

"Yeah, sure," she said distracted as she grabbed her bag.

"Are you alright?" he asked. She rolled her eyes, thank you Captain obvious. "Fine," she lied and he didn't attempt to contradict her. Once again he wrapped an arm around her waist and they both went. Once they got off the train he gave her a quick kiss on the lips.

"See you soon. Owl me," she flashed him a quick smile and retreated. Was it terrible that whenever she was alone with Marvolo she would rather be with Scorpius studying potions even.

"Lily!" she heard her dad cry. Happily she ran to him and let him engulf her in a hug.

"Hey," he said. He led the twins back to the car. James sat in front and Lily propped her legs on the seat in the back. He gave them news. Like when his mom went back to work in the office and apparently Molly loved Albus and was watching them for her. "I can't believe it will only be us for Christmas," Harry said. "Ron and Hermione went to go visit her family, your Grandma and Grandpa are heading to Romania to visit with Charlie. You know Bill and Fleur usually like to keep to themself,"

"I'm just surprised Lily didn't invite her boyfriend," James sniggered. Lily's eyes widened.

"James, I told you to stop teasing her about Scorpius," Harry looked from his son to Lily, who's face was turning an interesting color that she can only achieve when she's angry.

"I didn't say anything about Scorpius," James looked at his sister smugly. "Don't listen to him," Lily said. The last thing she wanted was to bring this up now.

"Lily Luna Potter, if your lying to me..." he started.

"Don't worry she is. You'll love her boyfriend though. He's a prefect and the Quidditch captain. You should see them in the halls snogging..."

"We do not!" she objected. Harry by now was so lost. When Lily and James started one of there rows you had no idea who to believe. He just gripped the steering wheel tighter as he turned down the road. They started bickering even more.

"That's enough!" he shouted. James and Lily both flinched. He never, ever raised his voice not to them. The only time they could really remember him yelling was when Uncle Ron was telling one of his outrageous stories, then mum couldn't even calm him down, they had to get Aunt 'Mione to do it. "We'll sort this out when we get home," he muttered quietly. By now the twins had quieted.

It was days later when Lily was in here room. They had already celebrated Christmas and somehow they'd danced around the topic of her and Flint. She sighed as she flipped through a book Aunt 'Mione sent. It was on advanced Charms. "Lily can I talk to you?" It was her dad.

"Yeah," she called through the door. He came in and sat down on the chair. Her room seemed smaller than ever because it was cramped with so much stuff.

"About this guy," he started looking very uncomfortable, running a hand through his already messy hair. It was a habit James had picked up too.

"What about him?" Lily asked, popping the gum she was chewing; pretty much all James had given her was candy. Her dad gave her a look and she rolled her eyes. The last thing any teenage girl wants to talk about with her dad is the guy she's dating. Lily knew for a fact that he himself had only dated like two girls before mum and the same with her.

"Tell me about him," he said.

"There's not a lot to say. He's Captain of the Quidditch team and a Prefect. He's nice," she said. Lily thought that sounded pathetic. She thought of Celia or Imogene constantly gossiping about the guys they liked, but what else was there to add? He's okay, but I'm mostly dating him because nobody expects me to? Her dad gave her a look as if to say, 'more'. She continued. "He just happens to be in his sixth year,"

"What's his name?" Lily treated her dad to another eye roll. She couldn't believe she just told him that the guy she was dating was three years older than her and didn't even care! Rose cared, well that wasn't saying a lot since she worried about everything.

"Marvolo Flint," she answered looking at his face, gauging his response. Her dad and mum knew most of her classmates parents. Before he got a chance to say anything more her mum yelled."Harry!"

"Can it wait?" she could almost see her mum roll her eyes. That's were she picked up the bad habit she couldn't seem to kick.

"Harry James Potter get down here!" He looked at me. "We'd better go or your mum will show you to use that Bat Boogey Hex," Lily giggled and followed her dad out of the room and down the stairs. Teddy was standing in the living room his hand clasped with Victoire.

"What's the matter?" he asked. Ginny was standing arms crossed looking at the couple, doing a very good imitation of Grandma. "Ask them," then she rolled her eyes and muttered, "I can't believe it,"

"Harry you've got to stop Bill," he said.

"What did you do?" he asked.

"Well, I sort of proposed," Teddy said his hair shifting to pink. The color it turns when he's embarrassed.

"How do you sort of propose?" Harry asked chuckling. "This isn't funny!" Ginny muttered.

"I bought the ring when I was Christmas shopping. The guy said he didn't know how much longer he was going to be able to keep it, so I put it in my coat pocket and was going to ask Bill if I could marry Victoire. You know I thought he'd appreciate it if I asked him first. I had the ring in the coat pocket, really I wasn't going to ask her until after graduation..." by now he was looking very flustered.
"I borrowed his coat because it was snowing, oh, c'était si beau, vous devriez l'ai vu" Victoire started slipping into French, her mothers language.

"English?"

"It doesn't matter! I felt something in the pocket and thought it was gloves or something and pulled it out. Teddy saw me holding the box so he got down on his knees in the snow and asked me right then and there. When I got inside dad saw the ring on my finger and went mental. Then mum started speaking french so fast I couldn't understand!" she said frantic. Before getting lost in French that no one could attempt to understand.

The whole thing was kind of comical if you could call it that. Kind of like a muggle soap opera (the newest thing Grandpa started watching) with Victoire nearly breaking into French every other sentance and Teddy's hair changing color(maybe not that part but it made it more interesting for James and Lily to watch). Mum was watching the whole thing in laughter.

"It's not funny!" Teddy said.

"You really think Bill is going to do anything, Bill!" Ginny said. Her brother was laid-back and easy going. He was serious when he needed to be.

After calming everyone down dad called Bill and Fleur to get everything settled. It took a while to get Fleur to talk in English (or at least slower French so Victoire could understand).

Lily went downstairs but stopped right at the kitchen when she heard her parents talking. The whole thing was a flashback of the first year. "I could have done without all this drama," Harry said.

"It would have been peaceful if Teddy and Victoire hadn't showed up," Ginny pointed out.

"You should have been on the car ride home. Apparently Lily has a boyfriend," Harry said shocked. Ginny just broke out in laughter.

"Finally," she Lily looked at her dad's face. "Come on don't tell me you weren't expecting it. Lily's a pretty girl,"

"She's fourteen! We both didn't start dating until our, what? Fifth year?" he asked. She saw her mum roll her eyes.

"Let's look at the facts: I had three, no four, older brothers at school with me and you were dealing with Voldemort every year. Let's see: first year was the Philosopher's stone, second year you rescued me from Riddle in the Chamber of Secrets, third year you were dealing with your innocent, but convicted god-father that supposedly wanted to kill you, fourth year wasn't that the triwizard tournament? You went out with someone then..." Lily watched in wonder as her mum counted off his adventures at Hogwarts. He stopped her after the the fourth year, but she still wanted to hear more. Her father never told them anything about his past, Aunt 'Mione said not push it he would tell us when we got older.

"I know, but it's Lily. My Lily. She used to tell me everything and now she's dating Flint's son. Can you believe it? I'm surprised she didn't try out for Beater just to prove she could do it," he said with a chuckle. Her mum gave him a hug.

"Sounds like someone else I know,"

"Who?" Harry asked mischievously.

It was the first time since her first year that Lily sat with her family on the train. They were all abuzz with talking about Teddy and Victoire's engagement that they skipped talking about her. By now the they had almost forgot the fact that she was even dating Flint or they they were avoiding it.

Once off the train they headed back to their dorms. "Good to be back isn't it?" she asked Pip Squeak who was already claiming his spot on her bed. She put away her stuff, her roommates would kill her if she kept her room like she did at home.

She had sat down on her bed reading the book on charms when Ronnnie came in. "Lils, someone wants to talk to you," she looked up. "Who?" Lily asked. Ronnie rolled her eyes as if the answer was obvious.

Lily set her book down and raced out of the room and down the stairs, seeing exactly who she expected. Scorpius. He was wearing a scarf and had a coat on. When he saw her he smiled brightly. "Do you want to go on a walk?" he asked. She looked around the Common Room and saw a few people scattered around. "Sure," she answered.

The two walked out and into the courtyard. "Maybe we should stay inside," Lily said. It was January but the snow didn't seem like it would go away any time soon. "Here," he said, handing her a sweater. She looked at him sceptically, there were three things wrong with this a) he'd freeze b) she had a boyfriend and c) no matter how nice Scorpius was it was very un-Slytherin to hand someone their coat, even though they were friends.

"It's fine," she said. He rolled his eyes and shrugged it off anyway revealing a thick sweater underneath. Reluctantly she took it and was immediatly enveloped in his scent. "So what did you want to talk about?"

"What makes you think I want to talk about anything?" he mumbled.

"Because you haven't talked to me much lately and you don't just take random walks," she said, looking at him. He looked very at home in the snow with his pale hair and skin.

"Lily, it's just that,"

"It's about Marvolo isn't it?" she asked looking at him. "Everyone tells me it's a mistake. That I shouldn't date him. 'He's to old' or 'aren't you rushing it, he's not right for you'. I thought you were different. Even my dad was skeptical about him, but my mum stopped him before he said anything. " he was going to open his mouth to say something but she was too fast. "So what now? Your going to lecture me too," he sighed and looked at her. Always so determined to be right.

"No, I was going to tell you it was a mistake because your doing it to prove everyone wrong! I know you Lily and it probably has something to do with what Ronnie told you on the train! So now everyone's telling me to talk to you. James, Loki; Rose and Ronnie haven't come out and said it but,"

"Do you ever get the feeling that people are trying to push us together? The real reason I got put into Slytherin was because of you. It said That Malfoy belonged in Gryffindor, but didn't want to get disowned. Should I place another should-be Gryffindor in Slytherin?"

"Funny it asked me what that 'Pretty Potter Girl' would think if I was in Slytherin."

"See? Everyone's trying to push us together and I don't know why. I'm just so confused I thought if I started dating Flint maybe everyone would lay off, you know?" Scorpius just looked at her. Her skin like cream with cinnamon for freckles. Her eyes were bright blue that always seemed to sparkle and her hair, such a dark vibrant red that matched her personality perfectly. He was her friend, but could they ever be anything more? He thought so, but would Lily even give him a chance with everyone pushing her his way.

"I know what you mean," he murmurmed.

"It seems like your the only one that does," she gave him a hug and he patted her back thinking of nothing else to do.

Lily was confused. She'd tried to avoid everyone for the last week. She didn't want to be anywhere near Flint and Scorpius...was Scorpius. He didn't act weird around her. The same quiet, nice peso he always was. Maybe she'd changed. It was Saturday and they were supposed to have Quidditch practice but another foot of snow got dumped and even Wood forbid them to practice.

"Lily can I talk to you?" It was Flint. She was in the one place everyone forgot to look, the library. Her shoulder slumped but she picked up the books and followed him out. "Is something the matter?" she sighed.

"I should be asking you that," he said grabbing her hand and looking into her blue eyes with his deep brown ones. She loved his eyes, the only part she really did like about him. "So what's going on with you?" he looked at her. Usually she was skipping everywhere and unnaturally happy.

"No," she lied.

"Something is. I don't think it's going to work out between us. Your just to young-" at that she tore her hand away.

"If I'm too young why did you kiss me in the first place? Huh?" she asked.

"I thought you were more mature,"

"I thought you were smarter! Can't you tell I don't even like you? That you irritate me to no end," Lily was furious.

"Maybe you should calm down,"

"Calm down, why should I calm down? You know what, I'm breaking up with you, not the other way around," she said stomping off leaving a confused Flint. He thought she might be a little sad.
