Sand Sweat and passionate love.
When i woke up, i didn't know where i was at first. I rolled over. Above me was a beautiful light blue sky. No clouds. Slowly i sat up and all i could see was sand. Sand dunes towering high. Sand from horizon to horizon.
I was in the desert.
I looked around me only to see 5 dark hunched shapes. 5 people. Were they dead? Thats when i recognized one of them. I ran over to her calling
"Abi, Abi!"
"mmm mum its the weekend" she mumbled rolling over half opening her eyes "Zo? what the hell" she said sitting up strait, and getting head rush.
"where the hell are we" she said suddenly serious.
"I don't know exactly. But i could hazard a guess at Africa?"
"OH MY GOD" she cried
"AFRICA, BLOODY AFRICA. HOW THE HELL DID WE GET HERE!"
"Calm down Abi" i said "look lets wake up these other people first. then we can discuss what we're gonna do. O.K."
"yeah, yeah good idea" she said
We woke up each person one by one. Realizing that they were all people that we knew. there were 3 boys George, Leo and Miles. And another girl Olaia or Oli.
"How in gods name did we get here!?" asked Leo
"This is a set up. a joke right? ent it" said George desperately.
"i don't think so.." i said "i mean how would people be able to move us here without waking us up?"
"Zo has a point" said Miles.
So sorry about this but it was the only way i could start my story. Here let me introduce myself. I'm Zoey Brooks but everyone calls me Zo. I am 13 years old I have long curly brown hair and green eyes. I'm a orphan. My farther was shot whilst on his police shift. And my mother died in a car crash. I managed to escape that with only a broken arm. I was lucky. At school my closest friends are Abigail Stirling or Abi for short, Olaia Lewis or Oli for short. Then there is George Smithers, Leo Stokes and Miles Kershaw. I know boys are some of my closest friends. Anyway carrying on with the story.
"But what are we gonna do? How are we gonna survive?" cried Oli.
"we gotta dig a hole" said Leo calmly
"dig a hole how is that gonna help! are jus gonna crawl in it and die!" cried George
"no i know what you mean" i said "we gotta dig a hole and then... well pee in it"
"ugh Zo" Said George disgusted
"no thats what we gotta do" said Leo "then we put a bag ova the top wid a bowl or summin underneath so that wen the water in our pee evaporates it condenses on the bag runs down to the middle and falls into the container then we'll have summin to drink."
"Im not drinking water thats come from someones pee" Oli stated.
"You're the one who asked how we was gonna stay alive" Leo shouted at her
"Well i didn't ask to be in this situation!" She shouted back
"Well you are so you’re gonna have to start co-operating with the rest of us or your gonna die!"
"SHUT UP" Abi shouted. "Now listen, were gonna have to do whatever it takes to stay alive, Listen" she said sternly looking at George who was about to interrupt "we have to work together if we're gonna stay alive so lets start now. Miles you dig a hole George you help him. Leo, Oli see if you can find anything edible around here. Zo and I will see if we can find a plastic bag and some wood for kindling. OK? good, lets go."
Abi was very good a taking charge of the situation. She was a good leader at all times. I just hoped that she might lead us through this as well.
Me and Abi went looking for kindling and a plastic bag. It didn't take us long to find one, and we came back with armfuls of kindling. Miles and George had dug a good deep hole but Oli and Leo still hadn't come back yet.
"where are they?" George asked "Oh look there they are. They look happy, I wonder why?"
"Hey you'll never guess what we found" said Oli excitedly
"What, what?!" we asked
"Well its a little gruesome but we found a dead man and we took his rug sack and in it there was loads of food! look." And she opened the bag she was carrying to show us a great big heap of food. There were mini cooked sausages, a packet of biscuits, tea bags, crisps, nuts dried fruit, ready popped popcorn, yogurt and cherries.
"And there was all of this useful stuff as well" said Leo emptying his pockets.
He had a Lighter, a torch, a ball of string, box of matches, a map and a compass and hoisting something off his back he also had a tent.
"Your brilliant you two are!" cried Abi embracing them both. Leo went a little pink.
"we'll eat the cherries and yogurt today" i said and everyone agreed.
All together there were 26 cherries
"thats 4 each and another one each for Oli and Leo for finding all this wonderful food" said Abi.
It got dark quite rapidly so we quickly had to put up the tent. We couldn't quite work it out at first then we found out that the poles were in the wrong way and quickly fixed it.
Then we all clambered into the tent. George had his head resting on Oli's legs with Leo half draped on top of him. Leo had his head on my stomach and I was leaning my head on Abi's legs who had her head on Oli's stomach. Miles just sat there stock straight and no one took much notice of him. Except for me. Soon everyone was asleep. Miles lay down facing away from everyone. He was quite close to me so I reached out my arm and pulled him into the huddle. He turned over and rested his head on my chest. I lay back and closed my eyes, and within moments sleep overtook me.
