Chapter 1
The Paintings Talk
Lily had her robes on already and was heading down to the pitch, when she caught sight of him. Aleksander all 6 feet something of him. "Lily," he said and walked over. "Excited?" he asked. She nodded. "I have something for you,"
"What for?"
"I had a feeling you might need it," he took a small container of the stuff he put on her wrist out. "In case you get hurt. James told me you hate going to the hospital wing," she took the jar gingerly and held it in the her hand. "I'm going to find Rose and the rest of your family." he gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before going. Her shoulders drooped.
"Potter are you going to stand there all day? Maybe start playing wizards chess?" said Flint taughtingly. Her hands balled up, but she walked in and listened to his idiotic speech. The only thing that kept her from cursing him so he could never talk again was the fact he was in his seventh year.
Lily blocked Quaffle after Quaffle, her own Chasers not doing a very good job of keeping them on the Gryffindor side. She felt like yelling at Scorpius to hurry up and catch the bloody snitch, but didn't.
Flint ,of course, wasn't neglecting to block the bludgers and she had a feeling that it was caused by a certain persons visit. She had just blocked another Quaffle when she saw Scorpius and James flying all around the pitch. Diving, swerving, rising, speeding, you name it she saw it happen.
They edged closer and closer until she saw his hand close around the snitch. The green and silver stands errupted in cheers. Lily flew down to the ground, where Scorpius was, with her broom in hand she gave him a huge hug. He smiled his smile that was only for her.
Lily went and put her broom away. She wanted nothing more than to shower. All of her hair had been put into a messy bun to keep it out of her eyes during the game. "Lils can I talk to you?" It was Aleksander. She nodded and they walked toward the lake. It getting dark early, but they had installed lantern type things now.
"Wasn't that a great game?" she asked.
"Lils, I don't think I can do this anymore,"
"Do what?" she asked. "I mean we're technically dating,"
"That's what I'm talking about. I can't do this anymore. I see the way you look at Scorpius. James told me that you two would never date, because you do the opposite of what every one else says. I can't be the reason anymore. I wish that you would like me the way you like him but that is never going to happen," He walked away leaving Lily standing there, she hugged herself and looked up at the sky and for the first time she uttered the words she refused to say.
"I'm in love with Scorpius Malfoy," the words were like sweet candy in her mouth. She laughed a bitter laugh hating to be wrong.
Lily ate breakfast in the Great Hall, it was already starting to be decorated for Christmas. She was surprised as James walked in and sat down next to her. "How come your name is on the list for staying at Hogwarts? I know mum and dad are going to be gone, but we're staying at Grandma's..."
"I just want to, okay?" she sighed. Thinking of the night, she hadn't had the courage to to tell Scorpius.
"Lily," he said softly. Sure her and James had a reputation of not getting along very well and of hexing each and for giving each others friends broken noses, but they were still twins and you couldn't change it. "Think about Albus, he'll miss you,"
"I think someone else will too," she said. He gave her a hug goodbye and she headed back up to her empty dorm room.
She remembered her letters from Scorpius her first year. His words didn't do the place justice. It was magnificent. All the students ate at one table and got to know each other better. There were only eight students from Slytherin staying behind and quite a few from Hufflepuff, Gryffindor and Ravenclaw had the usual few.
Christmas wasn't anything special. She gave Scorpius a book on Potions that she thought he might enjoy and her family sent her gifts. That night she couldn't sleep. She'd worn her nightgown to bed and slipped on some shoes. She didn't even bother to take her wand as she went down the corridor.
When she came to the window she leaned out and uttered a few words. Soon a glittering ledge appeared. She had discovered it her second year, an invisible ledge. She jumped out the window and sat down. It was chilly, but this way she could look at the sky and not get caught by a teacher or the lone prefect that wandered the halls.
"Lily," she heard someone whisper. She looked up and saw Scorpius. "Jump," he looked at her strangely. "Trust me," he jumped out of the window and landed like a cat next to her.
Scorpius looked at Lily. He'd never seen her in pajamas but always thought they'd be flannel pajama pants and a huge shirt from her favorite Quidditch team. He thought she looked more like a little kid than the near fifteen year old she was. Her red hair was in a haphazard braid over her right shoulder. "Here you must be freezing," he said handing her a blanket. She wrapped it over her shoulders.
"How'd you find me?" she'd ask.
"Your not that sneaky, besides the paintings talk," he said with a smile. She looked at him. "How'd you find this?"
"Paintings talk," she answered and then sighed pulling the blanket tighter around her thin body. "Why'd you come out here?" she asked.
"I didn't give you your Christmas present," he said handing her a small box. She gasped slightly as she opened it up. It was a locket. Oval in shape and silver with a small green stone in the middle around it were engravings of flowers, lily's. The chain was like a thick silver rope and long. She turned it over to reveal a smooth back with words engraved in cursive: The Last Enemy That Shall Be Destroyed Is Death.
"I can't take this. It cost too much,"
"Actually I bought it at a thrift shop of sorts. I saw it and thought of you,"
"It has the same inscription as what's on my grandparents grave," she said. He took it and put it on her. He watched as she sat there and blinked away tears. He touched her chin and lightly turned her head to look at him, then leaned in and kissed her. After a few seconds she pulled away.
"Is something the matter?" he asked. She just shook her head and uttered those words.
"I love you,"
"What?"
"I love you Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy," she said. "Say something,"
"I love you too Lily Luna Potter," with that he wrapped an arm around her and they sat there looking at the stars. When the wind picked up the two walked back to the Common Rooms and gave each other another kiss before heading to bed with smiles upon their lips.
