Lewis and Clark Expedition Letters
Sierra von Midget is a character I made up who explored with Lewis and Clark.
Chapter 1
Letter One
Dear Nathaniel von Midget,
For sure there is never a boring day here on the Great Plains. Just this morning we encountered a grizzly ferocious beast we call a bear, and yesterday one of our canoes tipped. Had it not been for Sacagawea, we would have lost a month of provisions.
I would be willing to bet you are glad you aren’t here; the frontier is not for anyone shorter than the height of the ambitious Napoleon Bonaparte of France, as we must walk across the bottom of the rivers. The rivers are about five feet tall.
Captain Lewis went ashore of the river to find the Shoshone Natives to plea for horses. Lieutenant Clark and the rest of us must search along the river.
When we found the natives, Sacagawea recognized the chief was her brother, and he was very friendly to our cause. The acquired horses are the finest I have seen in this unknown land.
Winter approaches, and we must find shelter or risk freezing to death.
Missing you much,
Sierra von Midget
