Chapter 1
Where
Emily stood alone, unaware where she was. The only thing in sight was the beautiful, glossy red sky above her, and short, green grass below her. Emily's mind was tossing and turning like the vicious sea, trying to recap how she ended up in the middle of nowhere. Emily looked around, observing her surroundings. Without thinking she began walking, directly towards what she thought was a moving object.
Less than half an hour later, Emily finally reached her destination. She noticed a man standing near a tree. Almost middle aged. Also alone, and seemed quite uncomfortable. "Hi.", Emily blurted out. The man stood with a puzzled face expression. "Im lost.", Emily explained. The man did not say a word. He simply pointed to his right. "What? I would just really appreciate it if you would help me get home. I assume your lost too?" Emily questioned. "I'm not lost.", The man replied.
The man got closer. In a very soft voice he whispered, "Run." Emily didn't know what to do. She was confused and scared but listened. She began to run as fast as she could. She glanced back. The man was gone. Her heart was pounding extremely loud, she felt like it was going to burst from exhaustion. But she kept on going.
Later, feeling light-headed she began to slow down. Emily crashed down to the floor and fainted. "EMILY!" cried a voice off in the distance. Emily's eyes shot open. "Sweetie, are you feeling any better?" "Mom? Yes I am ok. Where am I?", Emily stared at her mother, waiting for a response. "The hospital." Her mother said. "What happened? I fainted....?" Emily's voice trailed off, and slowly began to question her dream and reality. "Can one affect the other?" She wondered. The nurse walked in and asked to speak to Emily's mother outside the room. While the nurse and Emily's mother were talking, a man walked into the room. It was him. The man in her dream. Emily began to shred tears. The man saw every single drip that crashed to the floor.
"Can you explain everything? Anything? Please!" Emily begged. "Emily, while you were having a nightmare, you passed away. Your heart gave out." He explained. "That's not possible! I'm here now." Emily exclaimed. "He, the man above us was watching down on you, during your dream. He realized you never stopped trying to get home. Your dedication was admirable. It just wasn't your time." Emily froze, not knowing what to say. She didn't want to believe it. She was only fourteen. "Who are you?", she managed to say. The man just smiled. His wings spread out. His halo was visible. He rose slowly then he was gone.
"Emily, your going to be okay!" Her mother shouted so full of joy. In the car ride back to her house, Emily couldn't help but to glance up at the sky. There was the beautiful glossy red sky, right abover her. She recited a prayer to herself. She put her hand over her heart. Normal. She was relieved it was all over.
