Chapter 1
Sisters
Natalia got up and headed for her early workout. She changed into some workout clothes then went for a short jog. After her mile jog she walked to the cafeteria and grabbed a bottle of water with an apple. She walked to the practice room only to find it locked. "Miss Karova!" she shouted seeing the director. "Can you unlock a room for me? Please..." she pleaded.
"Natalia, we're having a dress rehearsal for the recital today. You need to rest there are going to be directors from other programs and instructors from schools. I don't want you tired," she said looking at the girl. Natalia was the most promising student she ever had. Not only did she have the raw talent, she had the drive. She'd never seen a girl with more determination.
"I'm fine. I really am," she said. It was Thursday and Saturday was the recital for the older kids. On Saturday parents came and saw the progress the students had made from September and also directors of programs and instructors that saw the students. The students they thought were talented got offered scholarships and places in dance camps over the summer. They always had the dry run on Thursday, then Friday they worked out the bugs before the real performances.
"Natalia, your ankle," she said gesturing to the girl. She rolled her eyes. A week ago she rolled it in practice. It still ached, but it was fine.
"Really, I'm great. Better than ever," she told the woman.
"That's all fine and dandy, but please go wake up your sister. We don't need her late to her classes." they left after lunch to practice. Tally made her way to the room where Natasha was putting on makeup. She had on one of her outfits. Natasha always went through phases trying out new things. The outfit must have been from one of her designer phases.
"Your back early," she commented dryly as Natalia started digging through her drawer looking for a pair of sweats.
"Your not actually wearing that, are you?" she asked. Natalia looked at her sisters outfit. Flats with leg warmers, a skirt and layered tank tops.
"Yeah, it's just classes," Natalia said looking at her outfit of sweatpants and a blue Nike shirt with tennis shoes. In her opinion her outfit was a little over the top. "Are those my leg warmers?" she asked looking at them.
"Yeah, you never wore them. Sorry, I meant to ask you last night," she said with a smile. Natalia just smiled at her. Her crazy, unique sister. At times it seemed like she was the only thing that kept her sane, the thing that kept her from pirouetting herself into the ground.
