The Dream
This is a horror-ish story I am entering for a competition on here. It's about a young lady who keeps having strange reoccurring dreams... But soon people and events from the dreams seem to be creeping into her reality. Can she stop the awful events that she has been dreaming about, or will her terrible premonitions end her life forever?
Chapter 1
Not again...
Drip, drip, drip.
Where is that coming from?
Drip-drip, drip-drip
Faster now.
Drip-Drip, drip, drip, drip-drip.
It's starting to annoy me...
Drip... Drip...
"Stop it!" I yelled into the darkness. All fell quiet. Whatever had been making the sound had gone.
I held my breath whilst sitting up in my bed, listening... waiting, to hear the noise again but nothing came. I looked to my electronic clock on my bedside cabinet: 3.46am. Too early to get up even for me. I laid back in my bed, pulling the satin green quilt up to my shoulders, trying to remember what had woken me in the first place.
The dream. That was it. It was the dream.
My eyes closed and the darkness took me.
I was running. Running across a beach at night and it was cold out, but the chase brought me warmth. Something, someone, was chasing me, but it was hard to see where I was headed in the pitch black as thick, sour beads of sweat rolled into my eyes.
I had no idea what beach I was on or how I had gotten there. All I knew was that my life was in danger. I came to a halt as I saw a cliff face in the distance. I was cut off.
I changed tracks and headed for the sea. When I reached the inwards moving tide I waded in until I was at least waist deep. The karky coloured combats I was wearing weighed me down in the water as the sea level raised up further, until my black vest top too, was damp.
I was clueless to what I was doing, but it felt like the right thing to do. My foot caught on something large on the sea bed. I fell, fully sub-merged in the water. I felt the sea salt sting my eyes as I opened them, and what I saw horrified me. It was a body: Male; sandy blonde hair, lifeless green eyes, and a grey skin which looked to have once been golden. I knew this man from somewhere...
My chaser was closing in.
My alarm went off, my heart thudding in my chest. 7.00am. Great, time to get up.
