Heart_And_Seoul: 04-11-2011 at 8:45 PMIt went into action today, after a six month period to let people know that the law was to go into effect. There are fines and jail time for forcing women (double for minors) to wear the niqab or burqa, which covers the lower face or the whole face respectively.
This is for safety and equality reasons. They do not ban head coverings. That is allowed, except in certain places, such as civil positions, and many schools. If the face is covered, no one can actually tell who is underneath all that.

First, this is NOT RELIGIOUS DISCRIMINATION. This is for safety reasons, and France has fought hard for equality between men and women, and this veiling of the face goes against that work. So what do you think of it??

loveunites: 04-12-2011 at 1:08 AMFor safety reasons, i agree that it's a good decision. But for religious reasons, what happened to a little thing called religious freedom? I believe that it's discrimination against what you believe in. Yeah, it's good that it helps with safety issues but at the same time I feel that it's unfair to fine people for what their religion considers right or holy.
