Chapter 1
It’s A New Year, It’s A New Life…
“It’s a New Year’s Eve Party,” Amy told me as our arms hooked together. “Everyone’s invited.”
It’d been something Amy Burkoff held every year. When she said that everyone was invited, she really meant this; anybody who was anybody-or if Amy, herself liked you or knew you-you were in. And I happened to be one of the three of the above-I’d been a somebody.
In order to be somebody, you had to be rich, pretty or handsome, and had to be grown up with Amy Burkoff and her friends. It was how it was at East Wing Private School. The Rich and Beautiful on top and the “none of the above” under all of us.
“Mila!” Amy pulled my attention back with her shriek of my name.
I blinked my eyes in surprise, “What?”
“I said ‘do you mind if I invited Liam Martin’!” Amy hollered.
I rolled my eyes mentally as I sighed softly. Liam had been that annoying guy in your first hour that you didn’t like so much, but yet had everybody else liking him. He was also the biggest player-I should know, I was one of his victims. So, he was tall, obnoxious with thick black hair and a baby face that captured any female of any age. So I decided to ignore Amy by saying,
“I don’t really have a dress decided.”
“Don’t change the subject!” Amy cried as I walked away in the other direction. “Mila!”
I waved her good bye as I turned the corner, sliding on my sunglasses. It’d been the end of the day and I, with everyone else, was as tired as hell. My head had been down as I watched my own small feet step down the steps of the school. A black limo pulled up in front of me and the driver Philippe, stepped out.
“Madame Vanpel?” he asked.
“Salut, Philippe,” I smiled as Philippe opened the door of the limozine. “Merci, Philippe.”
He gave me a nod as I climbed in and shut the door behind me. My phone vibrated in my purse, capturing my attention. The caller ID read, “Liam Martin, Requesting Face Time.” Might as well face him and pull on the Mean Girl Mask you’re known for, I thought. My finger slid against the touch screen of my I Phone and I could feel my hands beginning shake just as Liam’s face appeared in front of me.
“Madame Vanpel,” Liam greeted with a smirk.
“What do you want, Martin?”
“What,” Liam said casually as he leaned back against the upholstery. “I can’t check up on my beautiful girlfriend?”
I gave him a sour grin, “I wouldn’t count on being your ‘beautiful girlfriend’ when I’d been the one to blame on the cheating.”
Liam blinked, placing on his “hurt” look. “Ouch, Vanpel, I’d never thought you’d pull those words on me.”
“Did and done.”
“Well, well… Seems my little princess grew up,” Liam laughed softly. “I’m proud…”
“Well I haven’t got a thing to say, Liam,” I cocked my head to the side slightly. “Your jackass-y self hasn’t changed the last time I saw you which was what? One week ago.”
Liam laughed. “Quite observant, aren’t we?”
“You know you love me, Liam.”
“I know I do… and I still do.”
With that, he left me with the blank phone in my hand, speechless.
