What it means to be a TRUE Greaser
Chapter 1
Not rly a story, more of my thoughts
When we hear the word "greaser" I think a lot of the time, it conjures up images of tough teenage boys, greasy hair, leather jackets, and cool motorcycles. I don't think people realize the personality that conceals itself behind the nonchalant mask that every greaser wears. This mask is to hide any feelings they might have, because if they allow their emotion to show themselves, then their opponents and their enemies can take them down. Its not that us greasers are hiding emotion to be "tuff" or "cool", its because we have to. Its what we grew up with and the movies tend to downplay the emotion we have. Another common misconception is that all greasers are guys. Hey now! Girls can be just as tough as they are and grow up in unfortunate situations too. I also don't think that people take the time to sit and think about all that greasers go through to be as tough as they are.
First is their home life. A lot of the time, due to reasons such as alcohol, stress, or a busy schedule, the parents tend to forget about their children. Sometimes the child responds in an angry bitter way, other times, they sulk and go into a depression, and still other times, they drink themselves to numb the pain. It all depends on the person's personality.
It seems like the loving sweet couple who persist against all odds to raise their children, end up dying. This tragic event will affect their children in every aspect of their lives. For example, my friends, Whitney and Tucker Keen just lost their father and their whole lives are now changed. From Christmas time to what kind of man Tucker will become has all changed.
Divorce is also an issue that many teens face at home. Sorry to keep bringing up my friends, but Elian Richter's parents are divorced and he's caught between two entirely different families and nobody really has time for him.
People of today's society like to pretend that abuse is nonexistent. However, abuse is a very real problem that, unfortunately, have no cure. Meaning, if a parent doesn't love a child, there's nothing anybody can do to change that. You can't force somebody to love.
Social Outcast. that word has a lot of depth to it, but few actually can interpret it. In fact, the majority of the population has only begun to scratch the surface to what it could possibly mean. Frowned upon by adults- because they are a danger to their children and the upbringing of a new generation. Harassed by peers richer than them- Socs is just one word to describe the rich kids who prey on the less fortunate. Preps, jocks, and the ever so popular crowd are all problems greasers, punks, skaters, and the poor kids have to face on a daily basis.
When we hear about greasers, we often think about "the cool kids" This is incorrect ! They aren't considered popular, cool, sharp, whatever you want to call it. They are regarded as the low class, the weird kids, the scum and filth of society. When I think about all my hoody friends and think about how this label is placed on them -and me too as a matter of fact- it makes me boil with anger. Seeing my friends get mocked because they come from the other side of the tracks or because they've worn the same shirt three days in a row proves that being a greaser isn't about being tuff, its a lifestyle that was forced upon them. Only a handful of people realize all the negative aspects, and I mean truly realize everything that comes with being a greaser. So.... all of this being said: Are you a true Greaser????

Woohoo!! Go you! haha :) And thank you! :D
highfives you Finally, someone has spoken the truth! :)
I'm not a Greaser my-self (My family is rich, I go to a private school, I live in London) but my best friend was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma (only until she was 5), but her family were pretty much Greasers (They're know also in London, but they're extremely wealthy now). She had an older brother, who was a Greaser, but he was killed in a rumble when he was 14. They moved a year after that.
R.I.P Johnny (both the character and her brother)
Thank you :) I tried to compose and channel all my thoughts into sort of an essay or something like that. And what an interesting story! Thank you for sharing it. It makes me sad and omg, his name was johnny too?? I'm so sorry......
tht is Ahmazing! i am a real greaser. Ever since my twin brother Joshua got kidnapped last year.
Wow, this was deep and I find it to be true:)
I would be considered a Greaser from all this except the point of the parents.
I would love to show this to some people I know, if you don't mind?
Haha :) I don't mind @ all. Only if you take credit for it, don't let me know. I can't stand it when people take credit for something they didn't do. But I don't think you will since you asked permission, thank you by the way for that :) haha :)
And the same applies to me :) Greaser from all views but the parents........
Thank you! And I would never take credit! and you're welcome:)
Lemme know what they think! Please.. haha :)
All of this is TRUE!!!!
I've come to realize that I'm a 'Greaser'
I come from a bad family life, and I am considered a social outcast in school.
Still, alot of that in there felt like it was talkin' to me :)
I'm really glad ppl can relate to this. You don't know how happy that makes me feel!

well to answer ur closing question, yes i AM a greaser,a low class hood who doesnt have money, who is picked on by the upper classes, and who has to deal with all the hate, but hey, thats what I LOVE about my life.I am NOT saying that since your a higher class, your just a rich jerk who picks on the lower classes, but for some reason, all the rich people around me are just that-fake people who have too much money to care about anyone but themselves.id be a greaser over a selfcentered rich kid anyday.
Amen to that! Quoting the outsiders, 'things are rough all over' I like my life and wouldn't change it for anything
i have yet to read the full outsiders book XD i read like the first chapter but eveyone says its great....anyways PPL be PROUD of what u r no matter wat!im a greaser and proud, and if u r too, then welcome to the club!:P
