Searching for love
I've just been wondering this lately so I decided to write about it. Why exactly we as humans seek love.
Chapter 1
Searching for love
It's everywhere: music, books, television, cinematic features, fairy tales and reality. The thing that everyone searches for. Love. But why? Why do we crave love so bad? What is the rushing feeling we receive from love and why does love captivate us? This mystical force that has no tangibility yet does; by the touch of soft lips and skin. It has no scent yet does; by the fragrance of perfume/cologne. It has no taste but does with a kiss and no sound except for the voice of another. It holds no judgment of race, age, gender or appearance. Love holds only our attention and desperate wanting of it.
Why does someone have "crushes" before they find "the one?" Does a person fall in love multiple times or truly just once?
Everybody listens to music about broken hearts and intercourse, attraction and woe. Why? If we search for love, we shouldn't glorify intercourse if it isn't filled with actual love. And if love is blind then we shouldn't compose music about appearances. The beauty is to the eye of the beholder and only then is that true beauty.
Television shows and movies broadcast the same message over and over again about love yet we can never get enough. We become upset at TV shows that have the two main characters obviously in love ( ex. Bones, House, iCarly, Glee, etc.) and they don't admit their feelings for each other for the longest time. Why do we want the characters together so badly? Simple: because we want them to be happy together, secretly wishing that was us. That we had the same happy ending with someone who loves us unconditionally.
Love has so many different forms: love between family, between friends and of course, the love shared between two people that everyone knows of. When we lose a person we love, the grief it causes us is torture and we become forlorn for the deceased. Love causes pain but it is miraculous at the same time. How does love influence us so strongly?
And scientists may try to explain what this love is in equations and chemicals... but truly... it will never be explained. Love is a mystery that will remain unsolved.
