Liquid Wings

The fire blazed in the kitchen and living room and it was making its way upstairs. A girl screamed as she stood at the top of the stairs, she wanted to get to the front door, but it was too late for that. She ran into her parents room and shut the door. She stuffed a blanket in the gap at the bottom and stood back. Smoke was still pouring into the room and she couldn't breathe. She led down on her stomach and wriggled to the window. She couldn't reach the window without standing up and it was too smoky to stand up, she would choke before she could get the window open.
She could feel the heat underneath her and from behind the door, she panicked and curled into a ball praying. "Please God, if you are there, please let me see my parents again. Please, I just want to see them." She shut her eyes and waited for God to answer her prayer. The door cracked and the flames shot through the door, she could feel the searing heat on her back and it felt like her nightdress was being melted and sticking to her skin.
She led there waiting for the fire to reach her, but it never did. She sucked in a huge breath of fresh air, she started choking, her lungs were filled with smoke and she couldn't breathe properly.
She felt a pair of hands on her face and she opened her eyes. A boy was sat by her head, she looked at him and he smiled at her. She started choking again and wouldn't stop, then she heard the sirens. She tried to sit up but the boy pushed her down gently. He led her on her side, in case she was sick. The sirens were getting closer and the boy got up, she reached her hand out to him and he smiled, he knelt back down and held it. Then she heard the sound of people shouting, she tried to call out and then started choking and her throat was raw.
The boy got up again and whispered something in her ear, "I was never hear, you cannot tell anyone about me. It's best you just forget about me." The girl frowned and her eyes widened at what she saw. The boy had wings. Huge wings, black and shiny. Liquid wings. He shook them and flew up into the night. She was about to call out to him when somebody shouted "There's someone out the back!" She heard running footsteps and suddenly she was surrounded by people.
She could hear them talking but she wasn't really listening, she was too shocked by what she had seen, the boy couldn't have been real, but then how had she got outside? Someone was talking to her, she looked round at them and smiled, it was her mum, "Oh, Lilly, thank God." Lilly smiled even wider, God had listened to her, she was able to see her mum. But where was her dad? She felt herself being lifted onto a stretcher and carried to the ambulance, most of the fire was out and she felt tears sting in her eyes. The ambulance doors shut and an oxygen mask was placed on her face. She found it easier to breathe then, but she wanted to go to sleep, Lilly shut her eyes and drifted off.
