Lola

I listened to mum and dad arguing downstairs and wished they would stop, Madison, my little sister, came in and crawled into bed with me, it always scared her when they fought. Then Rosie started crying, "I'll be right back." Madison nodded and I went out to get Rosie, she was a few months old, I picked her up and carried her back to my room. I was basically her mother, mum hardly took care of her, I hated my parents. Rosie stopped crying, she always did when I held her, she must think I'm her mum, if she thinks anything at all. I sat up in bed and Madison led on my lap, "Lola?"
"Yes?"
Madison started to shake, "Why do they argue?"
I shook my head, "I don't know, just get some sleep." Madison nodded and was asleep quickly. I sat up for hours listening to mum and dad's non-stop arguing, Rosie fell asleep and eventually mum stormed up to bed. She slammed her door and I heard dad follow reluctantly, he went in and mum shouted at him again, he got a blanket and stomped downstairs. I kissed Rosie's head and closed my eyes, but as usual, sleep wouldn't come, I got out of bed and took Rosie back to her room, I led her gently in her bed and put her little blanket over her that I had got for her.
I wanted to go out and forget everything, but I couldn't, I was all Rosie and Madison had, I had to be there for them. But I had no one, it wasn't fair, but I had to live with it. In school I was always on my own, no one wanted to be my friend; they all thought I was too weird. If there was a rumour it was always about me, but that's all they were, rumours.
I went back into my room and sighed, Madison was fast asleep, sprawled across my bed, I kissed her head and crept downstairs. Dad was snoring on the sofa; I opened the front door and shut it quietly although I didn't lock it.
