The Bonds of Fate
As a child I had always loved stories of faeries and mythical creatures and had hoped they were real. Having lived next to a forest my whole life, I always wanted a spark of an adventure so when I saw a shimmering light in the distance through my bedroom window, I had to follow it out of pure curiosity.
Chapter 1
Let's Start from the Beginning
I nearly toppled down the steps with excitement and determination. As I entered
the forest, my heart hammered loudly against my chest. I hesitated at first, and
then I saw that the light was slowly disappearing, along with my nerves, into a
cloak of darkness. My legs started to follow quickly as if by some force and
continued to follow the ball of light. As I made my way through the dense forest, I
started to hear faint music and turned my head slightly. Having lost sight of the
light now, I drifted towards the music which was becoming increasingly loud.
Soon the music was only a few feet away, yet I saw nothing. I looked around,
confused and sure that this was where the music was. A sudden crack of a twig
startled me. I spun around abruptly. “Hello?” my voice cracked as it echoed
throughout the forest.
Silence answered me. I waited a few minutes as the night settled in and the only
sound heard were the crickets. The music had stopped as well. I looked around
and strained my ears to find the music but to no avail. Footsteps, footsteps that
were quickly closing in on me. My breath quickened and my palms became
clammy as I tried to calm myself. I swallowed nervously as my throat tightened.
A cool breeze whipped my dark hair in my face, and I shivered from the sudden
chill. As I pushed my hair out of my face, I looked up. Standing in front of me
was a beautiful man with hair as silver as the moon itself. He was dressed in
magnificent clothes but what really amazed me were his eyes. They were silver
to match his hair, but they were so overpowering I had to look away, but not
before noticing his ears. A soft gasp escaped me as I saw his sharp, pointed
faerie ears. I froze, unable to move my legs from the spot I was in. “You will
come with me,” a silky, melodic voice commanded.
I looked up and saw that the voice came from the man who stood in front of me.
I made a face and scoffed, which I had thought would sound tough but it came
out more like I was choking in fear, which I was. “Why should I follow some
faerie whom I know nothing of and what he might do to me?”
He had an impassive face and said evenly, “If you will not come willingly, then I
will have to take you myself.”
I shuddered slightly as his cold tone and narrowed my eyes in suspicion. Run!
This guy looks like trouble. My inner voice screamed in my head. I looked up at
the faerie again, having made my decision. I willed my legs to move and ran
through the forest to where I hoped was my house. The forest passed in a blur of
black and dark shapes. What was with this guy? And why did he seem so
familiar? I asked myself before I hit the ground with a thud as I looked behind me
to see what had stopped me. A tree root. Typical, I thought to myself and nearly
laughed at the irony. As the footsteps descended towards me and I scrambled
up and started to run again clumsily. I felt a sudden rush of relief as I saw my
houselights in the near distance. Soon I was near the edge of the forest. Out of
the shadows stepped the faerie with a grim expression. “Don’t you remember?”
he asked, arms outstretched while coming close.
“Remember what?” I said frantically and looked at him with wide eyes. My heart
thudded against my chest from running and my nerves. My foot stepped back a
bit as he descended on me. His stunning silver eyes were the last thing I saw
before I blacked out.
