Here is what everyone has been waiting for!
Chapter 1
That Girl
Natalia sat in math while her teacher rattled off information. She couldn't concentrate and focused on everything else, but the task at hand. On her paper was little snippets of Fireflies along with illustrations. "What did he just say, I didn't catch it," it was the boy sitting next to her.
"Sorry," she whispered back with a shrug. He rolled his eyes looking at her paper. She was one of eight girls in a class of about twenty eight, so now doubt it put even less faith in her. That's when there was a knock at the door and a boy wearing a bright green vest walked in.
"Ms. Evans?" The teacher said setting the pink slip on the desk. People stared as she walked over and grabbed it, not believing the words. Family emergency, must come to the front office as soon as possible. Will not return today. The blood drained from her face, her hand started shaking holding the thin piece of paper. She wanted to throw up.
"I need to leave," She stammered at the teacher. He looked at her clearly worried, she wondered if anyone in the class noticed. They did, the boy who sat next to her stared at her as she attempted to put everything away only to drop her notebooks. He handed her them. She thanked him with a smile before fleeing out the door and to her locker.
She saw her brother standing talking with someone at the office. "Nick," she said and ran into his arms. He hugged and ruffled her hair. He was taller than her barely grazing six feet, his hair was about two shades darker and the same green eyes. "Tal, I was wondering where you went," He held her hand left hand as she signed out and they made it to his car.
She attempted to be calm, he even let her play her favorite classical music CD, Debussy, to calm down. It didn't work, because she started tapping her fingers. "Tell me is she..."
"She's awake," She turned and saw her brother smiling. It took every ounce of control not to squeal with excitement and hug him again.
"Katie where's Tal?" he asked her in the hallway coming from photography. She shrugged before speaking.
"Apparently she got a note during math and looked like she was about to puke. I haven't seen her since." She answered and then walked away. He headed to his next class counting down the seconds until three.
"Chill," One of the guys said. He unclenched his fist and sat on the edge of his seat tapping his pencil on the desk. Something had happened with Natasha, he knew that. Nothing else could make her look like that. He hoped it would be good, if something happened the real Natalia would never come out again.
Natalia slumped in her seat drinking coffee from the hospital vending maching. It tasted like tar, but she needed the caffeine. "Chill," Nick said. When he saw her. "Do you want to listen to my IPod?" she shook her head.
"I want to see Tasha," she said, besides she hardly thought Riot by Three Days Grace would help her relax. "Can I see your phone?" He handed it to her and quickly she dialed a number.
Reese didn't pick up after nearly ten rings, she cursed as it went to voicemail. "Hey Reese it's me Tally. I won't be able to practice with you today. I'm at the hospital. Call me when you get this." She said and snapped it shut. Nick laughed.
"Who is he?" he asked.
"Who," she said getting a book out of her bag.
"The guy, I won't be able to practice today," he said imitating her. "What I'm an older brother we're supposed to be annoying and over protective it's in the job description." He ruffled her hair. Nick was almost 20 and attending college; she hadn't seen him a lot lately. Besides Natasha has a better connection with him anyway.
Time passed slowly and their parents finally came saying that the two of them could visit one at a time. "I'll wait, I want to calm down first." She said. Her mom and Nick left leaving her with her dad.
They only let them visit her for fifteen minutes at a time. She was reading a book when she felt someone tap her on the shoulder. Reese. "Hey," he said sitting next to her pulling out his camera.
"What are you doing here?" she asked.
"Looking at pictures, sitting next to my dance partner," she rolled her eyes. "Fine, what happened with her sister?" he asked.
"Why are assumsing somthing happened with her?" He stared at Natalia. "Fine, she woke up," Out of nowhere he hugged her, she pushed away and her dad stared at them. "Here," she said handing him a notebook. "I had an idea, you know when I asked you to do a pirouette you asked if you could do a front walkover?" he nodded. "How about a back walkover?"
"It's been forever. I was able to do one when I was eight. How?"
"I was thinking. It's a little crazy, you know the last time he says 'I'd like to make myself believe planet Earth turns slowly," he nodded. "I was thinking instead of you dipping me I could lean in on you, it does 'when I fall asleep' before that, then back away fast. You could do a back walkover and I could do a either a grande jette or échappé sauté. Since we're far away we could do a powerful ending. Sort of like the lift from Dirty Dancing or the one from that one movie...Step Up, I think? Anyways once I'm in the air we'll have to make it seem slower, to match the song..." He just smiled glad to see her like this.
"Tally!" She looked and saw Nick. That's when her mom came over and looked at the two of them. "You can go in, who do you want to come with you?" She wanted to be alone with her sister.
"Do you want me to go with you?" It was Reese. She nodded and they went to see her.
It was all she could do not to cry when she saw her in the hospital bed. Reese waited outside the room going over pictures in his camera. "Tash?" She said coming in. It was her sister but it didn't look like. Her skin was paler, eyes framed by dark circles, she was too thin and her hair seemed flat.
"Tally?" She said working herself into sitting position and scooting over. She walked over and gave her a hug.
"God, I missed you so much," She said wiping away tears finally she let go and sat next to her. "What do you want to hear?"
"Everything, tell me about Pira, how Jazz and Tony are doing..." Natalia's face sunk. Natasha noticed and grabbed her sisters hand. "What? Tell me, I know that look. Is... Are they alright?" Natalia wiped away more tears and nodded.
"I'm not at the NEDC anymore, Tash. I transferred." She stared at her sister. Ballet equaled life for her. "Don't you remember the day of the accident? How I injured..."
"I don't remember anything of that day. That's why mom and dad didn't bring you and Nick to see me earlier, I didn't remember a thing. Barely my name..." She said and looked at her sister. "Tally?"
"How long have you been awake?"
"Maybe a week, so since your not at the NEDC are you going to public school? Spill," she said gripping the hand tighter.
"Well I injured my PCL, I was on crutches for about a week and a half. The doctors didn't think I'd ever get the flexibilty back to dance again...I snapped I couldn't handle it anymore and took the seemingly easier way out..." Everything just poured out. It was different with her.
"Tell me about Reese!" She said excited. At that point he must of heard his name and walked in. His camera was around his neck and she stared. She did admit he looked good. Lanky and tall with shorter brown hair, lightly tanned skin and brown eyes. "Hey," She said with a nod. "I'm the cute twin, don't worry I'm nothing like Tal, I don't have OCD," he smiled at her.
"Nice to meet you," he said. "Natalia I think the doctors want to see her," he said.
"Wait, take a picture of us first. I want proof that Tal cried,"
"I want a picture of Tash not looking pristine," He laughed and snapped a couple pictures of them sitting on the hospital beds together. The whole time he was smirking. He had that girl back.
"Sorry," she whispered back with a shrug. He rolled his eyes looking at her paper. She was one of eight girls in a class of about twenty eight, so now doubt it put even less faith in her. That's when there was a knock at the door and a boy wearing a bright green vest walked in.
