Chapter 1

Remember the Good Times

I awoke from my slumber in the armored van I slept in for the night. Those creatures kept trying to get in, so I made very little progress sleeping. My weapons lay on top of the shelves I put inside of the van when I had spare time to. I started the van, but it moved as slowly as a snail when I backed up. I wondered why, but remembered the creatures were still there trying to break through. They were covered in blood and their own internal organs, as if a bear or other large creature had mauled them with no mercy. They moaned in pain and looked at me with their soulless eyes and almost mentally spoke to me saying, "End my pain. Please, I can't go on".

I finally had been able to slip out of the crowd, and drove off. I had no idea where I was, but figured I was in the suburban areas with so many houses passing by as I drove. This had roughly been going on for at least 2 weeks, and found very little food and supplies for my weapons. I did however manage to find a large amount of gas for the van and many batteries. So far I've met at least 5 survivors, but unfortunately they had been killed by those flesh eaters. I finally found another Marc's store. But this one was vaguely very small.

I had no other choice though, but to go inside. Before I walked inside, I found a silencer on the ground and put it onto my 9mm handgun and slowly walked in the store. I saw two moaners on my left and killed them both in a quick second. One ran from behind me and I took out my hunting knife. I juked to the right and cut his head enough for it to slide off his rotten body. I took a lot of vegetables and canned foods, and put them into my bag. I then ran to my van only to see it was surrounded by those dead heads.

I shot all 6 of them, then jogged to my van. "This gets easier everyday..." I said to myself. "I just wish it wasn't like this". I drove slowly around the area and found about three army soldiers lying dead on the concrete. I reloaded my pistol before exiting the vehicle. I walked slowly up to the corpses and shot them clear between the eyes. I took all that they had, and ran towards the van when a rifle was put to my head, and I immediately froze as if paralyzed.

The unknown figure behind me told me to say something, and I responded by saying, "Something". She walked in front of me and inspected me very closely as if looking for bites or scratch marks. "My name's Gabby. If you wanna survive you'll stay with me. Don't try anything stupid..." she said as if she was a thug. We went into the van. As she drove, I tried to remember what it was like before all of this ever happened. I remember going off to work, then going home only to see my family dead on the floor with their blood splattered all over the walls and oozing from their lifeless bodies. I didn't want to remember anymore, because every memory wasn't of what is was like before this apocalypse.

Gabby asked me what my name was. I looked at her for a few seconds and finally spoke up and said, "Jason. My name...is Jason". "Well Jason, how's life been for you? Well, no. I mean Hell". "Oh just fine. I've barely eaten in the last 3 days, seen so many corpses Heaven and Hell would be too full for all of them, and all my family and friends are dead. How are you Gabby?" I said sarcastically. "You think you've seen a lot?," she said. I ignored her and looked out the window watching the dead walk by. I almost cried, but stayed strong because you don't cry when you're used to seeing Hell everyday...
