The Circus

CHAPTER 1
“God, I can’t believe there’s going to be a new girl starting here.” I complained to my boyfriend, Daniel.
“Well you’ll have to be the one who has to help her and show her the ropes, Ky” Daniel said to me.
“I know, I know” I said to him, a little exasperated.
“C’mon Kylina. We need to get this last show with Elena on right now” my boss Brad told me.
“I know, I know” I said again.
“Well, hurry up then, Kylina” he told me. Then he went out of my tent and into the hail.
“I can’t believe it’s already autumn and we are already having such bad weather. I want it all to end.” I turned around and looked at Daniel. I started from his feet up to his gorgeous blue eyes and blond hair. “You are so hot, ya know that?” I asked him.
“The only one who’s hot and sexy is you” Daniel told me, a smile playing on his lips. He looked me up and down. He started with my feet with my grey stockings, my silver sparkly sequined skirt to my low cut silver sparkly diamond top, then finally up to my sea-blue eyes and my curly golden hair. All I did was laugh.
“C’mon, Kylie” my friend Elena told me. “It IS my last day, ya know?
“I know, Elena” I answered. Tonight she was wearing a peacock colored outfit to do the acrobatics she always did. But tonight it was going to be special, since it was her last day in the Circus.
“So, are you going to miss me while I’m in LA?” she asked me.
“Maybe. We’re going to LA in a few months Elena” I reminded her.
“Only if that new girl that you’re going to meet can do it in 3 months.”
“I doubt that she’ll be that good. I don’t even want to meet her” I complained to Elena.
“I feel so sorry for you. So what’s your first act tonight?” she asked me.
“I think it’s with the monkeys” I replied
“How ‘bout yours, Daniel?” she asked him.
“Umm, it’s on the trapeze” he replied.
All of a sudden Brad came back in. “C’mon girls and boys, we need to go, NOW!!” he told us. So we all followed after him. Daniel had to carry me over the wet grass because I didn’t have any shoes on, of course. It was hailing when we had to go into the huge circus tent. So we had to run. We got into the tent and Daniel put me back on the ground. “Okay, so I’ll go and introduce who’s going first and announce that Elena will be going to leave the Circus to go to LA.”
So he left to introduce us. Then all of a sudden, Eric came out from the rain. His black hair was shining in the light, slick with the rain. His sky-blue eyes were looking at all of us just standing there. “So who and what’s coming or going up first?” Eric asked us.
“I’m going up first with the Monkeys, to show them what I can really do with them, since its Elena’s last day.” I explained.
“Okay. I’ll miss you, Elena” he told her.
“I’ll miss you too, Eric. A lot.” She told him, fluttering her eyelashes at him, since she likes him. But he never really liked her more than just as a friend.
“Now, here is Kylina with the monkeys for the first act on this really special night, since Elena is leaving us for LA” Brad boomed. Then he came out and said to me “Time to Roll, Kylina. Get out there and show them what you’ve got”
“Where are the monkeys?” I asked.
“They’re waiting for you out there. So go now.” He answered.
So I entered the ring and everybody was clapping and cheering for me. Then, all of a sudden Tika the monkey climbed onto me. “This is Tika everybody” I said to the crowd. “Say hello to everybody, Tika.” Then, Tika waved to everybody. I heard laughs and giggles from the entire crowd. “Okay Tika, go jump through the hoop for me” I asked her. But instead, she jumped up onto my head like we’d practiced, and everybody started to laugh. “Tika, Please jump through the hoop for me” I said again. But she just shook her head and pulled some of my golden hair, but not hard, just like we’d practiced. “Tika, please?” I asked again, and this time she jumped through the hoop for me and grasped onto the pole that was there so she wouldn’t fall. Then i went over to where the pole was and grabbed one of her arms so she was sitting on my arm. “Bring out Mika” Then out crawled Mika, the other girl monkey. “Here is Mika.” I told everybody. Then Mika got onto my other arm. “Say Hello to everybody, Mika” I told her. Then Mika smiled and waved at the crowd. I was just raking my eyes over everybody and my eyes fell on a Dark-brown haired and Sea-Green eyed girl. She looked exactly like that girl that was supposed to be coming in tomorrow. Brad had said that she would be in the crowd tonight, and there she was, right in front. Ugh. Then I kept smiling and finished with Mika and Tika. So I thanked the crowd for watching my first act with the Monkeys and went back stage. “Elena! Where are you?” I yelled, loudly.
“Yeah?” Elena came out from her room.
“Come with me” I told her. So she did. We looked out onto the crowd.
“I didn’t know that the clowns were the 2nd act.” she told me.
“I did. Look there” I pointed.
“Where?” she asked.
“In the front row, right in the middle. The girl with the brown hair and sea-green eyes” I told her, gesturing in the girl’s direction.
‘Yeah. What about her?” she prompted.
“That is Rosalina Lillian Primo” I told her.
“Is it? Oh My God. That really is her. She’s pretty, but not gorgeous like you” She observed.
“I’m quite that’s her.” I replied. “Brad” I called out to him as he passed us.
“Yeah? What are you two girls doing?” he asked.
“Is that Rosalina Primo?” I asked him.
He looked at where I was pointing. “Yes, that is Rosalina” he told us.
“Do I have to be the one who teaches her the ropes?” I asked.
“Yes, you are Kylina” he told me, a little annoyed. Then he left. Elena went back into her room. So I also left.
Bang, Bang, Bang, went my door. I crawled out of bed. God, I was so tired. Who was waking me up at 7:45 in the morning? Bang, Bang, Bang, my door went again. “Who is it?” I yelled from my bedroom.
“It’s me, Brad” Brad called from outside the door.
“Just a minute” I yelled to him. I jumped out of my king-sized bed and looked in my wardrobe for something to wear. I grabbed Skinny black Jeans and a red top that had the word ‘Rock’ on it. Then I took off my nightie and popped them on. Then I went to the door. I took a deep breath, wondering if I was in trouble for something. Then I opened up the door and Brad was just standing there, looking impatient.
“What do you want, Brad?” I asked.
“Get your shoes, makeup, jewellery and some better clothes and let’s go.” he told me.
“Where are we going?” I asked curiously.
“You need to meet Rosalina right now. Every morning you have to get up at 7:30 and be at the circus at 8:00am to 8:00pm. That’s your training time to teach Rosalina the ropes. Twelve hours of training. You’ve got 3 months. Make it worth it. Go get dressed.” he ordered. So I shut my door and ran into my bed room. I grabbed what I had worn the night before and put it on. Then I grabbed mascara, light pink lip-gloss, black eyeliner, smokey grey eye shadow and light pink blush. I put my make-up on really quickly, grabbed jewellery, and put it all on. By the time I was ready, it was 5 to 8. So I quickly grabbed my mobile phone (an IPhone 4 that I had gotten from Daniel for my 19th birthday) and I rang him.
“Hello” Daniel said through the phone.
“Hi, Daniel” I said.
“Hey, Babe. What’s up?” Daniel asked.
“Where are you?” I asked.
“I’m at work. Not the circus though. I’m working at the hotel tonight. Why?”
“Because I have to go to the circus, in say about two minutes to meet Rosalina. How fun. Anyway, I gotta go. See ya.”
“See ya, Sweetheart. I Love you.” He told me.
“I love you too. Bye”
“Bye” then he hung up and I left, too.

I drove to the circus, got out of the car and went to Brad’s room and knocked on his tent.
“Who is it?” he asked.
“It’s me, Kylina” I replied “Let me in, already.”
He came out and we walked to the big tent.
“So, who’s going to fill in for Elena while Rosalina is in training?” I asked. The word Rosalina came out in venom.
“We don’t know yet. Auditions are today for Circus performers that can actually perform” he explained perfectly.
“Is Rosalina here yet?” I asked.
“Yes. She’s somewhere. Tika and Mika are showing her around” he told me.
“WHAT?” I asked, shocked.
He laughed at my expression. “I’m kidding, Kylie. Ashley’s showing her around.” Then all of a sudden, Ashley came out with Rosalina. Tika was on Rosalina’s arm. Then Tiki climbed from Rosalina’s arm and up onto me.
“Hey, Tika, my little Monkey. What’s up?” I asked her.
“This is Rosalina” Ashley told me.
Then I looked at Rosalina and my smile faded from my lips as I looked her up and down. “HI. I’m Rosalina. It’s very nice to finally meet you, Kylina.” she told me, trying to impress me with the fact that she knew my name.
I looked at her again. “Yes, I’m sure it is.” I said with a smile playing on my lips. It would be an evil smile if I had actually smiled at her.
“Please excuse, Kylie. She’s a bit on edge, since she has to teach you the ropes and Elena has left. It’s been hard on her.” he told her. Then all of a sudden, the door opened and Daniel walked in. He came up and kissed me on the top of my head.
“This must be Rosalina.” he said.
“Yes it is, luckily for us.” I told him, my tone dripping with sweet sarcasm. He smiled at me and I smiled back at him. “This is my fiancé, Daniel” I told her.
“It’s very nice to meet you, Daniel” she told him.
“Whatever. I need to get back to work in a couple of minutes, Sweetheart” he told me.
“Then why did you come?” I asked, a little confused now.
“Because I wanted to see if you, Ashley and Eric would like to come for lunch with me this afternoon. If Brad lets you all.” He added, as an after-thought.
“Can we?” I asked Brad.
“Depends what time. If it’s 12:30 to 1:30, yes. If it’s earlier or later then, no” he told all of us.
“What time will you be let off work?” I asked him.
“12:30 to 1:30. So we’ll be able to go together” he told me, with a smile on his perfectly sexy, irresistible lips.
“Can I come?” Rosalina asked in a little voice. “I would really love to get to know all of you.” she explained.
“Nope. Sorry. Only V.I.P’s” I told her.
“She is a V.I.P, Kyla” Ashley told me. “She got it today. Pretty much as soon as she arrived.”
“Oh. Really?” I said a little surprised. “I’m not sure. You’ll have to ask Ashley and Eric.”
“Yeah. She can come.” Ashley said.
“How ‘bout you, Eric?” I asked.
“I suppose.” he answered.
“Looks like you’re coming. How fun.” I said, sarcastically.
“How ‘bout you girls go and work together with the animals, or whatever you girls wanna do?” he told us.
“Okay” Rosalina said a little too happily.
“Come on, Rosalina” I said to her.
“Coming” she replied
“See ya, Kylina.” Daniel said.
“See ya. Love ya.” I said.
“Love you a hundred times more.” he laughed, and then he left. So Rosalina and I went into the practice tent.
“So, what are we going to do?” she asked me.
This is when I felt envy. I wanted her to leave and never come back. I wanted Elena to come back. We’d been friends since 3 year old kinder for heaven’s sake. I would’ve never left her, but she’d up and left me stuck with Rosalina. Such a good friend.
“I don’t know.” I told her. “Eric?” I called out.
Then Eric came in and just looked at me. “Can you please get May out for me?” I asked.
“Yeah, sure.” he replied. “Anyone else?”
“Nope. Oh wait… yes. Can you also get out Dreamer for me?” I asked, while giving him a smile.
“Yep. Just meet us in the ring” he told me. Then he left.
“What are we doing, Kylina?” Rosalina asked.
This girl had no idea how we run or how hard we work for this circus. She was going to get a big shock. I was starting her with the animals first. They wouldn’t even know her, so they would be unpredictable. Well… it was a risk I was willing to take. Dunno ‘bout anyone else though. “We are going to get started on the animals first.” I told her, a sly smile creeping onto my lips.
