The Haunting
Chapter 1
Fire Girl
On Friday August 29, my aunt decided that we should move. I knew why. I had problems in my small hometown. At my school I had somehow managed to cause a fire in cooking class. I knew cooking was something I was not good at, but still, a fire? That was horrible even for me.
I was happy that we were moving, though. I know that normal kids wouldn't want to switch schools and leave all their friends, but I'm not a normal kid. I have no friends and my parents left me. So, yes, I was glad for a fresh start.
"Serra?" Aunt Kate said.
"Huh?" I had zoned out. Again. "Sorry. What did you say?"
"I said, how do you feel about moving?"
"Oh. Shoot. How do I tell her I'm happy? "Umm, well I'm glad that we, er, get a fresh start in a new town." I improvised.
"Oh. That's good because so am I. I didn't want to upset you by saying that."
"Oh, that's okay. I'll be upstairs if you need me." I told her.
"Okay."
My room was sorta small. I had a twin size bed, covered with bedding my favorite color, black. In the corner by the window I desk with my laptop on it and unfinished homework from last year. Yeah, I know unfinished homework from last year is not a good thing. I barely passed my Junior year because of all the unfinished work. And the fire. I just couldn't escape it no matter where I went. Everyone always calls me "Fire Girl". I hate that name.
Anyway, I figured since i had no idea when we were moving, that i should start packing.
"Hey, Aunt Kate? Do we have any boxes?" I shouted.
"Uhh, i don't think so. But at the post office they have a whole bunch for about a dollar. You can take the truck if you want." Kate shouted back.
Great. I hate going out in public in my town. I always see someone from my school and they end up calling me Fire Girl. Anyway, i had to go into town to drop something off at the post office
An hour and a half later, I got home and Kate had everything pretty much boxed up. Yeah, no boxes my butt.
"Aunt Kate, I thought you said we didn't have any boxes." I said.
"Oh, well I found some in the basement while you were out." She said.
"Oh." I knew she knew we had boxes. She did that to get me out of the house. Kate doesn't like when things slow her down, and that's exactly what I would do. I admit it.
"Well, you better get some sleep because we leave tomorrow." She said.
"Oh, okay." Yes! I get to get out of this town tomorrow! "Goodnight Kate."
"Night Serra."
