Chapter 1
On the Train
"LILY POTTER" A voice screamed from downstairs. Lily rolled over and slipped out of bed.
"YOU HAVE THREE MINUTES TO GET DOWN HERE OR I'LL TURN YOU INTO A TOAD!" Lily sighed and walked grogily to her wardrobe where she found a pair of shorts and a thin top. When her mum was this angry you didn't want to mess with her. Suddenly there was stomping up the stairs, Lily sighed once more, dove onto her wand and by the time Ginny exploded through the door she was closing her trunk.
"Sorry mum, I slept in." As she stood there, Ginny's breathing slowly returned to normal.
"Your going to make your brother late Lily. Finish up here and take your trunk downstairs. James gets here with the can in five minutes." She left then, turning to climb up to Albus' room.
It wasn't long before Ginny, Albus and Lily were sitting in the kitchen waiting for James to show up. Albus looked jut as tired as Lily did and she thought he haad gotten the same little speech: "Your going to make your sister late..."
They both yawned as the second silently ticked by on the clock. Lily nibbled on a piece of toast and Albus had a glass of pumpkin juice in his hand.
"He's late." Lily complained.
"He'll be here..." was all she got back. She looked up at the clock, it was already 10:30, they were cutting it really close.
Then just as she was about to give up there was a low rumble coming up the street, when she poked her head out the door she could see James in the driver seat of a white Humma. His grin was ridiculous. The group piled in, trunks and brooms in the boot, Remus and Creevey, the owls, on the laps of Lily and Albus.
It was a mad rush when they arrived at the station, the trunks were dragged onto trolleys and the brooms and owls were stacked ontop of them. Then all four of the Potter's ran down to platform 9 and 10. Without stopping they ran into the partition, one after the other. Lily got through first but she didn't stop to admire the instant magical feel or the shiny sign that read Platform 9 3/4.
As she was rushing up the platform looking for an empty compartment Rose stuck her head out a door. Quickly the girls loaded Lily's things, just in time for her to turn back to her mother and give her a quick hug goodbye. As always Ginny was a bit teary but Lily felt a little better when her Aunt Hermione came and put her arm around her.
The train ride started out peaceful enough, Lily sat with some girls from her year while Rose, Albus and Hugo went to the Prefect compartment. Just as Lily's almost empty stomach began to rumble a small plump lady stuck her head into the room.
"Anything from the trolley dears?" Lily jumped up and followed the woman out into the hall.
It took a couple of seconds for her to realise who was standing beside the trolley, waiting to be served. It was Scorpius, already dressed in his school robes, his captain badge pinned to his chest, his green tie loose around his neck. Once again Lily was shocked by his obvious good looks, had he always been this hot? she wondered.
"What are you looking at Potter?" he asked, She pushed her flaming red hair behind her ears and turned away from him. He stormed off back to his compartment as Lily stocked up on food.
Soon after that she found an empty compartment and changed into her school robes, the red of gryiffindor making her feel at home. Before long she was joined by her brother and cousins. She managed to laugh with them, but her mind was still on Malfoy.
As the sky outside began to darken Lily went out into the hall, needing some space and a little air. She leant againt the wall, staring out the window and rocking with the train. Why couldn't she stop thinking about him? He was a horrible person, his soul as ice-cold as his heart? So why did she worry about anything he did or said, why did she notice him all the time, and most importantly, why did her heart skip every time she saw him?
"Lily?" a familar voice from the darkness called to her. She spun around, whipping her wand out of her pocket, but it was too dark to see anything.
"Lumos." She murmmered pointing her wand into the shadows, still nothing. Perhaps, she thought, she was just hearing him, because she was thinking about him so much.
"Lily, could you come in here please." She was sure she had heard that in her head, he would never speak to her so kindly. Still she turned around and walked into an empty compartment, willing to play out her small spurt of insanity.
But when she had closed the door behind her she saw a shadowed figure standing by the window. The moonlight was just enough to make out his blonde hair.
"M-Malfoy?" She asked, inching towards him.
"Stay there." He barked, she froze. "I can't explain it Potter, if i could then there wouldn't be a problem. I need you to stay away from me."
That's it?" Lily asked in a small voice. "You call me in here to tell me to stay away - WOULD YOU LOOK AT ME!" Scorpius cringed at her tone and slowly turned to face her, his stormy eyes filled with confusion and pain. Lily couldn't tear herself away from them, lost in their blue and grey depths. It was Malfoy who eventually pushed past and left the compartment, leaving Lily there, stunned into stillness.
When the train started to slow she forced herself back out into the hall, walking along until she found Hugo waiting for her.
"There you are." he said as she walked in and sat down.
"Yeah..." was all she could manage.
