Chapter 1
The Break-In
"Anthony, go up in my room and hide," Angela said frantically.
"Why?" Anthony demanded. "I'm thirteen, Ang, I'm not a kid anymore."
"Just do it!"
The window glass shattered, and Angela and Anthony both screamed as an inanimate object landed feet away from them.
"I'm goin'!" said Anthony, and he ran upstairs.
Angela took a deep breath and took off into a run, leaping out of her only safe haven to face the ravenous vampires.
There were at least five of them-maybe six. The only lights that were on was the back porch light, giving off a yellow glow.
"What do you want?" Angela demanded, her arms slightly extended. "What did I ever do to you?"
"Max wasn't supposed to tell a puny human his true identity," said one. A male with dark brown hair and piercing black eyes, she assumed.
"So what, it's a law?"
"'It's a law?' she says," a female taunted. She had wild blonde hair, flowing lightly in the breeze.
"We're really thirsty," said another female-one with chocolate brown skin and black hair dipping past her shoulders. "So if you cooperate, we'll make you and your brother's death quick and easy."
"Over my dead body," said Angela, and the things around her started to lift up, according to her command. "And correction-I'm half mutant."
The male vampire started for her, fangs out, when all of a sudden-
Max jumped down from nowhere in front of Angela, and he pushed the male backwards into the air, sending him flying backwards, and the male crashed into the wooden fence.
Max hissed, his fangs out, and he leaned into a defensive crouch.
"Ooh, Max comes to save the day once again," said the blonde sarcastically. '"What're you gonna do, stab us in the heart? I'm so scared."
"Quit it, Whitney," said Max through his teeth. "I would advise you to leave now or else things are going to get ugly. You're never gonna touch her."
Whitney smiled and stalked towards him with the female and a male with dirty blonde hair.
Angela's eyes flickered up as the brunette male leaped high over them all and landed on her window's ledge.
"Oh no you're not," said Angela as he disappeared into her room. She reached out and the trashcan top zoomed into her awaiting hand. She jumped on it, one of her hands gripping the handle, and she flew upward, like she was riding a surf or a skateboard.
As Angela jumped through her window and off the trash can top, she heard Anthony's muffed breaths and grunts, as if he was suffocating.
Sure enough, the male had Anthony crushed against him in a choke hold.
"Anthony!" said Angela.
"Angela-" Anthony managed in gasps. "Run-!-"
"Let my brother go," Angela demanded, tears blurring her eyesight, but they never shed.
"And if I don't?" said the vampire, smiling-his fangs shown.
Angela's hand tensed up as she reached to the side. She roughly swung her hand forward the same time her bed rose and slashed across the room at him.
He threw Anthony to the side as he dodged it, and some of the wooden parts of her bed scraped off.
Angela reached down and grabbed a steak, and as she yelled, she ran across the wall and slammed down on the vampire. She wrestled and aimed kicks at him, dodging him when he tried to bite her.
Anthony knew that her sister was seconds away from being killed. Already, it looked like she was loosing. There were signs of bruises and blood trickled down from her head to her chin, and her knuckles started to bleed.
He decided to interfere. When the vampire's back was turned, he grabbed another stake and he jumped, shoving the wood straight through the vampire, piercing his heart.
The immortal crashed down onto the floor and his skin lost most of it's color as he rolled over onto his back. He was getting shortness of breath and he tried to hiss at her.
Angela bent down, grabbing the steak again firmly in her hands, and she yanked it back out.
The vampire turned to dust as mangled screams came from the outside. Angela hugged her brother, and seconds after that, Max came through the window.
"Angela, are you alright?" he asked as Anthony released his sister. He noticed that her clothes were dirty from the fight. Angela noticed that Max had a scratch on his face that was now healing before her eyes, getting smaller and smaller.
Angela nodded and Max was at her side in a flash, catching her before she fell to the ground completely. They both sat on the floor, and Anthony got down on his knees as well.
"What...in the world...just happened?" Anthony panted.
Angela and Max exchanged glances. It was time for Anthony to know the real truth. The real honest truth.
Angela looked at Anthony directly in the eye. "Our house has been invaded by vampires."
"Why?" Anthony demanded. "I'm thirteen, Ang, I'm not a kid anymore."
"Just do it!"
