Chapter 1

beginning

"The boy who lived is attending Hogwarts this year." Lucius Malfoy stated at the Death eater meeting. "My son is in his year, perhaps he could-"
My uncle cut him off. "You know Serena will be the one to watch him. Your son is too young and uninformed." Severus said coolly.
Lucius sank back in his seat as everyone turned to look at me.
"I will watch him, gain his trust." I said, my voice shaking slightly.
I was very different to the death eaters, although I praised the dark lord just as much as any, I was not one to favor his bidding.
"It is set then." Uncle Sev said, standing to leave, I followed right behind him, never looking back at the people who expected so much of me.
"What If I cant get near him." I fretted. "Im a third year."
"All years share the same breaks, library times and holidays, you will have plenty of time to speak to him." Sev said, easing some of my worry.
He had raised me since I was younger, I didn't remember my parents, but I was told they gave me up because they didn't want me, Sev said he was good friends with them but lost all respect when they abandoned me.
I respected him for that. I took his last name also.

On September first, I boarded the Hogwarts express and found an empty compartment.
I was hoping no one came to join me, but a boy who was in the same house as me knocked on the glass, I turned to address him, it was Oliver Wood, the Quidditch fanatic.
"Do you mind if I sit here?" He asked in his soft Scottish accent. I shook my head and turned my attention the the window.
"You dont talk much, do you?" Oliver said after a few moments of silence.
"What do you want me to say?" I asked, still looking out the window.
"Well, I dont even know your name and weve been in the same house for two years, Id like to know it for the third." He said. I turned to look at the tall boy, his brown hair and brown eyes matched perfectly, and he had strong features.
"Serena." I answered.
"Nice to officially meet you." He said, grinning.
I sighed softly and looked back out the window, Harry Potter was somewhere on this train and I couldn't actually care less. If it was any other death eater they would probably try to find his compartment.
Not me though.

At the castle I sat with my fellow Gryffindors, Uncle Sev wasn't happy about my sorting, but I was.
Oliver sat next to me, I was used to his presence now, he hadn't left my side since the train, nor had he stopped talking. It was nice really.
The first years all trailed into the hall and waited to be sorted. I spotted Potter immediately, it was hard not to.
"Harry Potter." Mcgonnigal called, confirming it for me. A part of me hoped he would be placed in another house, giving me some ind of an excuse.
"Gryffindor!"
Uncle Sev and I exchanged a look, his was one of excitement, mine was of disappointment, but I masked it with a slight smile.
Harry sat close by, so I made a point to smile right at him when we made eye contact.
Later I would begin the friendship I was instructed to create.
