Chapter 1
Missing You
I love how he spoke, how his eyes shined under the moon, how his hair was so soft...
But they don't understand how I am now, because after I had woken up from the coma, I remembered nothing, not even who I was, I only remembered my world... my world was Matthew Edgil.
Yes, I know ha-ha his last name sounds funny. Well, when they told me who everyone was, I didn't hear his name, not even on the second day of me being awake. Finally I asked; asked the question that would lead me to heartbreak, the question that made me realize that I had no world.
He was dead; I was told that he saved me. But I didn't want to be saved, If he was gone, I had nothing. Not even seeing my six year old sister would make me happy.
I was 17 when it happened, when my world died. We were four-wheeling with some of his friends. We were doing what we always did, riding around the fire and speeding over the hills. We were going up the hills, going around all the big bumps. But no one thought that a little dip in the road would hurt something like the four-wheeler. But somehow it did, we went over it, the wheel got stuck and the four-wheeler flipped.
He turned around fast and held me tight, whispered how much he loved me into my ear, and too soon the handle bars smashed into the back of his head. On that day at that very moment, I died inside. I have three things left of him, my promise ring, a picture, and his grave.
My mom still made me go back to my regular life, back to running, back to cheering, back to softball, and back to Walker High. I was the youngest in my senior class, and was graduating with the highest GPD. In the back of my yearbook was two pages dedicated to Hunter and I. Even though he didn’t go to Walker, most people knew him and loved him. He had his own page in the yearbook to, the title of the page was In Loving Memory of Matthew Clay Edgil.
My mom had told me that I was going to escape Jasper, escape the pain, and the people. For the people who don’t know where Jasper is, it’s one of the smallest towns in Alabama. Blink and you’ll miss it, population: 2,105, people who want to actually live there: 500. I’m one of those 500, I grew up there, my whole family was there, and my one and only was buried there.
But my mom wouldn’t let me stay, told me that the day I graduated she was shipping me off to Michigan, told me that she was making me go to UMich. At least I got to pick my major, Musical Theater, and my back up plan being a Missionary in Ireland.
But when I got to Michigan, I cried myself to sleep in my car. I hadn’t gotten an apartment yet so my car was my place for now. Every time I saw the moon, his blonde hair and blue eyes came into my memory. Then when I closed my eyes, I saw the handlebars of the four-wheeler smash into the back of his head.

The next morning I woke up to a knocking on my car window. I thought I was dreaming because the girl could’ve been a smurf, well she wasn’t blue. But she had blonde hair and was wearing a white sweater like smurfette. Then there was a giant, wearing a grey shirt and jeans.
But I knew it wasn’t a dream. The girl knocked on the window again. I got up and opened the door.
“Yes what exactly do you need?” I said while yawning
“Why are you in our driveway, sleeping in a car, and wearing spongebob pjs?” The girl asked
“Lauren, be nice she’s probably lost.” The giant said
“No, I’m not lost. I didn’t know this was a drive-way, I’m sleeping in my car because I don’t have an apartment, and I’m in beast pj pants cause I was sleeping.” I said in my southern accent
“What’s your name?” The girl asked
“Caden Faught, whats yours?”
“Lauren Lopez and that’s-”
“I’m Jim, and that’s all you need to know.” The giant named Jim answered
“Be nice Jim,” Lauren said “are you from the south?”
“Is it that noticeable, because if it isn’t I’ll sing my ABC’S”
“Jim, I like her can we kidnap her and take her to the manor.”
“N-”
“I promise I won’t pee in the floor, as long as a get food and a place to stay I’ll be good.” I said sarcastically
“See she’ll be good.” Lauren said
“Fine…”
That’s when I realized what a mess I was getting into. Wait take that back, I realized that I was getting into a mess when Jim picked me up and Lauren skipped to the door of a house. Why did I choose this driveway to sleep in?
