Chapter 1

Ash's POV

by: Rapunzle
The year is 2012 and turns out the humans were right- they’re all dead. But since we’re vampires, we’re not. Dead, that is.
I, Ash, kind of feel sorry for Charlotte, my sister, because her beloved Thell died during the apocalypse. But only kind of sorry. Forgive me, Char.
“Where’d all the humans go?” Rashka asked.
“They’re dead. Just like my Thello…” Char looked both very angry and very sad as she said this.
“What about Shelly?!” Rashka exclaimed. Rashel was human, wasn’t she? Tears sprang into Rashka’s eyes.
“Oh, Rashka, don’t be worried,” I said reassuringly to her, “You know she’s probably just fine.”
“Quinn turned her into a vampire.” Char grumbled. Everything and anything seemed to depress her these days. Rashka gasped in relief 1.
“Oh thank goodness!... Well where is she now?”
“She and Circle Daybreak are in L. A. All the humans are vampires now,” Char said, “Well except Blaise’s human. No one like him… except maybe Blaise.” She added.
“I’m going to L.A. right now!” Rashka proclaimed.
“Hey Rashka, you do know what this means right?” Char asked, “Free shopping!” Rashka gasped.
“Then we’ll go to Paris!” Rashka said.
“What about Rashel?” I cut in.
“Oh no! We have to save her! She’s only human. To L.A. then Paris!”
“Rashka, we already explained this, Rashel is a vampire now!” Char exclaimed, “And anyways, I don’t feel like shopping with my Thello gone…”
“We should still get Shelly, even if she is a vampire! You know, she’s probably worried sick about me!”
And with that we all made our way to L.A. As we stepped into the Daybreak Mansion, the first words we heard were Rashel’s.
“Oh. It’s you.”
“Shelly, I was so worried about you!” Rashka gasped, yet again.
“Yup. Missed you too.” Rashel replied in a monotonous tone.
“Shelly, my Thello died!!” Char exclaimed, bursting into tears. Rashel’s eyes widened as she gasped in horror.
“Oh, Char, I’m so sorry!”
Well, I think it’s clear which one Rashel likes better. Either that or she found it heartless to continue in an unchanging tone when her friend’s boyfriend died. I’ll make a note not to die, or else Rashka might use my death as an excuse to become closer friends with Shelly. Rashel seems to care more for people who have dead friends…I think that’s cruel.
“Come on, Rashel, let’s get Poppy and Jez, we’re all going to Paris!” Rashka shouted cheerfully. Rashel hissed at her. “Don’t just ignore the girl whose boyfriend died!” Rashel scolded Rashka.
“But she’s been whining, like, the entire week! It’s annoying! She obviously hasn’t read that Grimm’s Brothers story where the little boy dies and the mom cries so the boy isn’t able to rest peacefully.”
“So Tomoya is allowed to go into a depression and ignore his daughter for five years when Nagisa dies, but I’m not allowed to cry when my boyfriend dies?” Char asked.
“It’s touching when Tomoya cries! And I didn’t write that show. And don’t even make a reference to that because Nagisa comes back to life when we all know Thell isn’t coming back!” Rashka quickly changed her tone from defensive to venomous and I stared at her in shock. Good for Rashka. But obviously, Shelly and Char didn’t agree. Charlotte began sobbing, and Rashel tried to comfort her, glaring at Rashka.
“How could you do that?” Rashel shouted, “You’re no better than Ash!” I smiled proudly. For some reason, Rashka continued the fight, although, she might have just been trying to get the last word.
“It’s not like she’s my friend or anything.” She muttered.
“Still! You are completely and utterly heartless!” Rashel hissed. Charlotte had stopped sobbing but she had this heartbroken expression on her face and a few tears still trickled down her cheeks. Rashka edged closer to me so I put my arm around her waist. For some reason she had a smug smile on her face. Then Rashka blinked and looked around. Her smile disappeared.
“Char, what’s wrong?”
Char glared at her and ran away. Rashel also glared at Rashka and then walked off, looking for Charlotte. Rashka looked up at me innocently, and I shrugged my shoulders at her, signaling that I wasn’t exactly sure what just happened either.
