Alice Weaver moved to NYC from Ohio, in search of a new, exciting life. Turns out her ex-boyfriend lives in the same apartment building as her, and, well, she has quite a ride in the next year:)

Chapter 1

An Unexpected Neighbor

I fumbled with the key to my apartment door, trying not to let the grocery bags fall out of my arms.
I burst into my small home, apartment 183, and dropped my groceries a little too hard on the tiled kitchen floor.
I pulled my hair back in a bun collapsing in a chair. Ever since I moved to New York City from Ohio last week, I've been a mess. I don't have a car, I barely have money... but I will get there.
I live on the eleventh floor, room 27B. My apartment is small, painted a light blue. There are two bedrooms, a kitchen and a small living room with a flat screen.
Trying not to procrastinate, I piled everything into the fridge, singing softly to the small radio I just turned on.
I heard a knock on my door, and I ran towards it, happy for a distraction.
Opening my creaky brown entrance, I saw a tall man with spiky brown hair standing in the hallway. He was built, and had flawless white teeth when he flashed a smile my way.
"Hi, I'm Mason. You are...?"
"Alice." I tried to flash the same, cute smile his way. i felt that it wasn't as good.
I felt embarrassed once I remembered my dark auburn hair was up in a messy bun. I pulled it out shyly, running a hand through my hair.
He squinted at me, seemingly confused, but snapped himself out of it. "Um, I just heard from a neighbor that you moved here. Just brought you a gift basket." He motioned to the ground, where he had placed a large basket filled with little things like lotions and fruit.
I bent over and picked it up, very touched. "Wow, Mason, thanks! You're the first one who's actually came over here."
"Yeah. So, see you round?" He said, shaking my hand.
When he turned to leave, I realized how badly I wanted company.
"Actually... do you want to come in?" I questioned.
He turned, and flashed another one of his wow-i-think-i-might-faint smiles. "Sure."
I stepped aside for him to come in, and he immediately looked around.
"I see you haven't done much yet." He chuckled.
"Yeah, well, I only moved here last week. I haven't done much yet."
I turned to see him looking at me again, the same squinty, confused look.
"Um... something wrong?" I said, a little taken aback.
"Alice?" He said, smiling a little.
"Er..."
"Alice Weaver!" He practically yelled.
"How do you know my last name?" I was a little bit frightened.
"It's me, Mason Fitz!"
"I'm not so sure... um..."
"Alice, remember me? We dated in high school!"
Then it hit me.
"Oh my gosh. It's... is it... really you?"
"Yeah! Wow, this is a coincidence! Remember, I moved to New York in eleventh grade. I moved here lat year, I used to live way farther up." He explained.
But I barely heard anything. It was... Mason.
"You... you..." I stuttered.
"What?"
"You cheated on me. You broke my heart." I felt my heart breaking all over again.
"Aw, Alice, can't you forget about that? It was, like, six years ago."
"Yeah..." I tried to stop overreacting. "Sorry. ha..." I tried to laugh... I failed.
It was awkward. I was standing by the counter, staring down at my thumbs, and I heard him breathing over by the kitchen.
"Um... I have to go back to my apartment. Sorry." I said nothing as he slammed the door behind me.
Out of all the apartment buildings, I chose this one.
The one that had Mason in it.
Mason. The man I have never stopped loving.
