“Samantha Curry?” the nurse called. A young girl and her boyfriend stood up and followed the nurse into the emergency room. She laid down on the uncomfortable hospital bed as the young man sat on the chair beside her.
“Sami, you’ll be okay, I’m really sorry that I-“ he started
“Darren, I know you’re sorry. I’ve forgiven you, It was an accident. Just let it go, please.” She whispered softly. Darren nodded his head and took her hand in his.
“I just want to be sure that my best friend is alright.” Sami smiled at his comment. She and Darren had been best friends since sixth grade. They had played together, sang together, danced together. They even auditioned for A Very Potter Musical together. He had gotten the lead and she had gotten the part of Cho. The doctor rushed in, interrupting her train of thought.
“Hello Samantha. I am Dr. Jayme. Could you tell me what happened?” he asked. Darren rubbed her hand in consolation as she began.
“It was during a rehearsal for a musical. Darren here came over to dance with me, and I ended up whacking my eye on something. I can’t seem to open it, all I see in that eye is black.” She explained. The doctor took notes for a few minutes before answering.
“Miss Curry, you do realize that both of your eyes are open, correct?” he asked.She shook her head before he examined her eye. She opened her mouth to say something, but Darren spoke before her.
“What does this mean?”
“She’s lost sight in her eye. I’m afraid it will be permanent.” He replied with a sigh. Sami stiffened up.
“Permanent?” she asked.
“I’m afraid you won’t be able to participate in this musical. I’m sorry. Unless you can have a part that doesn’t involve dancing, you’ll have to sit out.” He said. This time, Darren stiffened up. “When you’re ready, you can leave.” And the doctor left the room. Sami turned around to face Darren.
“You’ll have to find another Cho.” She said solemnly
“I’m sorry Sami. I know you really wanted the part.” He said. She laughed slightly.
“You get to call someone else perfect, then.”
“Why?”
“Because one, I can no longer be Cho. Two, my eyesight is gone in my left eye!”
“Don’t say that Sami. You are perfect, even more with your eye issue,” he took a deep breath, “ Sami, you are the most beautiful, incredible, totally awesome, supermegafoxyawesomehot and perfect girl I have ever met. Even now, you are perfect. I don’t know how to say this but-“ he stopped as she pressed her lips lightly to his. He sat there shocked as she broke away.
“I do.” She whispered sweetly.
“I love you, Sami.” He pulled her closer and kissed her again. Fireworks exploded, mountains crashed and oceans roared in Darren’s stomach. Sami broke the kiss, and he found himself mystified by her sparkling green eyes.
