Chapter 1

The Beginning.

I looked over at mom.
"What do you mean?"
Mike spoke up for her.
"She means you can stay here as long as you promise to learn some way of keeping yourself safe."
I looked at him, then back to my mother. Mike was my mom's new husband, ever since my dad left us. My mom, Mike, and I had always been constantly moving across the country because Mike works in multiple places...
"I want to stay here."
She sat down next to me.
"I figured you'd say that. So we'll be visiting as often as we can, we'll send you money and I've already got you into a great school."
I smiled.
"alright!"
Mike finished for her.
"There's a Martial Arts dojo here, so we got you in."
I nodded.
"alright! When do I start."
Mom spoke again.
"He said to come in tomorrow."
Mike got their bags and she got up. I stood up too. She hugged me.
"I'm going to miss seeing you every morning."
I hugged her back.
"I know. Just make sure you can visit for Christmas, Thanksgiving, and the Independence Day."
She let me go and headed for the door. She paused and looked back.
"Don't worry. I will try as hard as I can to make it for any holiday..."
She closed the door behind her and I went to go unpack my things. Tomorrow was Saturday and she said I won't start school until next week because of certain reasons. I had a whole week to myself without school. I looked at the clock, 7:00 P.M. I sighed and finished putting my stuff away. I got into my bed and stared at the ceiling. I rook off my glasses and got back up to brush my hair. I looked in the mirror. My black hair always made my blue eyes appear brighter. I noticed an envelope sitting in front of the mirror and I grabbed it. I sat down on the edge of my bed and removed the rubber band from around it and felt something slide off the back. I looked at the Chocolate Bar. I smiled.
German Chocolate. My favorite!
I opened the envelope and read it. It was a letter from my cousin.
[Hey Cousin!
Heard you're in town. You should stop by my house sometime soon! See you around!
-Milton]
I rolled my eyes and set the letter back on the dresser and I looked at the box of contacts my mom had left for me. I had asked her to get me contacts a long time ago. I looked back at the clock. It was getting late. I grabbed my blanket and a pillow. I walked into the common room and put them on the couch. I grabbed the T.V. remote and turned it on. I flipped through the guide, looking for a movie. I found some amazing sounding cop movie and laid down facing the T.V. I watched the movie. After it was over I turned the T.V. off and closed my eyes and fell asleep.

I woke up to the alarm clock beeping. It was noon.
"Ugh. Why did I set the alarm?"
I got up and went to go get dressed. I slipped in my contacts and blinked. i smiled.
"Perfect!"
I walked to the door and slipped on my boots. I buckled the top and grabbed my shoulder bag. I stuck my phone in my pocket and closed the door behind me. I walked down to the mall and looked around.
It should be around here somewhere.
I saw it. I walked in and looked around.
"Hello? Is there anyone here?"
Someone came around from the back, arguing with someone else. They stopped and looked at me.
"Do you know who runs this Dojo?"
Another person came around.
"That would be me."
I smiled. He looked at me.
"Oh you must be that girl who was supposed to show up today."
I laughed.
"That's me."
The other two boys were just watching. He looked at me.
"My name's Rudy. That's Jack and Jerry."
I looked at the three of them.
"My name's Autumn. It's nice to meet you."
They both said hi and another kid came in.
"Hey guys."
I looked over.
"I didn't know you were into Martial Arts."
Milton looked at me.
"Oh... I am."
I laughed.
"How do you two know each other?"
I looked over at Jerry.
"Milton's my cousin."
He corrected me.
"Only because her mother married my uncle. We're not blood related."
I changed the subject.
"There's more people than you guys right?"
Jack looked at me.
"Yeah. most of them are over there though."
He pointed towards a little bakery like shop.
"I can take you over there if you want."
Jerry stepped over to him.
"I was going to do that."
I slowly backed away towards the door.
"that's okay. I'll just go on my own..."
Milton came out with me and we walked over there.
"There's only two other people you need to meet."
"Okay."
We walked in and two people looked at us, Milton brought me over to them.
"Hey guys, this is Autumn, she's going to be joining the Dojo."
The girl smiled.
"My name's Kim."
I smiled.
"Nice to meet you Kim."
I looked at the other kid.
"My name's Eddie. Pleasure to meet you."
I smiled.
"Pleasure's all mine Eddie."
We all headed back over to the Dojo and Rudy looked at me.
"You can just watch for today."
I smiled
"all right."
I took a book out of my bag and Jack looked at me. He wasn't currently sparring.
"What book is that?"
I smiled and held it up.
"Pride and Prejudice. It's one of my favorites."
"You don't seem like the person who reads things like that."
I smiled.
"I don't seem like a lot of things that I am."
He got up when Rudy called him and I opened the book to where I had left off. Page 235. I began to read it. I smiled. I closed the book after reading the last page after about fifteen minutes. I slipped it back into my bag and watched the spar. I smiled.
I think I'm going to enjoy this place
