Song of the Deaf (for AlwaysApartOfMe's picture story contest)
Aria Middleton was a young girl who loved music. She sang all of the time and played the piano like nobody else could. Her voice was just about the most beautiful sound you could ever hear. Only one day she gets in a terrible car accident, permanently removing her ability to hear. If your unable to hear, you can't hear the piano. You can't hear your own voice. You can't hear music...
To never hear music again was Aria Middleton's worst nightmare.
Chapter 1
Before the Accident
"MOOOOOOOOM!!!" I yell down the stairs. I see her poke her head around the banister.
"What?"
"Can I go with Kylie and Maria to that little ice cream place around the block?"
"Will there be parents with you?"
I sighed. "No..."
"You know my policy Aria, no parents, no go."
"Yeah, but--"
"No buts, your only ten."
"Oh come on! Ten isn't that young! I've been alive for a whole ten years."
"Aria, the answer is no, drop it."
"Fine..." I say drooping my head and walk back to my room. I dial Kylie's number.
"Sorry, Kylie I can't come...you know my mom's rule."
"She can come along if it means you can come Aria!"
"Let me ask. MOOOOOOOM!"
"Whaaaat?!"
"CAN I GO WITH THEM IF YOU COME?!"
"SURE!!!"
"I can come!" I squeal into the phone and Kylie does the same. I also hear Maria in the background screaming 'YES YES YES!!!!'
"See ya in a few!"
"MOM MOM MOM MOM MOM!!!" I run down the stairs.
"Whaaat?!"
"I'm ready." I say now standing next to her.
"Oh, okay let me just put these dishes away, you get in the car." I run out the door and hop into the car. After a few minutes my mom comes out and starts the car, she drives me to the ice cream place and I immediately see Kylie and Maria. Rushing towards them, I scream "HEEEEY!!!!!" they do the same. "Oh my gosh it feels like it's been forever!" Kylie says.
"How's your summer been?" Maria asks.
"Great! I've had three piano recitals and one singing competition so far, so I've been really busy."
"Did you win the singing competition?" Kylie asks.
"No, actually it was for people ages thirteen and up so I didn't get to go."
"Aw! That stinks!"
"Yeah, I know, right?"
"Come on guys we can catch up while we eat ice cream!" Maria exclaims. We laugh and get in line for ice cream, talking the whole time. We stay at the ice cream place for about an hour, then I had to leave for a piano recital.
"Call me!" I tell Kylie and Maria.
"We will!" they reply. I get in the car and drive home.
"Well, it looked like you were having fun." my mom said.
"I was, their my best friends, mom, how could I not have fun with them?" she laughed. When we got home I got dressed for my recital. I pulled my long, black hair back in a ponytail and put on a fancy dress that came just below my knees. It was purple with a black stripe on the waist. I put on some lipgloss, then ran downstairs. "I'm ready." I told my mom.
"What about your shoes?" she asked smiling. I looked down at my feet, I had been so excited I forgot to grab shoes. Running back up the stairs, I grabbed a pair of purple flats with a black bow on the toe. Then, I ran back down stairs. "/Now/ I'm ready."
"Good, go get in the car, I'll be right there." I jumped into the car and my mother came rushing out after me. We drove off and arrived at the recital right on time. I performed two pieces by Beethoven, one by Mozart, and one I had written myself. Once I finished, everyone cheered and I left with a large bundle of flowers. On the way out of the building a small flyer caught my eye
SINGERS, PIANISTS, ACTORS, SHOW US YOUR TALENT! COME TO THIS BUILDING AT 9:00PM TOMORROW AND BE JUDGED ON YOUR TALENT! YOU COULD BECOME THE NEXT BIG STAR!
I snatched the flyer off of the wall and waved it in my mom's face. "MOM MOM MOM MOM PLEAAAASE!" I said jumping up and down.
"Sure, why not, as long as it's free."
"YAAAAAAY!!!!!" I skipped all the way to the car, so excited for tomorrow. When we reached home, I got ready for bed and tried to sleep, but I was so excited it was almost impossible. Eventually I fell asleep, dreaming about singing in front of tons of people.
"What?"
"Can I go with Kylie and Maria to that little ice cream place around the block?"
