You may be dead, but you are my life.
This story is about Alice Morgansen. Her life is average, but it is slowly declining. All of her friends are leaving her, and her twin brother, the only person (other than her mom) she was close to, is becoming more and more distant. Pretty soon, she was an out cast everywhere. Even her mom abandoned her. She has no one to talk to, and she tries to cope with (Continued in the story)
Chapter 1
The worst birthday ever, three years in a row.
(Continued from the top) it and uses books to get away. Then when it gets to where she dosn't think it can get any worse, it does. That is where our story begins. (Btw i dont use bad words like other authors so if you see explative just put the word you see fit. And i will substitute heck for the other word.)

"Shut up!" I said, tears running down my face. "Shut up!" They mocked. They were laughing at me. They as in Jamie Collie and her minions. Jamie USED to be my best friend, until that day three years ago. Jamie pinned me to the wall. "Look at wittle Alice! She's crying." Her followers laughed. "Probably 'cuz no one remembered her birthday!" She smirked evilly. "I bet no one remembered, as usual, right?" She said in my ear. "But don't worry, Jamie has a present for you." i turned my head away from her. She pulled her fist back and i felt it connect with the side of my face."Your birthday bruise." She walked away with her followers. "Why me?" i thought before unconsciousness consumed me.
I woke up in the nurses office. The nurse was sniffling, and her eyes were red. Since the nurse was the only person ever decent to me, i felt sorry for her. "Nurse Melinda, whats wrong?" I asked her. She looked at me. She smiled at my concern. "Oh, well today two years ago, my son died. Today he would have been 20. He died on his 18th birthday." I blanched. "Nurse Melinda, today is my 16th birthday." She looked at me with curious eyes. "Really? Odd concidence." She shrugged, but not before i caught a hint of a wide smile. "Am i ok to go?" I asked her. "Yes. But remember, it gets worse before it gets better." She said, and it didnt sound like she was talking about my face.
The rest of the day was filled with stares and laughter. Stares because of my bruise, and laughter for the same reason. The classes droned on and on, as i waited for after school to go to the library. The only place i could escape. When the final bell rang, i sighed, relieved. But when i got to the public library, disaster awaited me. For three weeks they were closed for remodeling. Great. Epic failure of epic proportions. Now i would have to go home earlier than usual, and i hated my life at home. Sighing, i trudged down the walk to my house. I saw a little cat being bullied by some older cats. I tried to help it but ended up with a large scratch on my right arm. I gave the small kitten an apologetic glance. My parents would probably ask me about the scratch, and assume the worst. Then they would pretend they care and send me to some councilor. I hated councilors.(A/N: Is that how you spell it????????) They were so annoying. I shook my head and kept walking. As soon as i walked in the door, sure enough, my mom saw my arm. "Alice! What did you do?" She cried. Instead of being silent like i usually would i said, "I tried to help out a little cat, but the big cats attacked me! Reminds me of someone i know's life!!" I ran up to my room crying. My life had been so stressful lately. I pulled out my notebook and began to write in my story. It calmed me down a bit, going into someone else's life. There was a pounding on my door. "Alice! Time to eat! Get downstairs!" Joseph, my twin brother yelled. "Coming!" I said, dropping everything and opening my door. I ran down the stairs, just so my dad wouldn't yell at me for being "Late to dinner." I took my seat at the table, where my mom had already set out our food. We were having my moms special lasagna. I hated it, but i never let it show. If i did, i didnt even want to think of what might happen. "So Alice, what do you think of my lasagna?" I smiled and swallowed a bite. "Wonderful!" I said. "So, does anyone remember what special day it is?" My dad asked. I didn't get my hopes up. they usually forgot i was my brothers twin. Im lucky i got Joseph a present. i had brought it down stairs with me. My mom smiled. "It's Joseph's birthday of course! My little boy is 16!" She practically gushed over him. "Now, all of us got you presents!" My dad said, eying me meaningfully. I nodded, and he relaxed. "Mine and mom's first." He said and handed Joseph a bag with a card. In the card was one hundred dollars, and a twenty dollar giftcard to the gamestore around the corner. In the bag was a new Ps3. "Now a gift from Alice." I handed him a small wrapped package. He opened it and almost smiled. It was a pair of new earphones, since he kept complaining about his other pair not working. "Alright! That concludes dinner! Alice, clean up will you?" My mom said, leaving me to do the cleaning. As usual. I finished up in five minutes, and then went up to my room. i found a rose on my pillow with a note saying "Happy birthday." I put it in my dresser. It was probably lemon juice in my paper cuts from Joseph. I looked at the time. 8:30. I was exhausted, so i went to sleep, dreading tomorrow. Jamie would probably be even more evil than normal tomorrow, since it was her birthday. She insisted that my birthday present to her was my letting her pick on me. I knew tomorrow would suck.
"ZZZT! ZZZT! ZZZT!" My alarm went off. It was 6am. I got up, quickly got ready, grabbed an apple and a banana and was out the door, walking to school. School didn't start until 8:30, but I didn't want to be in my house in the mornings. My parents insisted i be out of the house before they wake up, which is about 6:30. I leave at 6:20. I walked slowly, taking in the crisp November air. It was November 5th, the day i hated the most in the world, and not just because Jamie was extra evil this day, but because it was the day my world fell apart.
Flashback-three years ago
"Jamie! Happy birthday!" I squealed and hugged her. She smiled at me. "Did ya get me a present?" She asked. "Yep!" i said and handed her a small box tied shut with ribbon. She opened it and smiled. "Yay! A friendship necklace!" She said. "And i have the other half!" I sang smiling at her. Walking into school she saw her boyfriend and went over to hug him. "Hi baby!" She said and smiled widely. He smiled, but the smile was diffrent than usual. It looked a little... Sad. "Hey babe. Listen... We need to talk." He said, looking uneasy. "About what?" Jamie asked. "I...I think we need to see other people." He said looking down at the floor. "But... Why?" Jamie said, tears filling her eyes. "Because I've fallen for another girl." He said. "Who?" She said, suddenly becoming cold and steely. She must have known what came next. "Alice." He said, looking at me. I was furious, and wanted to hit him/yell at him, but Jamie exploded on me before i could do anything. "YOU LITTLE explative! HOW COULD YOU DO THIS TO ME? I THOUGHT WE WERE FRIENDS!!!!" I stood my ground. "I didnt do anything. It is your weasel of a boyfriend who likes me, not the other way around." I said and walked off, before she could see that her words had wounded me. I ran into another hallway, and ran smack into The Boy. It was this boy who's memory would make life slightly more livable, even though i could never remember his name. He had gorgeous red hair, and beautiful brown eyes. "Sorry." I blubbered out through tears. He caught me. "You okay?" The Boy asked, his brown eyes full of concern. "Yea, just a little problem, you probably don't want to hear about it." i said, casting my gaze down. "On the contrary. If any beautiful girl is upset, i want to know the cause. Just so i can make it a little bit better." I blushed and told him everything. "Ah." He said. "Just keep faith. Everything gets worse before it gets better. I must be off. Remember my advice." He said and pecked my cheek. That was the last time in my life that i ever felt beautiful. The rest of the day, everything went haywire. Everyone was either mean to me, avoided me, or made it clear that they hated me. My life became Heck.
End Flashback
I walked into school, keeping an eye out for Jamie. She liked to surprise attack me on this day. For the first time, i thought of what The Boy had said three years ago in relation to what Nurse Melinda had said. Was The Boy her son? Did they know each other? Is that why Nurse Melinda was so nice to me? Because of The Boy? As i was thinking this, i walked up to my locker. When i opened it, there was a yellow and a pink rose in my locker, along with a white lilly. They were my favorite flowers. I smiled a little. I wondered who had put them there. Obviously not Jamie, i never told her about my love of yellow and pink roses and lilly's. It was a fact i liked to keep to myself. I moved the flowers to the back of my locker, and closed it after getting my school supplies. I had only just closed it and walked away when i was surrounded by Jamie's group. "Happy birthday Jamie. I got you something." I said, doing something i had never tried before. After the fight, she gave back the necklace. I had been saving it for when we made up. I handed her the box with her half of the necklace. "I hope you remember it and still like it." I said, walking away from Jamie and her posse. They were stunned. I heard Jamie open it as i walked into my science class. "I'm wearing the other half." I said, knowing my words would carry. i got absolutely no reply. It felt good, knowing i had taken the higher road.
The rest of the day was bully free. I felt proud of myself. I had done well. I don't know how i knew to do it, but i did. And i smiled. When i fully realized i was smiling, i smiled even wider. I walked home with an extra spring in my step, carrying my flowers. Even my parents noticed. I disappeared into my room, as usual, but i wasn't sulky or mopey. My brother followed me in. "What happened?" He asked, not beating around the bushes. "I got flowers and i sorta stood up to Jamie. I feel.. Happy. Whole. Good." I said, plopping down on my bed. He sat next to me. "Seriously? You're.... Happy again?" Joseph said. "For now." I agreed. He crushed me in a hug. "Oh thank goodness. I have my sister back!" Joseph said. I hugged him back. "I missed you." he said. "I missed you too." I replied. Joseph pulled away. "I'm so glad your happy." he said. I chuckled. "Thanks. I'm super tired, and mom will have me working all weekend. I need all the sleep i can get." I said. He nodded. "I'll have a talk with mom and dad about that." Joseph added. "Bye." I said as he walked out. I yawned a few minutes later and got ready for bed. As i walked back into my room, i noticed something very odd. There was a poem on my bed. I picked up the thick, formal paper and read it.
* Alice
Her eyes are a forest green, her skin is lovely and fair; sunrise is the color of the mane that is her hair; her cheeks flush a rosy red, her confidence is unmatched; Any man would be lucky to have her, but she seems to have found one,at last.*
(A/N- An original poem too!)
I stared at the paper. The poem was beautiful. The words almost made me cry. I had a strong feeling, and it reminded me of The Boy. I could almost see him as he wrote this. But he hadn't been seen in years. I knew that i had to call Nurse Melinda, and soon. But it could wait until tomorrow. I fell asleep, the poems words coursing through my head.
"Hey, Alice. Wakey wakey." Joseph said, sticking his head in my room. I got up and looked at the time. "Noon?" I said panicking. "I slept till noon? Mom's going to kill me!" I said, looking down at my sweat pants and tank top. Joseph laughed. "No, she's not. You actually woke up before she thought you were going to. The parents are all better now, and owe you two years of birthday presents." I stared at him, and took my ponytail out. "Seriously? Thats... Awesome!" I said incredulously. Joseph smiled. "I really only woke you up because the nurse from our school came over with a late birthday present for you." He said. I put a shirt on over my tank top and bounded down the stairs. "Nurse Melinda!" i called out with glee. She smiled at me. "Good afternoon Alice." She said, handing me a small box. "This is for you. A, uhm, close friend of mine suggested that i get this for you." I opened it and inside was a small locket, shaped like a rose. Inside was a rose petal from a pink rose. "It's amazing!" I exclamed, hugging her. "Thank you soo much!" Nurse Melinda hugged me back. "Yes, he thought you would." She murmured to herself. It reminded me of my question. "I know this subject is touchy, but what did your son look like?" I asked. Nurse Melinda looked startled for a moment. "Red hair, freckles, and brown eyes. Why?" I almost started to hyperventilate. "He's The Boy. Ohmygoodness! What was his name?" I said, leaning against the wall for support. "Arthur." A deep voice sounded in my ear. His voice. "And i'm glad you made the connection." My eyes widened and i fainted.
"Is she alright?" I heard my mothers voice say worriedly. "Yes, she will be fine. This is just a little new for her. She was overwhelmed. You have been fairly harsh to her in the past, and this act of kindness was very new to her." Nurse Melinda said. My eyelids fluttered open and i saw my whole family looming over me. I sat up, and my mother sighed, relieved. I was sure i was the only one who could see the brown eyed ginger watching me anxiously. "Mommy?" I said, confused for a moment. My mother smiled. "Yes dear, mommy is here." She said and took my hand. I put my other hand up to my forehead. "Can i go to my room? Just for a little while?" I asked, sounding like a seven year old. She nodded. "Of course darling." She said and smoothed my hair. I got up and walked to my room. Before i went up i said one last thing. "Nurse Melinda? I know who he is now. He's very close." after that, i went up to my room, and layed on my bed. "Alright. What's going on Arthur?" I asked, spotting the brown eyed ginger.
