Scarlet Night

The night was dark and Gabriella was waking home from a party well past midnight. The night was darker than ever for the moon was not out tonight and the street lamps did little to light the way back to her apartment. She had stayed longer at the party than expected and she was feeling a more than a little tipsy. The night air was cold, too cold for the month of September and frigid. Gabriella was more than a block or two from her apartment when a dark figure emerged out of the darkness. The figure seemed to just appear out of the night like he was apart of it. Gabriella, slightly stunned by this, stopped walking and looked at the person. He was a tall man. If she had to guess the age, she would have said that he was twenty, about two years older than her. His appearance looked familiar, but she could not place it. He was about 6'1" and he had jet black hair that gave him a old, dark look. He was staring at her, just staring, after recovering from her momentary shock she continued walking only to have the man step in front of her when she was about to walk by. She was again shocked by this but quickly regained her composure and looked him in his eyes. It would have been better if she had not for what she saw in his eyes was nothing less than the empty eyes of a dead person. With movements faster than lightening, he grabbed her by her arms and even before she had a chance to scream, he bit down hard on her neck and she felt the sharp pain that convulsed through her body. She could feel herself losing consciousness, but right before she passed out she could hear the quiet laughter of her attacker, and then the world went black...... TBC
