The Trip (a short story)
Once upon a time there was a girl named Jordan, she had brown wavy hair and emerald green eyes. She was just 12 years old when she traveled to Italy. She may not know this but this experience will change her life.
It was 6’oclock when Jordan woke up on a rainy Monday. She was going to get ready for school when her parents called for her to hurry and get ready. She got out of the shower and dressed in jeans and a Nike t-shirt and quickly put her hair up in a ponytail. She went downstairs to see what her parents wanted to tell her. When she got down there her breakfast was all ready set up on the table for her. There was French toast, eggs, sausage, and milk or juice. She sat down ready to start eating when her parents entered the room. They told her that for spring break they were all going to Italy to see her cousins. She was very excited!
Afterwards, she walked to her best friend’s house to walk with her to school. Her friend’s name was Alexi. She was very pretty. Alexi had tan skin already, straight blonde hair, with sparkling teal eyes. Alexi was the most popular girl in the 7th grade. They both played volleyball and basketball, but Alexi was friends with everyone when Jordan was a little shyer. Jordan knocked on Alexi’s door and her mom answered the door and told her that Alexi will just be a minute. Alexi finally came out wearing jean Capri pants, a light green sparkly volleyball t-shirt, with a pink spring jacket over it. When they saw each other, they hugged, and started towards the school. They talked about everything! Jordan told her that she gets to go to Italy for 5 days during the spring break!
They finally arrived at school and saw that Nathan and Samuel waving at them. Samuel and Alexi were “dating”, when Jordan just liked Nathan, she wasn’t sure if he liked her back. He had a deep tan from when he went to the Bahamas, his blonde hair looked amazing in the sunlight and his green eyes lit up when he smiled. Jordan told Nathan that she had to go to Italy for 5 days, he was happy for her but he hid his disappointment because no one knew he had a secret crush on her.
The bell rang so they hurried off to class! Jordan went off to Algebra with Nathan. Mr. Smith was the best teacher in the whole middle school! He was usually fun but could be strict. Jordan was so distracted on Nathan that she had no idea what Mr. Smith was talking about and that’s when he called on her for a math problem; she instantly knew the answer once she found out the problem. Everyone was impressed.
The second bell rang, and everyone hurried out of the classroom and went to lunch, where Alexi and Jordan sat together with all of their other friends. Jordan had a mouth-watering Caesar salad with a scrumptious cold milk and sweet pineapple.
Jordan had troubles getting her locker open after lunch, and that’s when Nathan came by and asked if she needed help. She couldn’t say the word yes since she was nervous from his gorgeous looks. He opened her locker and smiled, she thanked him and he said you’re welcome. Throughout the day she kept thinking of him, and his perfect lips the curved over is white teeth when he smiled.
The day finally ended and Jordan was just going to start walking home when Nathan caught up with her and asked if she would walk with him. She said yes of course! They talked the whole way until they arrived at Jordan’s house, she was going to open the door, when Nathan grabbed her arm and pulled her to him and asked her if she wanted to go to the Spring Fling Dance on Friday. She accepted the invitation, and he grinned. When she opened the door she couldn’t stop smiling!
On Friday the dance finally arrived! Jordan was getting ready; she was going to wear a yellow halter dress with white leggings underneath. She put her hair in a low sideways ponytail to hang over her shoulders. Then she put on a little bit of lip gloss and put her high heel sandals on. The doorbell ringed and she opened the door; it was Nathan, he was wearing a faded red t-shirt with light blue jeans and tennis shoes. They walked together to the dance.
They finally arrived at the school, they could hear the music as they entered the gym, and it was loud and upbeat. They began to dance when a slow song came on; they looked at each other as if they were embarrassed to be there. Then slowly Nathan put his arms around Jordan’s waist, and she wrapped her arms around his neck and they began to sway. The dance ended and they walked home hand in hand. They stopped in front of Jordan’s house and he moved closer towards her. She could feel his breath on hers. She wanted him to kiss her greatly, when he did her body got shocked with delight. They pulled away at the same time and smiled. She ran upstairs into her room and screamed with joy.
The next day she had to go to Italy so she decided that in the morning she would call Alexi and Nathan and tell them she was leaving. She fell asleep easily that night and had the most splendid dreams.
She woke up in the morning very happy and knowing that she gets to go to Italy today. She hopped into the shower and got ready, she decided since she was going to be on a plane for awhile she needed to be comfortable, so she threw on a pair of sweat pants and a volleyball t-shirt under her school sweatshirt. She called Alexi and Nathan and told them she was about to leave for Italy.
Her family finally arrived at the airport and got their seats and waited patiently for the plane to take off! Her family laughed and joked the whole way until Italy. They finally arrived at Venice at 7 o’clock p.m. They all got into a taxi and headed to their cousins.
Right after they arrived they had supper at this huge table in the dining room. All the rooms in the house were absolutely astonishing! Jordan was sleeping in this bedroom that had marble floors, green floral wallpaper, a cream bed, dark brown dressers, and a huge closet. She even had her very own bathroom! She found out that all of her cousins where all in sports, most of them were in soccer, but one of them was in volleyball like her, that cousin was named Carmen, she had olive skin, with deep brown eyes, and dark brown curly hair. They shared all the same interests and everything!
Jordan finally went to her bedroom and headed towards her computer to see if anyone was online. When she logged on to the instant messenger she saw that Nathan was on! She was very eager to talk to him but she didn’t want to annoy him, so she waited until he said hello, he finally did and they talked about everything for hours! Until Jordan heard a noise and was extremely terrified now, Nathan could tell so he asked her what the matter is. She told him that she just heard a noise and that’s all, but there was more, the noise was so peculiar that she couldn’t figure out what it actually was. At midnight they finally said their goodbyes to each other over the internet and went to bed.
The clock read 8 o’clock when Jordan woke up. She looked outside; it looked like today would be the ideal day. She hopped into the shower and stood under the cool water. After she got out she wrapped a towel around her and she dried her hair. She threw on some dark faded jeans with a bright orange t-shirt with a white blouse over it. She walked out to the garden where her family was eating breakfast. The meal looked delicious!
Today was the day that her mom and her cousins: Carmen, Alexandra, and Bella would go sightseeing and shop at a famous boutique in Malan. They all were exciting even though her cousins have been to all those places a million of times! After everyone was done eating and getting ready, they all headed out. Jordan couldn’t stop thinking about the noise she heard last night and kept having these feelings that she was being followed. She was absolutely afraid! The only comfort she might get would be from Nate but their times are so incredibly different! It’s a good thing it’s the weekend right now or last night he would have been in school.
They finally got done shopping and headed home! Jordan got all these wonderful things like a pair of designer sunglasses, a pair of jeans with gem stones on them, a lacey shirt, and silky pajamas with matching slippers. They were talking very fast and excited when out of nowhere this van started following them. Jordan looked behind the seats and saw the person. He was very creepy. They finally arrived at the house; they were greeted by his uncles and boy cousins. After lunch they all played a huge game of soccer then a game of sand volleyball. Then all of sudden everyone heard a noise! It was the van! The man that Jordan saw came out of it and he looked like he has been in a fire. His face was all burnt or scarred and his smile was crooked, he had this weird look in his eyes as if he was trying to scare everyone that was there. All of the cousins and Jordan went inside, while the parents stood there and asked who he was and what did he want.
At supper time everyone was quiet, it was so very awkward. No one wanted to talk about the odd man that showed up today, and Jordan wanted to know why. She was going to investigate!
When she got done eating, she quickly went up to her room and logged on her computer to see if Nathan would be online! He wasn’t so she decided to go online and see if she can find anything about this abnormal man. That’s when she found it, a website with the county’s most dangerous criminals. His picture was up there on the list, apparently his name was Edward Norris, he was a serial killer and had been since he was in a factory accident. Now Jordan was extremely worried. Why was he following her and her family? What did they ever do to him? What did he actually want? Money? The joy of seeing them suffer? She couldn’t wrap around an actual idea.
She knew she had to be careful! Should she warn the others or did they already know? She was terribly confused from all this. She really needed to talk to Nathan and have some sense talked into her. She was just going to see if he was online yet, when she heard someone knocking on her door. She jumped, was it him? She opened the door slowly and found it was only her mother. She looked worried so Jordan asked what’s wrong, when out of nowhere her mother got shot and was killed she looked around the corner and saw him! How in the world did Edward get in the house? Who else was dead!? She needed to know!
She crept out into the hallway and checked if everyone else was okay. They were so she went back into her room and locked the door, but that’s when someone grabbed her! She let out a yelp for help! The person who grabbed her was Edward! She stayed calm afterwards and asked why he was here. He replied by saying that he needed revenge on her mother. Jordan asked why. He retorted by saying that the factory accident was her fault. Jordan was thinking if that could that be true. She knew that her mother has been in Italy before, so it was possible. Then the only other question was why. He told her the whole story and she felt bad for him.
That’s when all of the sudden he grabbed her and slapped her until she was black and blue! She kicked him and ran away! She went to all of her other family members and told them about that strange man that was at their house earlier in the day. They all hid until they knew it was safe again. Around 3 in the morning they came out of the hiding places and they knew Jordan and her dad had to go since that’s the only way they would be safe again. They bought airplane tickets as soon as they could and headed out! Jordan told Alexi and Nathan that she was coming home early, they asked why. She replied by saying that she just was and for an important reason. They understood immediately. She planned to tell them after she got back.
Jordan and her dad got back to their town at 6 a.m. when once again they saw that same van! Why was he still following them? There had to be more than just getting revenge on her mother. Once they arrived at their home the quickly locked everything that could be an entrance. Jordan scurried off into her room and went online! She heard a tap on her window and looked she saw Edward, and he was angry! What did he want now? Somehow he entered her room and smacked her head and Jordan got unconscious. She kept having these dreams that she needed to find out more about this dude. Was he really who he say he is? Was he really Edward from Italy? Then she had a terrible dream about Nathan and how he was going to die if she didn’t wake up soon!
She woke up with the sun on her face. She looked at her clock and it read 6:30. She hurried to get ready for school so she could talk to Nathan! She dressed in her new pants and her new shirt and headed toward his house. She knocked on his door and to her surprise; he actually answered the door himself! He looked shocked! Nathan asked Jordan what happened to her face. She told him the whole story he seemed so confused on why would anyone do that to her.
They walked to school together once again in hand in hand, just like she had never left. They finally arrived at school, and she could tell everyone was talking about her! When people asked what happened she just simply said I ran into a pole when I was sightseeing. They all believed her and only two people knew the real story. Jordan was very grateful that her and her dad made it home safe! She was sad though since her mother had died.
Nathan and Jordan became undividable after the 7th grade because Nathan was the only one who really understood Jordan’s biggest problem ever in her life. Even Alexi didn’t fully understand, but they were still best friends! Nathan and Jordan ended up marrying each other and have 3 wonderful kids. This terrifying experience for Jordan ended up having pretty good effects, but she still thought of her experience was scary and sad.
