One word: Icecream! Or is that two words? Whatever; when I got my braces, I just ate a lot of icecream. It helps. xD

Eat soft and cold food. That's what I did and smoothies are always nice. Don't chew any gum (I know that you probably don't but I know some people with braces that do that) and just stay as far away from chewy and hard things as possible.

Dont eat solids this week cause your teeth will really hurt. Try pudding, yogurt, milkshakes, and smoothies. For breakfast, have one of those Instant Breakfast drinks if you have any to get some food in you.
The Entire Time You Have Braces: No gum, No chewy candy (Like Starburst, Taffy, etc.) and they say not to eat Popcorn either since its hard to get out. Also brush your teet lots cause if you dont, you will pay...

Try sticking an ice cube bettween your lip and gum when it's not too sore cause that'll put pressure. Try wet and cold cloth over your gums and teeth. You should buy Oragel to numb the pain. And drink smoothies, have ice cream, anything soft. But the problem with that is extreme hot or cold might hurt too. (I have braces. I tell my dentist the pain is really wicked when he tightens them but he says I'm being dramatic. So I just stick my tounge out at him. Joking) =•)

I have braces too.
If it pains you by rubbing against your gums, I suggest using wax (they should give you a tub) where it rubs the most.
If it pains you by aching, I suggest cold foods like icecream. Icecream cools your teeth. If all else fails, resort to painkillers.
