Chapter 1

Three Years Later...

Emilia's POV
I was wiping tears out of my eyes. He looked real scared, and he said worriedly, "Is everything okay? What happened?"
I closed the door and bit my nail. "I'm moving. My dad killed my mom, and we're moving back." I ran towards Ponyboy and hugged him as tight as I could.
I started crying again. "I'm gonna miss you a lot, Ponyboy."
Ponyboy started crying, too. "I'm gonna miss you, too. I've never loved anyone as much as I loved you."
"You're the only person I've ever loved, Ponyboy. You're the only person I'll ever love. I wish I could stay here, with you..."
That day haunted me everyday. For three years, that was all I thought about. All I could think about was Ponyboy. Everyday, I looked at the sunsets, and I knew Ponyboy was too.

I walked down the stairs, early in the morning, and my dad had a bottle of liquor in his hand, and he was spread out across the couch, as usual.
"Hey, dad. Do you know what today is?" I asked him, happily. I tried to seem happy after we had to move, but I was just acting, and I knew it.
He shrugged. "The day you get a watch?"
My heart sank. He doesn't even remember my birthday? "Today's my birthday! I'm finally 17. You forgot my birthday for three years..." I started getting teary, even though this was nothing new. He was like this every year.
"It don't matter-"
"Nothing matters to you! Ever since you killed mom, you've been an alchoholic, and you know it. You never even cared about me..."
He got up from the couch and walked towards me and slapped me across the face, and I went flying into the wall, and it knocked a picture frame on my head. It was a picture of mom...
I grabbed my jacket and ran out the door. I didn't know where I was going, then suddenly I did. I stuffed my hands in my pockets, and I found fifty dollars, which I was going to use to get a bus to Tulsa. I would finally get to see Ponyboy again.

As soon as the bus stopped, I ran out the door onto the street, as fast as I could. I got tired by the time I got to their neighborhood, so I started walking. The lights were on in their house, plus it was about 2 a.m. on a Saturday, so I suppose everyone is there.

Ponyboy's POV
I was playing poker with Sodapop and Two-Bit, and I was winning, as usual. Ever since Emilia left, all I could think about was her. Plus, her birthday was yesterday. I could tell she always watched the sunsets with me, even if she wasn't here.
It was loud in our house, as usual, but it got quiet when there was a soft knock on the door. Usually people just come inside, so I wondered who it could be.
I shrugged. "I'll get it." I got up from the table and went to open the door. I was shocked. It was Emilia.

Emilia's POV
Someone opened the door, and it was Ponyboy. He didn't look too different, his hair was a little shorter and he was more muscular, but not a lot.
I smiled, and when I saw him he made my day. "H-hey, Ponyboy." I didn't really know what to say, when you don't see someone for three years it's like meeting a stranger.
He smiled at me. "Hey, Emilia." He opened the door more and said, "Come on in." I walked inside, and everyone was there.
I looked over at Parry, because she stayed here, while I was alone for three years. She had a ring on her finger, and I was confused. "Parry, did you get married?"
She got very happy. "Yeah, just a few days ago! I'm married to Soda!"
I got disappointed. The least she could have done was invite me. "Why didn't you tell me? You could've invited me."
"How? You weren't in this state, and how would you ever get here?"
"I would figure something out. I haven't seen you in three years, and this is how you treat me on my first day back."

Ponyboy's POV
Her first day back? Is she staying here? I hope so, because I missed her a lot...
"Are you staying here?" I said happily.
She nodded. "Yeah, but I don't have anywhere to stay."
Darry walked in the living room and said, "You can stay here. There's an extra room upstairs."
I was happy that she was staying here, and I'm pretty sure she is, too. I think I'm going to ask her out tomorrow, but I love her so much, and we loved each other when we were only 14. But this is three years later, so hopefully nothing changed between us...

Emilia's POV
"I think I'm gonna go get some sleep. I'm pretty tired after all of what happened yesterday."
Ponyboy looked over at me worried and said, "What happened?"
I didn't want to tell him that my dad has been beating me everyday for the past three years, but last night was the worst he has done it since we moved.
I shrugged. "Nothing. Just the same old things that have been goin' on for three years."
"/Please/ tell me," he begged. I felt bad about it, so I said, "Okay, I'll tell you. Follow me."
I went up into my new room and closed the door. Ponyboy sat on the bed and I just stood there. "My dad hurt me last night, worser than he has before. He hit me, and I went flying into the wall." I showed him the bruise on my cheek. "That's how I got this bruise."
His eyes were wide open, and he said, "Are you okay?"
I nodded. "Yeah, I'm fine. Besides, I'm used to it. I'm gonna get some sleep. I barely have for three years. I'll talk to you in the morning."
Ponyboy kissed my forehead and said softly, "Okay. Goodnight."
"Goodnight." There was a pause for a second, then I said, "I love you."
He turned back to me and smiled. "I love you, too."
Ponyboy walked out the door and closed it softly. I could hear a lot of noise going on down there. But soon, I fell asleep, and I was glad to be back where I belong, in Tulsa...
