Chapter 1
walking to my love and walking the road to a new life
my name is Carmon. Carmon Oaks. Soon to be Holbert. I don't know how this happened. I've known Adam since 4th grade. Yes that long. Since we were 10 years old. Ha! It seems like a fairytale. I'm dressed in a white dress that has lace and a long flowing train. My vail is attached by a small crown. My hair is in a bun. I've got 1 strand loose which is curled. My sister is jumping up and down.
"Erica stop!" I say. She looks at me. Her brown hair flipping side to side as she shakes her head. That's the only difference between us. I have blonde hair. The kind that might turn a little green in water. Erica is wearing a red dress. That's the color I picked for the bridesmaids.
"It's just so sweet; like a fairytale dream coming true." She says. Our mother comes in. She has hair that comes to her shoulder and she's wearing a gold colored dress. She claims I look like I've been ripped out of a magazine and somehow come to life. I'm not going down the isle to "hear comes the bride" to original for me. I'm going down to pachebel's canon in d. It's a great thing to walk down to. Slowly my 3 bridesmaids walk ahead. I'm waiting. I can't see Adam but I'm a little flustered. I've been dreaming about this since like the 7th grade. I hear the music. I walk down. Glancing at all these people standing to see me I see Adam. He's dashing. He smiles as I make my way up to him. The vows start. I'm zoning out. All I hear is
"in sickness an in health...as long as we both shall live." he turns to me.
"I Carmon Oaks take Adam Holbert...with this ring I wed thee..." it's like it's not even happening. Soon we've kissed I pull away. I'm looking at the guy who said my shoes would be cool for guys if they didn't have the Girly stuff. The guy who would try & impress me in 5th grade. Who in 6th grade followed me around the track. In 7th stared at me & flirted. In 8th trying to always be with me. And kissing me. All through high school on & off even though we knew no one else made us feel the same way. College staying close following him. Now married to him. I look up and see love in his eyes. This little boy turned into a man and pulling me along the way. We turn and face the crowd. My mother has tears in her eyes. Happy tears. Erica is trying to get the party started. I turn to him and kiss him again.
"As long as we both shall live."
