The Truth Hurts, Honey (A Revenge Story)
I'm basically writing this just for fun. Comment please! Just don't be too mean since I'm such a softie :) The guy in the picture is Ed Speleers, he looks just like the guy who inspired Cody
Chapter 1
Untouchable
Is it possible for one boy to be perfect? It is. There may only be one on the earth, and I'm proud to say I know him.
Cody McComb. He honestly does seem perfect. No exaggeration. Well, he's perfect to me. He is the kind of guy I wanted to marry when I was younger.
Cody has curly, dark gold hair, tan but not to tan skin, and eyes that changed from dark to light blue on a daily basis. About 5'9. He looks like the guy who played Eragon in Eragon, the dragon movie. He's really athletic, he adores sports. Mostly soccer. He hates football, however, like me.
Cody's a little more in touch with his feminine side than most guys, but isn't that a good thing? Its not like he's a wimp.
He is in show choir and has, well, the voice of an angel. He also just so happens to write songs. Don't ask how I know that. It'll just make me look creepy. It's not my fault I was behind him and he was discussing the song with his girlfriend!
Cody, unlike other guys, seems genuinely nice. He's charming, sweet, kind, and funny.
There's just one problem. He has had a lot of girlfriends. Its really weird, though. He's not a player, the girls just flock him and he accepts it. But I can get over that. Once he realizes that he is absolutely in love with me. Cody will look past my imperfections, like that layer of baby fat, my shyness, and my makeupless face.
He just needs to open his eyes.
"Hey, Melissa!" I glance up to see Johnny's smiling face. "Can I cheat?"
"You could study," I suggest helpfully.
"It just isn't worth it," He shrugs. "Are you sure you can't just slide the paper over this way a little bit during the test?"
"Don't count on it," I say plainly.
I know he's kidding, but the thought of me cheating and getting caught terrifies me! I'm a scaredy cat.
I meet the eyes of my best friend Johnna across the room and mouth, "Good luck." She returns my statement with a thumbs up and a smile. We both suck at Biology.
Ten minutes later, the test was completed, and I was daydreaming about Cody, as always. So what if he has a girlfriend? It's a highschool romance. Besides, I killed her at basketball and cheerleading and grades. Who cares if she prettier and stick thin?
Forget about Kaylee!
Four tedious hours later, I was at home. Lucky for me, its Wednesday.Wednesday is church night. Church night is the night I get to see Cody.
I put on my best jeans and hollister shirt in silence. I straightened my hair in my mirror and examined myself. I'm not that bad-looking.
My hair, long, dark, and brown, is sort of pretty. My light brown eyes aren't noticable, though. My short, muscular frame doesn't attract attention. But overall, I'm not ugly.
"Melissa!" Sierra calls to me.
"Sierra!" I sit down next to her in the youth room.
"You need to transfer to East!" She says immediately. "My best friend needs to go to my school!"
"Or you could come to Eden," I remind her.
"No. Just no."
"You'd love it," My fruitless attempts have been happening since forever. Sierra will never change her mind.
Our banter continues until, finally, the door opens and Cody comes in. Even after a year, I'm still not used to his looks. He is gorgeous. Its hard to handle.
I force myself to look away and focus on Sierra's story about Jake, the guy Sierra is like, in love with. I think he's s jerk.
I nod and try to look sympathetic at her sob story but I'm watching and listening to Cody laugh and talk with Penn, the youth minister.
Cody glances my way and I jerk my head back to Sierra and try to very wrapped up in her story.
"Okay guys, its time to get started!" Penn said loudly. Everyone shut up and settled in their seats. Cody and Blake sit in front of me. I smile to myself and stare at Cody's curly hair, resisting the urge to reach out and rub my fingers through it.
"Well, you're all dismissed! See y'all Sunday!" Penn waves us out of the room.
"I'm going to gym to shoot some," I tell Sierra. "We got out early."
I head to the gym and pick out a basketball. Its pretty aired up. I shoot a few threes. One missed and went bounding to the right. A blonde-haired guy picked it up and threw it back.
"Thanks!" I yelled to Cody across the gym.
"No problem!" He yelled back.
I kept shooting. Someone came up behind me and stole the ball. Guess who it was.
I lurched for it and then instinctively began to play defense.
Cody bent low and dribbled between his legs. "I know you can shoot, but can you play D?"
I smirk and get ready to play. He drives hard left but I block him.
"Whoa," He took a few steps backs and fakes left but drives right and goes for the layup. It's only his height that let him score.
"Two to nothing," Cody smiles.
But he hasn't seen me on offense.
"Not for long," I drive left, putting all my speed into it. I easily beat him and scored.
"You play basketball?" He asks and drives again.
"Sure do," I say as I strip the all from his hands.
I take it out and drive and score again.
"Crap, you're fast," He comments.
"Thank you," I beam.
"Welcome," He says in a way that makes my heart melt.
"Melissa! Mom is here!" My big sister, Maycee, yells. She's married to Penn.
Shoot.
"Guess I'd better go," I toss the ball to Cody. He catched it and brushes the hair out of his eyes.
"Yeah, I should probably be getting home soon, too," He reached out and gave me a hug.
I blush. "Bye, Cody."
"Bye Melissa!" He waves. "Love you!"
"I love you, too!" I tell him and head out the door.
He tells people he loves them all the time. He's very.... affectionate.
Later that night, I lay in bed on my side. I have a perfect view of the moon. I wish Cody would wake up. I wonder if I have ever popped up in his dreams, because he sure does in mine. All of the time.
Wake up, Cody. Please.
