Chapter 1
New Home
I don't think once did Amy and I say one word to each other on the plane flight
from Ontario (Canada) to Florida (U.S.A.). And yes, the flight was long... too
long.
When we got off the plane, we didn't need to find luggage. I barely brought
anything, except my mom and dad's wedding picture, a tooth brush, a hair
brush, eyeliner, a hoodie, and my 10 month old pug, Angel, (I got her 6
months ago for my 16th birthday in March). Everything fit into one carry-on
(school backpack) and a dog cage.
We walked to the airport parking lot where Amy's car has been since 5 o'clock
this morning before she headed on a flight to pick me up... and then we flied
back together. Oh you might have thought, "That's a lot of money down the
drain" but Amy is rich and she usually spends her money wisely. There really
was no need for her to pay for two flights. I could've flied alone.
We left the airport and 5 minutes into the ride, Amy broke the ice, "Avery,
you'll like it here. There's lots of beaches. Do you like the beach?" I shrugged.
The thing about Amy is that she tries too hard to make everyone happy. And
I'm 1 out of 100 that she'll never succeed at making me as happy as I used be
when my mom was alive. No matter how hard she tries...
20 minutes of silence pass and we arrive at my new home in Palm Harbor, Florida.
I get out of Amy's Range Rover, shutting the door behind me. I took a quick
glance at my new home and it's HUGE. It's gotta be like three stories tall! But
the plain look on my face didn't change. I open the back car door and grab my
backpack and dog cage.
Amy shows me around the first story and I stopped her there, "I'm the
adventurous type. If you don't mind, I'd like to look around... by myself." The
last part might of came out wrong. "Uh, Okay. But, first let me show you your
room." She assured me. She led me down the hall to a door painted purple. "I
remembered last year I visited up north, your favorite color was purple. Is purple
okay for you still?" She asked. "Yeah, totally." She seemed relieved, "Good.
Um, I let you put your, uh, stuff away." She said eyeing my small 'luggage'.
She walked across the hall into another room, which I'm guessing is her
bedroom. I open the door to my new bedroom and everything is white (except
for the purple sheets and comforter on the bed) and bright. So bright, it's hard
to even look at it. I notice that the another door connected to my room. I open it
and it's a bathroom.
I throw my backpack on the bed and put Angel's cage on the carpeted floor by
the bed and let her out. I laid a newspaper down on the floor by her cage and a
newspaper in the bathroom. "I'll be back shortly" I said, petting the top of her
soft, furry head and walked out the bedroom door, closing it behind me.
I found an elevator on the east side of the house. I press the "2" button and in,
maximum, 15 seconds pass and I'm on the second floor. I made my way
around the second story 15 minutes and I happened to notice that the stories
was mostly made of unused bedrooms and lounge areas. And rooms with
absolutely nothing in them.
I found the elevator again and pressed the "3" button. I felt my eyes widen as
soon as the elevator doors opened. The first room insight was an arcade room.
And the second, a mini movie theater. The third, a mini McDonald's. I couldn't
help but think,"How is Amy not fat?"
I speed walked my way over to Micky D's, I was starving. I haven't eaten since
breakfast and I'm guessing it's like 4 o'clock or something like that.
I walk into McDonald's and there's even a couple of employees.
"Aye, Hope, Mike! We've got a visitor!" The guy from the behind the counter
yells. The two other employees came out from the small kitchen from the back
of the room. "Oh, I'm not a visitor. I kind of- live here now." I inform the
mistaken employee. "Oh, hooray! We've got a new-be!" The girl employee
exclaims. I'm guessing that's Hope. She looked fairly young. I'd say she's
probably 17? Maybe 18. "Oh, I'm Hope by the way. And this is Mike. And
that's Robbie. And you are?" She introduces herself and the other employees.
"Avery. Avery Campbell." I say. "It's very nice to meet you, Avery." She smiles.
"Yeah, you too." I try to smile but it probably ended up looking like a mess on
my face.
After I ordered my meal, Hope took her break and ate lunch- er, dinner- with
me, then showed me around the rest of the third story.
"Thanks for the, uh, tour." I said. "Oh, no problem." She insisted. "Well, I'm
going to head back to Micky D's so see you later." She said and started
walking the other direction. "Bye." Hmm. She seems nice. Too nice.
I take the elevator back to the first floor. I walk straight for my room when I see
Amy heading this direction. I don't care for small talk. I look behind me and
she's out of my sight. I keep walking, eyes on the floor, then as I look up to
see where I'm going and... bump, stumble, fall... I accidentally ran into one of
Amy's employees. And before I know it, I'm stripping over my feet, and falling
on my tushy. I'm such a klutz. I look up. I was about to say "I'm sorry" but I
was cut off by his incredibly gorgeous looks. He beat me to it. "Oh. Sorry. I did
not see you there. Uh, I'm Jeremy." He said with the most friendliest smile
ever. He held his hand out for me to shake. I tried not to show the least amount
of emotion. "Avery." I said shaking his hand. When are hands touched, it was a
magical feeling that spread throughout my body. "Well, it was very nice
meeting you, but I should get back to the, uh, movie theater."He informed me.
"I'll catch ya later." He assured me and hurried off. I sighed, "Sure."
I continued down the hall to my bedroom. I opened the painted door and Angel
was waiting for me at the end of my bed. "Hey, Angel. Did you miss me?" I
played with her twirly little tail. "Yeah, I missed you too."
I put Angel's food and water bowls in the bathroom by the newspaper. I filled
them and said good night to Angel.
I got under my brand new covers and drifted into a deep sleep.
