Chapter 1
Chapter One A Hot Dude Ruins My Beautiful Life
My friends, Todd, Gabby, Michael and I had just come from Westmont High school and were on our way to home. Everyday, we would walk on the busy street and then we would stop at a certain tree, in which then, we would go our own ways. Today, my friends were goofing off making jokes about our math teacher, and how geeky he was.
“He always blanks out suddenly while doing a lecture,” Gabby said snorting. We all laughed because she was imitating our math teacher’s laugh. After a while, a long silence stretched out in the air.
“Bye,” I whispered. I do have to say I was sort of creeped out by the stillness of the trees and the silent road. I bustled on home. When I reached my house, I quickly shut the door and ran to my room. I realized it was only dark in my room because I had forgotten to open my blinds this morning. I twirled it open. My room was facing the front of the house so when I usually open the window I would see the road and the sun beating down on the concrete, and birds flitting across the yard. Today I saw the road, no sun, and a hooded figure standing across the road staring at me. The sight caught my breath. I couldn’t see the person’s face. I closed my eyes in panic and opened them again, the figure was gone, and the sun returned. I paled and sat on my bed to think for a while. Maybe its because of the cold, I am having a headache from the harsh winter changes. I pulled out my homework, and soon forgot about the hooded figure.
The next day, in math I told my friends about the stalker.
“Oh my God,” Gabby’s eyes widened, “Maybe you are having hallucinations. I had an uncle or something that started having hallucinations, a couple days later he died.” Gabby had brown eyes and black brownish hair. She didn’t really look like she was Japanese.
“ Ok, I’m not going to die! Not on my watch, I won’t. Isn’t it creepy? I mean I just looked out, and there he was! Watching me behind his cloak!” I exclaimed
“Speaking of that, I was thinking of writing a horror story this October for English, can I model them on your hallucinations?” Michael asked.
“No, I don’t want a billion people to come to my house going, ‘Are you okay? You are not taking drugs are you?’. So, again, NO.” I snapped at him. He shifted away from me as if I was taking drugs. I rolled my eyes.
“No body knows about you personal information right?” Todd said.
“Nobody I know of.” I replied.
“Then why would somebody stalk you?” That was the only question I couldn’t answer.
“Michael’s right,” Todd said softly, “Nobody would stalk you unless that person knows any of your personal information, and you two do not seem the kind that would post your house address on the web for everyone to see.”
“I guess then, the way you say it, we don’t really post personal information on the web.” Gabby said cheerfully.
We all stared at her. Even though Todd said that she was not the kind, we all knew she was. The only thing we think she wants is to let people know she was available and to let them know that they can call her anytime they want. Of course, Gabby was smart in academics, and sometimes doesn’t use her head.
At lunch, I was on my way to the cafeteria. I was all alone and was shoving papers in my bag. A bunch of my science papers flew out of my hand. I bent down and picked them up. I looked up and saw two girls, one with blondish hair, and one with brown. Both had light freckles on their noses. Their ears were pointed and had blue earrings. Wearing green hats, their heads turned towards me. They smiled at me and their mouths began moving. I took a step back as they advanced toward me. I fell over on my back and when I looked up, I saw a teacher locking her door.
“You shouldn’t be in the hallways now, its lunch for B.”
I swallowed and nodded, and then I got up and continued to walk down the hallway.
I didn’t feel like eating, so I went to the bathroom and stared at the mirror. I sighed. I’m too young to go crazy and get tossed into the loony bin…
It was Friday and we were walking towards the tree laughing about the time when while running the mile Todd tripped me on purpose. I didn’t like talking about it, because after he tripped me, I got run over by mob of kids trying to catch up to Jason, the popular kid. We reached the tree, and once more, the long silence dawned on us.
Before I could say goodbye, we were all thrown forward. I heard Gabby scream and another person scream, me maybe? I managed to glance back as I fell and saw a black blob flying towards us.
My face met dirt, and dirt rejoiced by turning into mud. I spit out the mud and felt like vomiting. I stood up my fists ready to fight the person or whatever pushed us. I glanced around trying to see if any cars were going to run us over only to see that we were no longer on the road, actually nowhere near the road. I couldn’t even see the road! However, I did see Gabby’s face 3 centimeters away from the cloaked dude.
“Hey!” Gabby yelled, “What was that for! This outfit cost a blank more than that stupid cloak of yours!” Well, she was right, the P.E uniforms were very expensive, or maybe she was talking about her Jimmy Chos… Before I could yell shut up to her before Cloaked Dude got angry, I couldn’t speak or move. I think all of us couldn’t speak or move.
The figure pulled down his hood. We gasped. Well Gabby and I gasped. I have to say, all I saw was a person no, a god. His eyes were the brightest blue I know, and he had black mussed up hair that was short, not long.
“Hello.” Cloak dude said, “My name is Evan.”
“Hello, I hate you too.” Gabby said breaking from the paralyzing grip. Sadly, her brother’s name is Evan. Evan sighed. I feel you dude, I thought sadly.
“Anyway, we need your help here.” He said.
“Erm, I’m very sorry but, we don’t know you. And unless you need help with math, I’ll be glad to help.” I said sourly. I was a tutor in math for kids who are failing. That’s where I met Jerk, a person who doesn’t know how to speak correctly. He soon learned very bad words from the school bully, and he tries to stop, believe me, but some of the things he says are very rude. Does every bad thing happen to me?
“I’m quite good in math sorry,” he replied then changing the subject, “As you know you live in Light Zone and-“
“What Light Zone? I never knew anything about the Light Zone.” Todd said confused.
“This is why I don’t don’t enjoy erasing their minds.” Evan said angrily, “Right now, you are in The Twilight Ring. The Light Zone is the other side of, or you can say the opposite of this side. Blah blah blah, you know the details. Unfortunately, something is pushing the sides closer, and now the two worlds will actually collide. Everybody knows that light and dark can’t mix.
I looked around; it didn’t really look like twilight. I opened my mouth. Evan waved his hand and I couldn’t get a word out of my mouth.
“Before any of you babble again, I’d like to finish.” Evan said impatiently.
“If the two worlds collide, there won’t really be any world if you know what I’m talking about.” We didn’t know what he was talking about.
“We need your help to know who is behind this.” He waved his hand, “Speak.”
I felt like I could breathe again.
“Why do you need us to know who you are dealing with,” Michael challenged, “It’s not like you we know anything about this world.”
“Yes,” Evan said nervously, “You are trained wizards, and you will defeat them.”
“Wait, we aren’t anything close to wizards.” I said nervously.
“Yes, yes you are!” Evan said pushing us.
“We have never been to this world and we do not know how to do magic!” I yelled loudly.
“I do!” Michael said he snapped his finger and a little spark appeared, “Uwah!” Evan rolled his eyes at the sight of earth magic.
“So you are saying, I didn’t choose the right people? I brought over here, a couple of mortals that will die before a year?”
“What about a year?” Todd said.
“I. Am. Going. To. Get. Fired.” Evan said hoarsely.
“Excuse me, but I asked a question.” Todd said impatiently. Evan looked depressed.
“I’m sorry Marrielle, Todd, Michael, and you.” Evan said narrowing his eyes at Gabby, “But it takes a whole year for me to create another portal. You can’t go home. I have erased your families’ memories, they will never remember you.
“Um…” I said. What did he just say? I decided not to ask, or else Gabby and I will have a break down, maybe even the guys will too.
“You must try to do the quest though. Please, our world depends on you.” Actually, the world depended on him, but he just failed.
We glanced at each other.
“What will happen if we don’t try?” Todd said
“You can’t survive here.” Evan said, “You will die at the hands of Zathar.” Zathar? Sure sounds a lot like Darth Vader…Combined…
We al blinked.
“I’m not dying at this rotting place,” Gabby said, “I’d rather try.”
We all nodded. Even though Gabby probably didn’t use her head, we did, and this was the best choice we can get out of this.
“Wait, why can’t another wizard make another portal?” I asked.
“Only the wizard who made the portal can transport the people back. I am the only wizard in the Twilight that can create portals now.” We all new the answer to our life changing decision.
“So you’re saying that we need to find this person behind this and destroy him or her?” Michael asked. He nodded solemnly. So, we had one year, to kill a dude that we don’t even know, and fight minions along the way, but, we don’t know how to fight.
As if he read my mind he said, “I’ll give you armor and weapons, just don’t try to kill anyone or anything that’s innocent. Okay?” He his very stupid if he’s talking to Gabby, maybe he shouldn’t be innocent anymore…
“He always blanks out suddenly while doing a lecture,” Gabby said snorting. We all laughed because she was imitating our math teacher’s laugh. After a while, a long silence stretched out in the air.
