Chapter 1

Dream

by: Siren__
The dream whirled, quickly changing from a peaceful fantasy, to death, blood. War.

Ayasha watched from her dream perspective. She floated high in the air, wings beating, though it was not nessecary. She watched the scene closey, knowing this dream had some importance, whether it be tomorrow or a century from now, when she used the knowledge of the dream.

Millions fought below her, blood bathing the once green land. Ayasha began to lose her focus; man always fought. Why should now be different? Even a century ago, when Ayasha herself was human, they fought.

Ayasha jerked back her focus as she swooped down, close enough to touch the heads of the fighting. Only when a warrior jumped high enough to fly into Ayasha, had she been solid, made her realise these warriors weren't human.

Focusing on the faces beneath her paws, she saw the ghostly shadows where wings used to reside, millions of years ago. She caught a glimpse of a warriors face, which confirmed her thoughts. His face was entirely too beautiful to be human, even when he snarled, revealing pointed teeth.

The Fae fought tirelessly. Swords cut through the air with suprising ease. Blood occasionally spurted into the air, drenching the warriors beneath. When one warrior fell, two stopped, checked their fallen comrade, and began to fight with the ferocity of four warriors.

Even then, Ayasha saw they were falling prey to the wizards that hurled balls of sorcery. That is what this dream is about, she realised. She was supposed to asist the warriors. She looked around, memorising the scenery, for she was sure she would have to find her way here.

Ayasha suddenly flew forward, lowering into the midst of soldiers. They ignored her, even fought with their bodies half inside Ayasha. The sea of warriors parted for a moment, revealing a tall man, fighting valiantly.

The warrior turned, glancing at Ayasha, and froze for just a moment. But even tht moment was enough for the ball of magic to sear through his torso.

Ayasha jolted. She leapt forward, as if she could help the man. He looked at the hole in his guts, and fell to his kness. He reached out to Ayasha before he thudded to the floor, dead.

The warriors froze. They had all felt the death of the man. Silence insued. The screams of the wounded or dying died off. Seeing their chance, the wizards threw ball after ball of magic, killing and maiming.

The scream of one hit by a mage ball jolted everyone into action. Grabbing the injured, the Fae fled, taking the man with them. Ayasha wanted to follow, but the dream had other things in mind.

Time fast-forwarded, racing by in a blur of images. The dream paused several times, allowing Ayasha to see the horrors that had unfolded. The sights nearly made her weep.

Forests were burning, animals much like herself fleeing for their lives. What creature wasn't fast enough was caught, slaughtered, and eaten by the mages. Some animals even served as target practice.

The Fae who had so protected and loved the forests and animals of the Fabled Land, were gone. Still alive, still in the land, but they did not move to protect their precious animals. Ayasha could understand why. Less than a thousand Fae were left, under a hundred women left to continue the species. Even then, most women were barren, or bore male children. The Fae were dying.

Straightening her ghostly shoulders, Ayasha accepted the burden. She had to save the Fae, even at the cost of her own life.

The dream whirled, taking her back to the battle that started it all. Ayasha looked around, memorising the features. The dream flew to the east, over a forest. Ayasha focused and memorised what she could.

She plummented into the forest, where, curled into a ball, a wolf slept. Ice formations adorned it's fur and wings tucked tightly against it's back. A lighter white circle with a slash to the middle of the circle marked it's head. Black fur outlined the rounded ears.

Ayasha flew lower, merging herself with the wolf. She felt a moment of dizziness, as her conciousness filled up the otherwise empty wolf. Her vision blurred, before coming back tenfold, revealing every little creature of the forest.

Hesitantly, she raised her head. Unused to the weight, as Ayasha was normally weightless, her head wobbled before stablizing. She looked around, disappointed to find that, while still excellent, her vision wasn't like when she was a spirit.

Deciding to clamber to her feet, Ayasha pulled on her muscles, pulling up both back feet, bracing them as she brought up her front feet. Unstable, unused to her legs, she stumbled, nearly falling over.

She quickly got used to standing, and walking. Flying, and running, was another matter entirely. But before she could cotemplate on how to get to the battlefield, she had to do something. After all, this body had been resting for over a decade, and she was hungry.
